There has been a surge in the urban mosquito population due to the introduction of the Asian tiger mosquito (ATM). The ATM displays a strong preference for breeding in small, manmade containers such as flower pots, trash cans, tires, buckets, etc. It does not breed in wetlands or waterways. Staff from the Department of Agriculture can assist residents by identifying actual ATM breeding containers, but it is the resident’s responsibility to use this information to locate and eliminate additional breeding sites on his/her property. Individuals, communities and businesses are strongly urged to take a proactive stance in the fight against the Asian tiger mosquito.

OBJECTION TO ADULT MOSQUITO CONTROLIf you have an objection to adult mosquito control at your property, you may request for an exemption from the adult mosquito control services by requesting an exemption from the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Your request for exemption WILL NOT be processed unless ALL of the information requested has been supplied. You have the right to inspect, amend, or correct this information. Under State Government, Article, 10-617, Annotated Code of Maryland, this information may be generally available for public inspection. This information is not routinely shared with state, federal or local government agencies.
