Task: Using the image of the old man offering Jack some baked beans and the viewfinder attached, carefully look at all the areas of the picture. Cut the centre of the viewfinder out and place on to the picture. Move the viewfinder around, slowly looking at the picture. Imagine the sights, sounds, smells feelings that Jack would have been experiencing during this scene.

List the nouns in the image then create a list of adjectives and verbs to describe the noun. Create 5 phrases starting with a noun phrase then adding a verb e.g. cold rain lashing (adjective, noun, verb). Tattered coat sways (adjective, noun, verb).

Remember,

Noun – Person, place or thing. Verb – a doing word. Adjective – describes the noun.

Cut out the view finder then cut out the dashed lines to create a window to look through. Place the view finder on the picture and move it around to see the picture in detail.

immersing Thursday 9 th July 2020 Following the vocabulary work from yesterday, re-read the text. What effect is the author trying to create? What is the tune of the text? What is the author trying to tell us about the setting? How? What emotions are the characters feeling? How do you know?

Task: Using the attached activity, your task is to complete the table by filling in what effect the author was aiming to get from you, the reader.

A suffix is a group of letters that goes on the end of a word to change its meaning slightly. Suffixes -ful and -less are suffixes that have the opposite meanings to each other. Sometimes they can both go on the end of a root word e.g. careful/careless but sometimes only one works e.g. homeless is a real word but homeful is not. Task: Your task today is to use the real or nonsense activity and work out which words are real and which words are nonsense. Draw and colour a picture of a baked bean tin in your book and write all the real suffixes inside your tin. How do you know if you are right? Using a dictionary, what did you find?
