Espresso – Maths 2 – Problem solving: Town Trail

This week for your maths you are going to use and apply your knowledge of a wide range of mathematical concepts through completing some problem solving activities.

There are two levels of activity and if you wish you can print off record sheets for levels 1 and/or 2 to help keep track of the activities that you do each day.

Aim to complete a section a day if you can.

Punctuating bullet points

In preparation for some note-taking activities this week, complete the following activities around using and punctuating bullet points:

Espresso – English 2 – Grammar and Punctuation – Punctuating a bullet point list

Watch the video, complete the 2 quizzes and the interactive activity.

History – historical figure – William Shakespeare www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/history/general-history/shakespeare-facts/Use the above website and the ones in the reading link above, to research all that you can about William Shakespeare, his life and his plays. Any further information that you need can be searched for using children’s search enginesUse what you found out about bullet points in English earlier today to help write notes for the information that you find. This information will then help you with your English work during the week.

P.E – Danceprimaryschooldance.co.uk/2015/06/22/fun-rock-n-roll-dance-video/The video above will teach you a line dance known as the Electric Slide. Your whole family could join in with learning the dance moves which fit perfectly with ‘I Love to Boogie’ by T-Rex. Remember to film your performance and share it with us on the school Twitter feed!

Outdoor LearningConstruct a landscape This is a geography-based activity. I would like you to construct a ‘mini’ landscape for a woodland creature outside with these features:

Use whatever resources are to hand but remember what each feature ‘should’ look like.

Continue with another section.

Don’t forget to tick the activities that you complete off on your record sheet.

What is a biography?Read the biography about Roald Dahl below to help familiarise yourself with what a biography is, the way the information is set out and what should be included.Answer the questions using the text to help you.Q1-6 are easier and Q7-10 are more of a challenge.

R.E – Good actionsDraw a picture of a large tree, showing its roots, trunk, branches, and carrying fruits as well. Write onto the fruits the words that you would choose to represent good actions e.g. kindness, friendship, patience. Think about the things that lead to these good actions, and write some of these things onto the branches, the trunk and the roots of your tree.

French – Colourswww.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/french-ks2-painting-together/z72gd6fComplete the French colour activities.Alternatively you could draw your own picture of where you live or your village. Colour it and add French colour labels for the different colours that you have used.

You’re the BossWe can’t choose what happens to us, or even how we feel, but we can choose how to act and behave and we can learn to manage the uncomfortable feelings that often take over.

Using what you have learnt in PSHCE and Wellbeing so far create a Feelings Diary for a week. You can record how you feel about something each day and draw or write about the situation you were in when you felt this affected your actions and what strategies you used to manage your emotions.

Remember that all feelings are valid, there is no right or wrong way to feel.

Don’t forget to tick the activities that you complete off on your record sheet.

If you are doing Level 1 and would like more of a challenge, have a go at some of the level 2 activities.

Planning a biography

Using the ‘features of a biography’ checklist below, plan the content for a biography about William Shakespeare using your notes from Monday.

You are not starting to write the biography today but your plan needs to include headings and notes of information you plan to include for sections such as: introduction, early life, achievements, later life, influence on our lives today, closing paragraph, key words etc.

We have completed lots of writing planning sheets in school so you should have a good idea of how yours could look but there is one below if you need it.

Art – Natural artFollowing on from your flower art from last week, choose something natural to draw. It could be something from your garden, something you have found on a walk or from a photograph or picture. Use colours or shading to show light, shade and tone.

Geography – Rivers of North and South AmericaEspresso – Geography 2 – Rivers – Factfiles – Rivers of the world: North and South America

Read through the factfile above to find out about some of the main rivers in the continents of North and South America.

On the sheet below, mark on the locations of the 5 rivers and label them. Around the outside of the map, add some information about each river. Use children’s search engines to find and record the length of each river.

Outdoor Learning Personification – As the seasons are now changing, I would like you to remind yourself of the work we did on writing from the Point of view of a leaf/twig/tree etc back in the Autumn Term. I would like you to choose something in nature that is just starting to come to life (blossom, flowers, insects, leaves re-growing etc.) I would like you to write a short, descriptive piece from their perspective. You have done this before so this should be a ‘breeze’

Don’t forget to tick the activities that you complete off on your record sheet.

Writing a biography

Using your notes and biography planning sheet, start to write your biography about William Shakespeare.Remember to include lots of facts about Shakespeare but also to make interesting word choices, use a good range of punctuation and to vary your sentence starters so that you don’t just rely on his name or other pronouns such as ‘he’ or ‘his’ to start your sentences. Remember that you can rearrange the order of the clauses (information) within sentences to start them in different ways.

Science – Plant life cycles – fertilisationEspresso – Science 2 – Plant life cycles – videos - ‘Fertilisation’.

Watch the video then add a further page to your book, explaining about how fertilisation takes place in order for the flower to produce seeds. Remember to include some labelled diagrams.

PSHE – The need for sleepGetting a good night’s sleep is important, especially when you are at an age where your body is growing and changing rapidly. At a time like this where our usual routines might be difficult to follow, the need for a good bedtime and sleep routine is essential.

Read the information below and make a poster or information leaflet about why sleep is so important. Remember to include tips and ideas to ensure a good night’s rest.

Bedtime gratitudeGratitude is when you feel thankful or grateful about something. Before bedtime write 3 things from the day that you are grateful for. For example: Talking to a loved one on the phone, enjoying the taste of your food, having fun playing in the garden.

Continue with another section.

Don’t forget to tick the activities that you complete off on your record sheet.

Writing a biography

Continue to write and complete your biography about Shakespeare, ensuring you have included as much information as you can from your research.

Use a coloured pencil or pen to make improvements to your work (like we do with our purple pen work in class).

You could then copy your biography up in your best handwriting and add an illustration.

Computing – Staying safe onlineWatch the following video:www.childnet.com/resources/the-adventures-of-kara-winston-and-the-smart-crew/chapter3

Use the activity sheet below to write three things that you are already doing online to keep yourself safe, and set one additional target for yourself (a ‘wish’ in the cloud) that you can put into place to improve your experience online.

D.T – Cooking a dish from around the world

Over the past few weeks you have learnt more about where in the world our food comes from.

Choose your favourite world cuisine and plan a meal to include one or more dishes. It might be Italian, Indian, Mexican … the list is endless! Alternatively you could choose to make a dish that uses produce or originates from Yorkshire. If you make your dish or meal, upload a photograph onto the school Twitter feed for us all to see!

Golden Time (and for parents too!) Choose your favourite family activity to enjoy doing together. You could also make some plans together for some things that you will do together during half term next week.
