Activity: Creating a camouflaged animal--

Materials:- white paper- scissors- crayons/markers- a background

Draw the outline of a chameleon

MATH- Practice 1:1 correspondence using dried pasta, coins, or various other household manipulatives. Have your scholar draw a card from a deck—whatever number they have, they must count out that many manipulatives (i.e. Draw a 5—count out 5 pieces of pasta—1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

eOutdoor Play-Don’t step in the hot lava- Do not step on the floor. Place several rocks or leaves on the ground. Only jump on these leaves or rocks. Do not step on the ground. This can even be done inside the apartment with materials such as colored paper or blankets.

Key questions:- What does it mean

and have your scholar cut it out. Remember to make it big so it’s easy to cut! Next, put the blank stencil on a background. Have your scholar color the chameleon to blend into the background!

LITERACY- Have your scholar go on a ‘O’ hunt by looking through different books or food labels to try and find words that start with that letter. Have them practice making the initial sound of the letter with each word they find.

CUTTING- Using a ruler, draw out straight lines going across the paper. Have your scholar practice holding scissors and cutting across these lines. **For those turning 5, draw 6 squares (3”x3”), and have them color in the lines, then cut out the squares.

LIBRARY/ MEDIA-Animal Camouflage (Educational Video)

Art- Creating cloud watching binoculars: Have your scholar make a pair of cloud binoculars using empty toilet paper rolls. Have he/she color the tubes with blue paint or blue marker and let it dry. Have your scholar separate the cotton balls into small peices and glue the cotton balls around the tubes and let it dry. Once dry, your scholar can use their binoculars for any type of weather.

Literacy- On a set of popsicle sticks, have your scholar write down new vocabulary words (egg, butterfly, caterpillar) using different-colored markers. Place the popsicle sticks “word-down” into a small container. Have your scholar pick a popsicle stick and have him/her read the word. Reinforce your scholar to spell the word and to also tell you what color the word is written in. (This will reinforce their color memory and their spelling skills.)

What changes do we notice throughout the day?

Key vocab: night, day, sunset, sunrise

Key questions:- How does the day

change?- What is a sunrise?- What is a sunset?- How do you

change with the day? Think: sleepy, awake, hungry, etc.

Using 2 sheets of paper, your scholar will color one all blue with a sun and clouds (for day) and one all black with a moon and stars (for night). You can tape or glue them together so that they are side by side. Your scholar can either draw or find objects in the house (ex.toothbrush) of things that they do in the day time and do in the night time. They will differentiate, by drawing/placing them on the appropriate side.

Big ideas:1. Sunset is when the sun

comes up in the morning.

2. Sunset is when the sun goes down at night.

3. We change with the time of day (ex: In the morning I’m hungry. At night, I’m sleepy).

Activity: Making a Weather Journal

Using a thermometer, help your scholar check the weather and the temperature 2x a day (once in the morning, and once at night). Have them draw the weather (i.e. Sunny, cloudy, rainy, or partly sunny), and record the temperature.

warm or freezing.3. We can tell the

Fine Motor- Using a recipe (that’ll be provided to parents) you and your scholar will be creating play dough together. Play-dough is fantastic for building those small muscles! Kneading, pushing and rolling the dough really helps!

Ingredients:- 2 cups all-purpose flour- 3/4 cup salt- 4 teaspoons cream of

tartar- 2 cups lukewarm water- 2 Tablespoons of

vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)

- Food coloring, optional- Quart sized bags

Literacy- Using different materials found in the home, have your scholar create the letters of the week. How can they create these letters? Have them do this activity independently with as needed guidance along the way.

with the seasons? (Think: leaf colors, temperature, activities).

- What changes do you notice now that we’re going into summer?

- How are you changing for the summer?

Media: If You Know All the Seasons

Activity: Have your scholar draw a picture of what they look forward to doing this summer. Maybe it’s going to the beach. Maybe it’s playing ball outside. Maybe it’s going to the pool. The sky’s the limit! On the bottom of the picture, have them write the word: Summer.

Talk to them about how these activities are different than what they might do during other seasons.

Big ideas:1. There are 4 seasons:

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.

2. Some seasons are hot, and some seasons are cold.

Dramatic Play- If you can be a meteorologist (people who tell the weather) from TV, how would you describe the weather? Have your scholar dress up in clothes that meteorologists wear. What would you need in different types of weather?

- Rain - Umbrella, raincoat, rain boots

- Snow - Winter coat, winter boots, scarf, gloves, hat

- HOT Sunny Day - SING SONG “WHAT’S THE WEATHER”…

Fine Motor- Bean Gluing: Have your scholar write the letter of their first name on a piece of construction paper with a pencil. Have them trace the letter with glue and let them glue the beans onto the lines. (Gripping the beans with their fingers is great fine motor practice.)
