Circular brick stitch is a fun and exciting beadweaving technique. You can come up with different designs and incorporate it with other beadweaving techniques. In this tutorial, we will teach you the basics of the circular brick stitch using a ring or earring frame, weaving back and forth while you make a pair of earrings. The tutorial will also give you tips on how to come down a step/bead, or 2 steps down, or more to create a variation of the circular brick stitch. The tutorial is suited for intermediate to advance level, but confident beadweavers will also be able to follow through the pictoral step by step instructions. In case you don’t have a similar earring hoops used to create the Brick Stitch Earring, you will find a simple tutorial at Appendix 1.

Materials required

Tools Needed

· 4 different colors of seed beads

· 2 ear wires

· Beading thread

· 2 circular earring hoop/frame with a bail

· Scissors

· Flat nose pliers (optional)

· Beading needle

Cut at least an arm span to 75 inches of thread. Tie a knot twice onto the earring hoop, leaving about 6 inches tail.

1st layer of brick stitches

Slide in 2 seed beads.

Bring your thread under and around the earring hoop like shown in arrow, wrapping the earring hoop.

Pull the thread and as you pull insert the thread back thru the 2nd seed bead shown in arrow.

Pull your thread. You’ll have the seed beads lying on top of the earring hoop.

Slide in 1 seed bead then bring your thread under and around the earring hoop, like you did in Step 3, wrapping the earring hoop and going back thru the same seed bead you just added.

Pull your thread.

Repeat Step 6 until you reach the other side of the earring hoop.

2nd Layer of brick stitches

Flip your earring so that you have the needle on your right side again then slide in 2 seed beads

Bring your thread under the bridge or thread, shown in arrow, connecting the 2nd & 3rd seed beads.

Continue to insert the thread into the 2nd seed bead you just added shown arrow.

Pull the thread and you’ll have 2 seed beads lying on top of the 1st layer of seed beads Slide in 1 seed bead.

Then insert the thread under the bridge or thread connecting the 3rd & 4th seed beads. Then continuously insert the thread into the same seed bead you just added and pull the thread.

Repeat Steps 12 & 13 until you reach the other side of the earring hoop and done with your 2nd layer of brick stitches.

3rd Layer of brick stitches

Repeat Steps 9 to 14 and create your 3rd layer of brick stitches.

Stepping 2 seed beads down

We are now stepping 2 seed beads down to create the 4th layer.

Coming out of the very last yellow seed bead shown in white arrow, going inward the earring hoop insert the thread back thru the next yellow seed bead shown in black arrow.

Still going inward the earring hoop, continue to insert the thread into the 3rd white seed bead from the 2nd layer.

This time going outward the earring hoop, insert the thread into the 2nd white seed bead from the 2nd layer.

Lastly, insert the thread into the 2nd yellow seed bead then pull the thread.

Note:

If you want to come down a step, or 2 steps down, or more, your thread should come out the corresponding number of steps and beads.

Your thread should be coming out of the 2nd yellow seed bead, in preparation for the 4th layer.

4th Layer of brick stitches

Repeat Steps 9 to 14.

5th Layer of brick stitches

Repeat Steps 16 to 19 of stepping 2 seed beads down then repeat Steps 9 to 14 to weave the 5th layer of brick stitches.

6th Layer of brick stitches

Repeat Steps 16 to 19 of stepping 2 seed beads down then repeat Steps 9 to 14 to weave the 6th layer of brick stitches.

7th Layer of brick stitches

For the final layer, repeat Steps 16 to 19 of stepping 2 seed beads down then repeat Steps 9 to 14 to weave the 7th layer of brick stitches.

Weaving the picot edges

Coming out of the very last yellow seed bead, slide in 3 white seed beads and insert the thread back thru the next yellow seed bead.

Pull the thread and you should have a picot edge.

Continue to insert the thread into the next yellow seed bead.

Slide in 3 white seed beads and insert the thread into the next yellow seed bead.

Pull the thread. Repeat Step 26 & 27 until you reach the very last yellow seed bead.

To finish off the thread, go back thru the seed beads, tie a knot and go back thru again several seed beads. Make your final knot and then cut off excess thread. Do the same for the tail end you left at the start then attach your ear wire.

You have completed the Circular Brick Stitch Earrings. Hope you like it!
