ABSENCESIf you know that your child will be missing school or will be tardy, please notify me by telephone or
electronic mail.
ALLERGIESKindly notify me of any allergies or special conditions your child may have.
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSALStudents should arrive to the classroom between 8:45 and 9:00am. School begins promptly at 9:00am and afternoon dismissal begins at 3:45pm. For students arriving before 8:45, please report to the Before Care classroom.
ATTENDANCEA successful school experience is the responsibility of the child, the parent and the school. Your child’s progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is a key.
BIRTHDAY PARTIESIf you wish to bring a snack into the class on your child's birthday, please feel free to do so. This is not mandatory. I do request, however, that you give me at least a 2-day notice to avoid conflicts with scheduled school or curriculum activities. Muffins or individual healthy snack items are preferred over a cake or cupcakes. If you are bringing in drinks, please make sure to send in individual juice boxes. If you do have invitations for a birthday celebration outside school, may I request that you distribute them outside school to avoid feelings from being hurt should the party not include everyone in the class.
BIRTHDAY GODDIE BAGS
We would like to ask for ONE goodie bag from each household. This way, as we celebrate each child’s special birthday, he/she will get to choose a goodie
bag from the bags prepared by each one of you. Summer birthdays will be recognized on the last few days of school Please limit the goodie bag to something that costs between $3-$5. The Dollar Store is a great place to find little gifts such as: birthday pencils, book-marks,
bubbles, stickers, etc.
Please do not label the goodie bags with names. How to put your goodie bag together:
Choose small, inexpensive, and neutral gifts (non-gender specific) Put the gifts inside a small gift bag Do NOT label the bags with names Return to your classroom teacher by Friday, September 16th
COMPLETE CHANGE OF CLOTHESPlease make sure your child has a complete change of clothes in his/her cubby at all times. The change of clothes does not have to be CBA uniform BUT must be school and weather appropriate.
CHECK BOOKBAGSPlease check your child’s book bag and homework folder for any papers sent home regarding homework, projects, or other current classroom/school information that about which you need to be made aware.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENTOur classroom is a small community where teamwork and good relationships are expected. We will spend time learning class procedures and practicing them. Each student is expected to act within our standards of behavior. To establish good order and help the children learn self-control, they will be guided to respect themselves and their classmates through character formation, values integration, specific directions, positive reinforcement, and responsible actions.
CONFERENCESParent/Teacher Conferences will be held throughout the school year. You will receive your child’s report card and we will discuss your child’s accomplishments, strengths and overall progress. Please feel free to schedule additional conferences at any time throughout the year if the need arises.
CORRESPONDENCE
My communication will largely be through electronic mail. I will send out weekly, or whenever needed, emails with reminders or updates. In addition to this, a newsletter will be going home every first week of the month. This will give you an idea of the things we will be engaging in school, important dates to remember, and a sweet note from me. The homework folder will also be utilized as a tool to stay connected. Notes or payments may be sent through the folder. If you have any concerns or questions you wish to discuss, kindly email me or send me a note letting me know you wish to set up an appointment.
EARLY PICK-UPWhile we hope that early release will be an occasional occurrence, you may certainly pick your child up from school before dismissal time. I only ask, if you are able, to notify me in advance that your child will be going home early. This will allow us to pack them up properly and alleviate any unnecessary stress or disturbance on your child’s and other children’s learning.
GYM DAYSDuring Gym days, your child should wear their gym uniform to school and shall remain wearing it for the rest of the day.
HOMEWORK This policy is to help your child gain responsibility, good study habits, independence, and initiative. Below is the policy we have drafted to make sure that expectations of your child are clear.
Homework will be given twice a weeko Tuesday- Literacy o Thursday-Mathematics
The assignments will be placed in your child’s homework folder. All assignments will be graded, not by performance, but for participation and effort. Homework is due the next school day. If there is a reason why a child is not able to finish his/her homework, please send a note on
the day the work is due. Incomplete homework will be noted and will still need to be completed at home that
evening and returned the next day.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your classroom teacher.
LUNCH
Lunch is scheduled from 11:30 to 12:00NN each day. You may pack your child’s lunch or purchase a school hot lunch. Your child also has the option to purchase hot lunch for $5.00. Hot lunches are provided through the Café Lunch Program. I encourage you to discuss the menu with your child so as to avoid uneaten lunch. After all, lunch is your child’s primary source of fuel during the busy school day.
NEWSLETTERSA newsletter will be sent to you on a monthly basis, which will be sent via e-mail as an electronic attachment. The newsletter will provide you with much information about the goings-on in school such as important dates, skills to be covered/introduced, and so much more. The newsletters will be created using MS Word Document. If you have no email address or your computer does not support MS Word, a hard copy will be provided for you. Furthermore, a copy will be posted on the classroom’s website and the Parent Bulletin Board, which is just outside our classroom.
PARENT SIGN-IN AND OUTSo that we may properly monitor your child, the sign-in & out sheet, which can be found by the door, MUST be signed when bringing and taking your child home.
SHOESPlease make sure that the shoes your children are wearing are sturdy, with good traction, and provide the support and protection needed for active play on the playground. For safety purposes, clogs, thongs, and slick soled shoes should not be worn at school.
TOYSPlease have your child keep all toys (including electronic games) and things that might distract from our educational process at home.
UNIFORMStudents are required to wear the Chesterbrook Uniform at all times, unless otherwise informed. Please label all clothing that can be removed and lost such as: sweaters, jackets, hats, etc.
