What will I be learning in P6A Term 2 2018-19 Discrete Subjects Literacy Talking and listening skills will be developed through our Class Talk, delivering a presentation on our favourite European Country. In writing, we will follow the Big Book Writing project. We will use interesting and descriptive language to describe the setting and convey the atmosphere.We will use similies and appropriate vocabulary,illustrations and diagrams to enrich the story. Maths and Numeracy In maths we will be focussing on algebra, functions, fractions ,percentages and decimals. We will also be looking at problem solving through algebra. Our other number focus will be mental agility and speed tests using multiplication and division, paying particular attention as to which strategies help us work out a question mentally when larger numbers are involved. In Data Handling we will collect, organise and display data accurately in a variety of ways including through the use of digital technologies, for example, creating surveys, tables, bar graphs, line graphs, frequency tables, simple pie charts and spreadsheets. Science With our specialist we will be learning about Energy Sources and sustainability. We will identify the common types of energy (kinetic, potential, electrical, chemical, light, sound and heat) used in energy transfers and transformations that occur in everyday appliances. We will develop an understanding of renewable and non- renewable energy. P.E. Our PE Specialist will develop our gymnastic skills. Improving our physical competencies including core stability ,creativity and flexibility coordination and fluency on the mats and with gym apparatus. Modern Foreign Languages Our main focus in French will be learning the vocabulary for eating out and common drinks and food items found in cafes. We will also practise saying names of common pets and be able to say our nationality and the country we live in. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: We are learning to be responsible citizens and developing our awareness of the world through: Buddies With our Nursery buddies we will be continuing to build positive relationships through a variety of curricular activities. Community Learning Teams Each pupil will be part of a community learning team, building relationships with pupils from across the school and developing their knowledge, understanding and skills. Weekly Evaluations Pupils will have the opportunity to evaluate their week of learning by expressing their views on the weekly planner. Also using “Steps to Success” self-evaluation pointers and “what makes a good ….” class checklist by critically examining examples of each genre. Houses Each pupil will be an active member of one of the three Interdisciplinary Learning: Europe and the Impact of Natural Disasters During our topic we will be looking at the Map of Europe, learning key facts about countries within the E.U. We will focus on capital cities, architecture, natural landforms and culture, traditions and climate as compared to our own. In looking at physical processes of a natural disaster, we will discuss the impact upon people and landscape. Christianity : The Easter Story This term we will learn the importance of at least two from a traditional Easter celebration: a practice, a ceremony, a custom, a way of marking a major event in Christianity. Burns Listening to Burns poems and songs, gain an understanding of Scottish Culture and History focus on the meaning of` Auld Langs Syne` Use Scottish vocabulary in a story `The Great Haggis Hunt” Building Resilience This term we will be developing “Keep Connected” which will look at the importance of belonging to a community, relationships, building friendships in nurturing resilience. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: We are learning to celebrate our achievements through: Book of Achievements Pupils are invited to record their successes in our school book of achievements which is announced in our monthly newsletter. JASS We will be learning Orienteering skills, with map reading and using co-ordinates and reference points on a map of the school and grounds. A specialist team will deliver the programme.
