Scenario We have been tasked with creating a CD, which will be sold at our Music Department Showcase in March 2019 .

We already have excellent recordings from Year 7, 8, 9 and 10. As year 11’s with the most experience, we expect the the most interesting and varied work to come from you.

1.3 Undertake the performance for the recording purposes relevant to the aims identified in 1.1, to complete the recording of your instrumental or vocal part within a two hour time frame.

1.4 Assess the success of the performance in relation to the criteria in 1.1 and 1.2 and define areas of strength and those requiring further development in relation to future recording projects.

Task 1 You as Musician

Date Set: Hand in date: Task: Complete the questionnaire called ‘You as Musician’. Use the answers to answer the following questions:

1. What pieces of music are you recording to make up the 8 minutes

2. Use the questionnaire to help explain why you have chosen those pieces of music.

3. How have your musical skills developed since year 9? This can include use of music technology if you are recording sequenced performances.

4. Complete the rehearsal log – We start recording in January 2017, so show how you are going to use your time between now and then.

Assessment Criteria:

1.1 Assess personal aims in relation to instrumental or vocal performance, in a recording environment for a specific music repertoire to record eight minutes of material within a two hour time frame, including:

Evidence:1.1 – Responses to a questionnaire and written report (word document.

Task 2 Our studio

Date Set: Hand in date: Task

1) Working with Macaulay (studio engineer), take pictures and make a note of all of the equipment and software we use in the studio.

2) Which pieces of equipment and software will you be using for your recording?

3) Complete the questionnaire called ‘Studio Etiquette’. You can ask Macaulay or any 6th form students for help with this task.

Assessment Criteria:

1.2 Prepare effectively for the performance in a recording environment, considering the following:a) the specific environment where the recording will take placeb) methods used to record their performance;c) Health & Safety implications of recording in a specific environment;d) Pressures of performing in the recording environment;e) Personal equipment needsf) Communication with technical staff, where appropriate

Task 3 Performing and Recording

Date Set: Hand in date: Assessment Criteria:The learner can:1.3 - Undertake the performance for the recording purposes relevant to the aims identified in 1.1, to complete the recording of your instrumental or vocal part within a two hour time frame.Evidence:

1.3 Live performance – audio/video evidence of the performance supported by teacher observation report.

1.4 – Evaluative report including screenshots and photo evidence
