Year 1 Newsletter Friday 9 th October 2020 English Next week we are celebrating Black History Month. We will be reading the book Martin Luther King Jr Little People Big Dreams. During the week we will be thinking about our dreams and what we would wish for. How you can help at home: Draw a person in the BAME community who has inspired your life and write a simple sentence about why. They could be someone you know or someone famous. Reading in Year 1 We will be updating your child’s reading book every Friday. Remember to return your reading records every Friday so that they can be changed. Please ensure you are reading with your child daily. Maths Next week in Maths we are looking at the greater than (>) less than (<) and equals (=) symbols. We will be using them to compare different groups and numbers. How you can help at home: Compare different groups of objects using lollipop sticks or pencils to make the greater than (>) less than (<) and equals (=) symbols. Star of the week

Each Friday we have an achievement assembly. The class teacher chooses two

children who stood out as stars of the week. This could because of their amazing learning,

behaviour or values.

Last week’s stars of the week were:

Kerr Class- Hira and Ephraim

Browne Class- Ahmad and Omar

Rosen Class- Blessing and Adbullah

Important messages

Please make sure that you stand behind the cones wait for your child’s teacher to send your child to you at the end of the day. This is to ensure their and your safety.

Please ensure that you are following the one-way route system during drop off and pick up times.

If you send an email to the Year 1 team, make sure you include your child’s class as well as their name.

Homework

This week’s home work is practicing adding and subtracting. Remember you do not need to bring the homework sheet back to school.

Attendance w/e 02/10/2020

We will continue to monitor attendance. The class with the best attendance each week

will receive the attendance cup!

Kerr Class - 97.8%

Browne Class – 92.6%

Rosen Class – 87.6%

Well done to Kerr class who achieved the best attendance last week!
