Job title: Community Fundraising Manager

Grade: Band 6 (two year fixed-term)

2. Job Summary

a) SCFT’s new Community Fundraising Manager will deliver the Trust’s fundraising strategy by leading community fundraising activity across the organisation.

b) Appointed initially on a two-year fixed term contract, s/he will play a leading role in shaping the development of and launching of a new charitable fund for the organisation (referred to as the Charity).

c) The post-holder will be instrumental in ensuring that increased charitable income provides the maximum value to the NHS, patients and the wider communities we serve.

d) The post-holder will lead major fundraising campaigns, coordinating with Communications and Engagement Team members and a network of community fundraisers.

e) They will be a good project manager and oversee the delivery of training to a network of community fundraisers.

f) A key part of the role will be creating and supporting networks of community fundraisers and working with existing stakeholder groups to encourage fundraising activity.

3. Main Responsibilities and Duties

Fundraisinga) To meet or exceed an annual fundraising target for the Charity.

b) To significantly increase our donor-led community fundraising activity and to ensure fundraising activity delivers a strong return on investment (ROI).

c) To provide excellent stakeholder management and fundraiser experience to ensure good retention of donors.

d) To deliver the charitable funds strategy while developing plans to increase brand awareness and maximise engagement opportunities.

e) To work closely with Trust staff to produce high quality and compelling requests for support from the charitable funds committee.

f) To create and deliver an annual fundraiser recruitment plan and to manage an annual programme of fundraising and community-led events.

g) Retain current donors and work to proactively identify and approach new supporters, building and supporting networks of community fundraisers.

h) Keep up-to-date with best practice in the sector.

i) Ensure all marketing and communication activity is in line with Trust brand and values.

j) Acknowledge donations promptly, accurately recording them and maintaining an effective database of supporters that is compliant with all relevant data protection regulations.

Marketing and communicationsa) Develop an innovative and engaging fundraising pack to support a wide range

of community fundraising activity.

b) To develop, manage and enhance the charity’s digital and social media presence.

c) Generate content for press releases, online news articles, internal communications, social media posts and other marketing activity.

d) With the support of the Head of Communications, build and maintain good relationships with local media and a variety of other external stakeholders Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust – Head of Communications and Engagement.

e) Contribute to the effective running of forward planning and measurement, evaluation and insight processes.

f) Ensure high quality, regular communication with the Charity’s supporters and stakeholders in conjunction with the Head of Communications and Engagement.

g) Ensure the Charity and the work of the charitable fund committee is communicated effectively to staff, volunteers and members of the Trust.

h) The post-holder will create engaging, well designed reports and evaluation documents to show the impact of fundraising activity. They will also be responsible for editing and maintaining a sophisticated content management system for the Trust website and intranet.

Finance and governancea) To manage the community fundraising expenditure budget and ensure all

income and expenditure if promptly and accurately recorded, producing reports on specific activity as required

Networksa) Encourage and support the Council of Governors and Trust members to

undertake and coordinate community fundraising activity on behalf of the Charity.

b) To work closely with the Trust’s Volunteer Development Service to recruit and support fundraising volunteers, ensuring they undertake rewarding tasks which are both motivational to the individuals but cost effective for the Charity.

a) Work with a broad range of stakeholders to engage on, design and deliver proactive fundraising appeals and campaigns.

b) Maintain good working relationships with senior leaders in services across the organisation – ensuring good internal visibility of the Charity and improving awareness of the fund.

c) Ensure good working relationships with the finance directorate and charitable funds committee.

d) Develop productive working relationships with national and local charities, including local ‘Friends of’ organisations.

e) Act as the first point of contact for internal and external enquiries for the Charity and Charitable Funds Committee when required, resolving queries, providing support and escalating where needed.

f) Be available for and present the Charity at public events, presentations and other fundraising work; addressing audiences as appropriate and promoting the organisations.

5. Additional Requirements

a) Ensure that fundraising standards of practice are maintained at all times and contribute in a positive manner to the overall development of the Communications and Engagement Team.

b) Project a professional image of public relations, communications and the trust at all times abiding by established policies and procedures.

c) The post-holder will be required to undertake market research and to evidence an ongoing analysis and application of industry best-practice. They will be required to research and apply fundraising theory, share that learning with the community network and with the Communications and Engagement Team.

d) The post holder will be required to travel to many of the trust’s other locations, and other organisations.

e) This post is one of continual development. The job description is intended as a guide to the principal duties and responsibilities of the post and complements individual objectives set in line with the department’s business objectives.

f) Responsibilities will be reviewed periodically in line with the service priorities and duties may change or new duties be introduced after consultation with the post holder.

a) The postholder may have tasks or responsibilities delegated to them, appropriate to their level of competence. They may also be expected to delegate tasks or responsibilities to other staff, as appropriate.

b) The Delegation Policy sets out the expectation of staff regarding the safe delegation of clinical care and therapeutic interventions to unregistered practitioners and support workers.

7. Flexibility

a) This job description is intended to provide a broad outline of the role. The postholder may be required to carry out other duties commensurate with their banding and competence.

8. Policies and Procedures

a) The postholder is required to familiarise themselves with all Trust policies and procedures and to comply with these at all times.

9. Confidentiality and Data Protection

a) The postholder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business and meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act (2018) and General Data Protection Regulation (2018) at all times.

b) The postholder must comply with all Trust information and data protection policies at all times. The work of a NHS Foundation Trust is of a confidential nature and any information gained by the postholder in their role must not be communicated to other persons except where required in the recognised course of duty.

10. Health, Safety and Wellbeing

a) Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and must follow these in full at all times, including ensuring that they act in line with all agreed procedures at all times in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.

12. Use of Technology

a) The Trust is making increased use of computer technology. The majority of employees (both clinical and non-clinical) should expect to use automated information systems in their work in order to improve quality and co-ordination of services, and to enable faster and more certain communication within the Trust. Necessary training will be provided.

13. No Smoking Policy

a) SCFT operates a no-smoking policy, in line with Government legislation. This applies to all staff, visitors and patients. It is a condition of employment for

staff that they do not smoke whilst on duty or in uniform or anywhere on Trust premises. This includes electronic cigarettes.

b) Whilst we do not discriminate against employing smokers, they are expected to adhere to this policy and all prospective employees should be aware of this.

14. Professional Registration

a) All employees who are required to be a member of a professional body are required to hold relevant registration and must comply with the standards and guidelines of their professional practice, education and conduct and must act at all times within the boundary of the code of conduct.

15. Infection Prevention and Control

a) Infection Prevention and Control is everybody's responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non-clinical are required to adhere to the Trust’s Infection Prevention and Control policy and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection prevention and control at all times thereby reducing the burden of Health Care Associated Infections.

16. Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults

a) SCFT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Rigorous recruitment checks are carried out and successful applicants may be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
