RE Long Term Plan
The following long-term plan is taken from the East Riding Agreed Syllabus and forms the basis of content which should be covered in Key Stage 2.
There should be a greater weighting to the teaching of Christianity – to be at least 50% of curriculum time. In addition, as is statutory requirement, the remaining time is divided between teaching two other world faiths, but these are not intended to be exclusive. We will bring other religions to the children wherever possible.
We have decided to teach Christianity and Judaism as two of the three statutory religions throughout the key stage. In addition to these in Year 3 we will teach Buddhism, Year 4 Hinduism and in Year 5 and 6 Islam.
We are using the new scheme Understanding Christianity to ensure we have full coverage of teaching Christianity across the whole of Key Stage 2. Units have been shared out across Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2 respectively. These have been allocated to try tie in with the units of the East Riding Agreed Syllabus as much as is possible.
This is a minimum requirement for RE and should not be viewed as definitive. Please also include events on the Christian calendar such as Harvest, Christmas, Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Easter, Pentecost and Saints’ Days.
