Curriculum for Excellence Class: Primary 4/3 What are we learning this term? 2014-15 Term 3 Cross-curricular theme: Scotland Mrs Sturgeon Literacy and English We will continue to read a range of fiction and non- fiction texts. Pupils will develop their knowledge of phonics and common words and transfer these skills into their daily writing activities. Weekly writing sessions will be linked to other areas of our learning. Social Studies Around the world This term our focus is on Scotland. We will be developing our knowledge of different landscapes around the country and their uses. We will also further develop our mapping skills. Alongside this, we will be learning more about different famous Scots. Health and Wellbeing PE We will be further developing our skills within gymnastics. We will also be learning some Scottish country dances. HWB We will be learning about our role within the community. Within Bounce Back the focus will be on relationships and ‘no bullying’. Religious and Moral Education The overarching theme for the school this term is ‘Light’. We will be looking at the Hindu festival of Holi. We will then move on to focusing on the Christian celebration of Easter. Numeracy and Mathematics We will continue working on our four operations of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. We will also be exploring time, money, estimating and rounding and Technologies In I.C.T we will be developing our word processing skills and use of auto shapes to create images. We will be participating in various engineering activities throughout the term. Sciences This term we will be investigating the effect of forces on everyday objects, We will also be learning about different kinds of energy around us and we will begin to recognise their importance in Expressive Arts We will be exploring different Scottish artists through our topic, for example, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and will also be exploring Scottish music.
