The Isles of Scilly are an archipelago (cluster of islands) 25 miles off the southwestern tip of Cornwall, England. The principle islands are: St Mary’s, Tresco, St Martin’s, St Agnes and Bryher. Animals that are unique to the Isles of Scilly such as the Scilly Shrew. Include both the fauna (wildlife) and flora (flowers, trees etc.). We recommend

including the marine ecosystem that is home to fish, invertebrates and mammals – give examples.

Birdwatching – notably migratory birds.

Attractions that can be visited such as the world famous Tresco Abbey Garden. Special events such as ‘The Taste of Scilly’ which takes place throughout September or

the World Pilot Gig Championships. Give details on the events – what is involved, is there a cost?

Research places to stay and give details on location (which island) and cost. For example, “The Star Castle Hotel is a traditional sixteenth century castle found on the island of St Mary’s. The castle, which is set within 4 acres of secluded gardens, boasts an indoor heated swimming pool, tennis court, complementary golf and courtesy transport. Prices start at £319.00 for a double room, bed and breakfast.”

What food is typical of the Isles of Scilly? Include details of specific eateries, where they are located (which island), what food is

Give details about specific food & drink producers on the island such as ‘Veronica’s Fudge Farm’ on Bryher where fudge is made using Scillonian milk, butter and clotted cream.

We recommend gathering all your information first. You can decide how you want to present your information but you must include the following:

Be creative in your design. If you have access to colouring pencils then why not include some colour? Think about using bubble writing for the title or placing your information into shapes – the information about weather could be in a sun for example. Please make sure you share your completed brochure with your class teacher via ClassDojo!
