The Fantasy Stock Exchange By Gary Davenport

FANTASY STOCK EXCHANGE: Week 8

It’s halftime, folks.

With seven weeks of the 2016 NFL season in the books, the fantasy football regular season is at least halfway home. In many leagues only six more games remain until the playoffs start for some and the offseason starts for others.

Some things have gone according to plan. It isn’t any sort of surprise that Arizona Cardinals tailback David Johnson has the most fantasy points at his position. Nor is it a shock that Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons and A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals are the top two fantasy wideouts seven weeks in.

However, raise your hand if you thought Matt Ryan of the Falcons would be the top fantasy quarterback at this point in the season. Or if you believed that Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller would rank third at his position.

Now put your hand down, you big fibber.

The point is this – for every player who performs to expectations in fantasy football, there’s one that exceeds them and another who comes up short – making it all the more important to stay abreast of which players are headed in what direction.

Say, by reading an article just like this one.

Convenient, ain’t it?

QUARTERBACKS

STOCK UP: Ryan Fitzpatrick, New York Jets: What? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However, with Geno Smith out for the year with a torn ACL the Jets have little recourse but to roll with the bearded one this week against a non-existent Cleveland Browns defense.

STOCK DOWN: Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars: Bortles laid an egg in a cherry matchup with the Oakland Raiders, and even he admitted to Yahoo Sports that he’s been lousy. “Obviously not playing good,” Bortles said. “I couldn’t tell you. I wish I knew; I’d fix it. It’s just a continual thing and hopefully we can find a way to turn it around and solve some problems.”

STOCK UP: Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers: After throwing for 371 yards with a touchdown against the Falcons, Rivers ranks seventh among fantasy quarterbacks in Fantasy Sharks League Scoring. With luck the veteran signal-caller will struggle this week in Denver – setting the stage for astute fantasy owners to acquire him on the cheap in advance of a favorable turn in the schedule.

Weekly Report Page 3 www.FantasySharks.com

STOCK DOWN: Eli Manning, New York Giants: The bye week arrived at a good time for Manning, who could use an extra week to try to shake off the funk he’s been in. After failing to throw a touchdown pass last week in London Manning is stuck on eight for the year, and his Transatlantic turd was the third time in seven games in 2016 that Manning’s been held out of the end zone.

RUNNING BACKS

STOCK UP: Jay Ajayi, Miami Dolphins: Ajayi has been marginally impressive the past two games – I guess. The second year pro has carried the ball 53 times over that span, picking up 418 rushing yards and scoring three touchdowns. That’s OK I suppose – if back to back 200+-yard efforts are the sort of thing that turns your gears.

STOCK DOWN: Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs: Charles played all of two snaps last week against the New Orleans Saints, with head coach Andy Reid attributing the lack of PT to a minor setback with Charles’ surgically repaired knee. With Spencer Ware playing well the Chiefs have no reason to push it with Charles. It’s a good thing for them, but it isn’t helping fantasy owners any.

STOCK UP: Jacquizz Rodgers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: With first Doug Martin and then Charles Sims succumbing to injuries, lead back duties in Tampa have fallen to the veteran scat back. All Rodgers has done over the past two weeks is carry the ball 56 times for 255 yards and set a career high in rushing two games in a row. So long as he’s starting, Rodgers is a fantasy RB1.

STOCK DOWN: Jordan Howard, Chicago Bears: The bloom is off the rose where Howard is concerned. After piling up two straight 100-yard games against the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts, Howard has only 56 yards on 22 carries over the last two weeks. Add in that Ka’Deem Carey appears to have wrested lead back duties from Howard, and you have a rose that’s worse than bloom-less – that bad boy may just be dead.

WIDE RECEIVERS

STOCK UP: Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers: With the Green Bay ground game beset by injuries, Montgomery has emerged as a Swiss Army Knife offensive threat for the team. Montgomery now has double-digit receptions and over 100 total yards in two straight games. He also now has positional eligibility as both a wideout and a running back with some fantasy providers.

STOCK DOWN: Odell Beckham, New York Giants: Given the struggles of his quarterback it isn’t surprising to see Beckham on this list. The hope was that Beckham’s Week 6 explosion was a portent of a rebound in his fantasy value. Instead it appears to have been an aberration – Beckham now has four games this season where was both held out of the end zone and failed to top 100 yards – as many times as that happened in all of 2015.

STOCK DOWN: Cameron Meredith, Chicago Bears: Sadly, it appears that Cinderella Cameron has turned back into a pumpkin. The second-year pro emerged as a surprise fantasy star with Brian Hoyer at quarterback for the Bears, but the moment Hoyer went down with a broken forearm last week Meredith once again vanished from the Chicago offense.

STOCK UP: Tyrell Williams, San Diego Chargers: With Keenan Allen out for the season, the belief was that Travis Benjamin would step into the role of Philip Rivers’ go-to receiver. But in two of the last three games it’s

Page 4: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

been Williams who posted the big score, including a seven-catch day for 140 yards in San Diego’s wild overtime win in Atlanta.

TIGHT ENDS

STOCK UP: Vernon Davis, Washington Redskins: With star tight end Jordan Reed out with yet another concussion, Davis has started the last two games for Washington. The veteran has turned back the clock to his heyday with the 49ers, reeling in eight catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. If you’re in a bye week bind at the position Davis is a great fill-in.

STOCK DOWN: Martellus Bennett, New England Patriots: As things stand right now, Bennett ranks second among fantasy tight ends, trailing only Greg Olsen of the Carolina Panthers. But with Rob Gronkowski 100 percent again last week showed the risk in starting Bennett – he only played about half the snaps against the Pittsburgh Steelers and managed only one catch.

STOCK UP: Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts: As Rotowire pointed out, the injury to Dwayne Allen may have elevated Doyle to every week starter status. “This could be the rare case in which a backup has more fantasy value than the injured starter he's replacing,” they said, “as Doyle and Allen were previously eating into each other's targets.”

STOCK DOWN: Zach Miller, Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler is a joy murdering, ugly-sweater wearing, cat canoodling son of a gun. Kidding aside, the same problem Cameron Meredith’s fantasy owners are about to experience applies to Miller as well – his value came mostly with Hoyer under center. In the two games in 2016 in which Cutler played, Miller has seven catches for 47 yards and zero scores.

The Red Zone: Week 8Thomas Casale

Passing

Drew Brees, Saints – Brees has been the most productive red zone quarterback so far this season. He’s completed 28-of-37 passes (76 percent) with 14 touchdowns and just one interception. Brees has a bevy of weapons in receivers Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead and Michael Thomas. He also throws to his running backs and tight ends near the goal line. Just like in past years, red zone scores have elevated Brees to an elite fantasy quarterback yet again.

Joe Flacco, Ravens – You ever think we watched a Super Bowl where Flacco and Colin Kaepernick started at quarterback? Flacco has thrown 28 passes in the red zone. He’s completed 18 of them for three touchdowns. It’s not all Flacco’s fault. He doesn’t have great receivers but Flacco does need to take some of the blame. He continues to throw to receivers short of the end zone. The play calling hasn’t been great but when an experienced Super Bowl winning quarterback has three red zone touchdowns on 28 pass attempts, he needs to take some of the heat.

Matthew Stafford, Lions – Stafford has struggled with turnovers in the red zone throughout his career but not this season. He’s completed 21-of-34 passes (62 percent) with 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Stafford is actually playing better without Calvin Johnson. Instead of forcing the ball to Megatron, Stafford is spreading the ball around more. With no running game at all, look for Stafford to continue to be one of the top red zone quarterbacks all season.

Rushing

C.J. Anderson, Broncos – Anderson is an interesting player going forward because of the emergence of Devontae Booker. Right now Anderson ranks fourth in the NFL in red zone attempts (23) and tied for fifth in touchdowns (4). He’s seeing 64 percent of the Broncos red zone carries. However, Booker has started to see more touches in the last two games and that’s going to continue in the coming weeks. Booker is averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He has seven red zone carries. Expect this to be closer to a 60/40 split over the next month. Now with his injury, will he get his job back?

Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys – Elliott has 17 red zone rushing attempts and four touchdowns. The good news for Elliott owners is his red zone numbers should get even better over the next two months. He’s currently seeing 61 percent of the Cowboys red zone carries. Early in the year Alfred Morris was stealing some red zone carries. Those days are over. Look for Zeke to rack up short touchdowns behind Dallas’ dominant offensive line for the rest of the year.

Latavius Murray, Raiders – It’s shocking that Murray doesn’t get more red zone carries. He’s gotten nine red zone carries this season and scored four times. Despite that success, Murray is only seeing 53 percent of the Raiders red zone rushing attempts. He did miss two games but those numbers were similar before Murray was injured. It’s hard to argue with Oakland’s approach because they’re 5-2 but

Page 6: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 6 www.FantasySharks.com

Murray is clearly the team’s most productive goal line runner. Now that he’s healthy again, hopefully Murray will take over as the Raiders primary goal line runner but that’s far from a lock.

Receiving – WR

T.Y. Hilton, Colts – Hilton has been targeted at least 10 times in every game but one this season. He has 76 total targets on the year. The one negative for Hilton owners is he’s only been targeted seven times in the red zone and has scored twice. Hilton has never been a huge red zone threat and that’s not going to change. It’s one of the reasons why he’s never scored more than seven touchdowns in a season.

Brandon LaFell, Bengals – LaFell has emerged as Andy Dalton’s top red zone target. He’s been targeted eight times and scored four touchdowns. He’s seeing 27.6 percent of the Bengals red zone targets. Surprisingly, all of LaFell’s red zone numbers are better than A.J. Green’s after seven games. That likely won’t hold all year but LaFell is starting to put up consistent weekly fantasy numbers.

Michael Thomas, Saints – Thomas is becoming one of Brees’ top targets. He’s been targeted seven times in the red zone with three scores so far this season. As mentioned above, Brees is going to sling it inside the 20 and Thomas’ role in the offense continues to grow. The rookie has established himself as a weekly WR3.

Receiving – TE

Jason Witten, Cowboys – Witten is coming off the bye week with Dez Bryant returning. He may have missed his best opportunities to make an impact in the red zone. The chances have been there, the results have not. Witten has been targeted nine times in the red zone. That’s 36 percent of the Cowboys red zone targets but he’s yet to score a touchdown. Dez will certainly eat into those looks as long as he stays healthy.

Jack Doyle, Colts – While Coby Fleener continues to flounder in New Orleans, Jack Doyle has emerged as a TE1 in Indianapolis. Doyle has now been targeted eight times in the red zone and scored three touchdowns. With Dwayne expected to miss a month, Doyle will be one of Andrew Luck’s top red zone targets over the next few weeks.

Zach Ertz, Eagles – Ertz has been a miserable bust this season. He’s barely being targeted at all; forget about the red zone. Ertz has one red zone target this year. That’s the same number as Brent Celek. He did miss two games with a rib injury but still, Ertz simply isn’t getting looks in the passing game right now.

THE DAILY PLANET BY TODD COLBURN

The Daily Planet – Week 8By Todd Colburn

Week 7 was a decent one for the Daily Planet. We were pleased with the way our guys delivered, so many of our entries cashed. We were a couple of dud performances away from some big wins, however, as big investments such as Allen Robinson, Amari Cooper and Buffalo defense were awful. However, Tyrell Williams and James White delivered some great value. Jerick McKinnon left early with injury; one of the biggest of fantasy bummers. Marcus Mariota didn’t have his best day, but still returned a decent result for the investment. Week 8 presents a bit of a challenge with six teams on BYE…we’ve got a smaller player universe to work with, so let’s dig in and find the smart plays for Week 8:

BYES in Week 8: Miami, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, NY Giants, Los Angeles, San Francisco

VEGAS-SOURCING

Vegas-sourcing is the term I use for the strategy of using the knowledge of the wise guys to inform your daily fantasy decisions. Each week you’ll want to build a base of information around the matchups. Vegas bookmakers have an uncanny ability to project what teams are going to put up on the scoreboard. The over/unders and the spread give you a free look at what the experts think each team is going to produce. So instead of “crowdsourcing,” we present: “Vegas-sourcing.” You just extrapolate the projected points scored by a team by looking at the Over/Unders and cross-referencing the spreads. Keep in mind that the numbers all change throughout the week, so don’t get too worked up if the line has moved based on what you see below. The takeaway is the same whether Vegas is projecting 28 or 29 points scored by a team at different points throughout the week.

High Scorers: Atlanta 28 Low Scorers: Buffalo 20New England 27 San Diego 19.5Kansas City 26.5 Philadelphia 19.5Tampa Bay 25.5 Cleveland 17.5Carolina 25.5 Chicago 17

Notable: Seattle 25.25Green Bay 25Detroit 21.25

Atlanta keeps the top spot this week, even over New England, and I don’t need to tell you to keep starting those skill players. Kansas City gets the soft Indianapolis defense, while Tampa Bay gets a nice matchup with Oakland at home. Carolina seems slightly questionable in that Top 5 with a scorching hot Arizona defense across the line of scrimmage. I’m wary, especially with the Panthers’ season already essentially over. Cam Newton and company may have some momentum coming off of the BYE, but I think if this starts out ugly for them, they could fold quickly. On the other side of the spectrum, San Diego surprisingly ends up in the Bottom five. Yes, Denver is a stifling defense, but I like the Chargers chances to put up some points. Nevertheless, I am going to heed Vegas’ warning and consider fading the usual Chargers. Philadelphia has come down from its early-season scoring binge (averaging 21 points over the last three weeks), so Vegas has adjusted accordingly.

In the notables section, you can call me skeptical of Seattle being the #6 scoring offense this week. I do believe it is a matter of time before Russell Wilson goes off on a run like in 2015, and the New Orleans defense may be just the catalyst that offense needs. Green Bay is not cured. Don’t believe it for a minute. Last Thursday night’s game was as wonky as it gets, and I’m not ready to R-E-L-A-X. Just because Vegas sees the Packers as putting up 25 against Atlanta doesn’t mean I’m going to start Aaron Rodgers. The Falcons have most recently been terrorizing opposing QBs (11 sacks and only 2 TDs allowed over the last three weeks). Don’t look at this as a slam dunk for the Packers’ skill players this week. Lastly, there is a lot of Matthew Stafford love being tossed around the fantasy community – just note Detroit’s presence near the bottom of the projected scoring offenses this week. I’m not terribly impressed with the Houston defense, but they have been getting pressure on the QB, and they are playing at home. Considering fading your Lions this week.

WEEK 8 VALUE PLAYS

DEFENSE: Defense is where I usually like to steal some value. You can usually find some nice inefficiencies in pricing on defense. I will often start my roster construction with defense, looking for the best relative value, with an emphasis on low price. Some weeks, the matchup compels you to take the high-priced options, but I like to spend my money elsewhere.

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryDallas $3000 NY Jets $4700Tennessee $2800 Dallas $4600Arizona $2700 New England $4500Detroit $2500 Detroit $4400San Diego $2400 San Diego $4200

If you want to take the Minnesota defense and call it a day, I can’t blame you. This is a fantastic matchup, and I like the Vikes to eviscerate the possibly Jay Cutler-led Bears. However, we can’t

Page 9: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 9 www.FantasySharks.com

always shell out the coin required for the top option. If you need value at the DST slot, here are a few really nice values. First off, I like Dallas as a Top 5 defense this week at home versus Philadelphia. They are going to shut down the run and make Philly one-dimensional, which doesn’t bode well for most teams. The NY Jets get the Cleveland treatment this week; more often than not, the Browns will score 20 points or less, as well as give up a turnover or two. I like Tennessee on offensively-challenged Thursday night at home against Jacksonville. I guarantee Blake Bortles will turn the ball over. Then again, for $100 less, I can get the Arizona defense on DK. As well as they played against Seattle, I’m not super convinced that Carolina is going to come out guns a-blazin’. If you like living a little dangerously (and working contrary to Vegas, I guess), then consider the Cards. Detroit is an underrated option; what I’ve seen of Brock Osweiler and Houston of late is compelling for the sake of the Lions’ defense. I threw in San Diego as my bargain basement pick of the week – since when is Denver this stalwart offense? They only put up 13 against San Diego in Week 6 – they’re all of the sudden going to double that? For the low price, I might like to gamble a little bit that Denver has a quiet week on offense. The Chargers are a Top 10 fantasy defense and I don’t think anyone realizes it…

QUARTERBACK: Normally I like to pay up for the best QB options, as they are such a big source of points. This week is no exception, as some of the highest-priced players project to score big this weekend (I’m looking at you, Drew Brees). But if you want to go big at another position, here are some values for you to consider:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryAndrew Luck $6800 Andrew Luck $7900Andy Dalton $6200 Andy Dalton $7700Marcus Mariota $5900 Marcus Mariota $7500Derek Carr $5900 Jameis Winston $7400Jameis Winston $5700 Alex Smith $6800

I want to believe in Vegas, and I want to believe this is the week that Russell Wilson gets untracked. However, his price across DK & FD are too high. I’m going to look for some deeper value, starting with, *ugh* Jameis Winston. Let me start by saying, in general, I’m not a fan. But if there is a guy that can throw 3-4 TDs against a relatively soft defense, it’s Winston. I’m banking on his tendency to throw a dozen passes up for grabs that seem to end up in Mike Evans’ hands. His value on DraftKings is especially good. I really like Andrew Luck this week. What made him so successful against Tennessee in Week 7, despite the fact that the Titans have been very stingy against the pass? The lack of a pass rush. The Titans never seemed to get to Luck, and Luck picked them apart. Give him time, and he will ruin a defense. He just hasn’t had time most of the season. Guess who has gotten the fewest sacks in 2016? You guessed it, Kansas City. Lastly, I really like Alex Smith to get whole on the Indianapolis’ secondary this week. He’s more of a cash games guy, as I’d characterize him with 2 TD upside, but he has a high floor.

Page 10: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

RUNNING BACK: Normally, I’m looking for value at RB and paying up for top WRs. With so many roles in question, it’s hard to justify going too deep into the bargain bin, but here are some guys outside of the top tier to consider:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalarySpencer Ware $6800 Spencer Ware $7400Melvin Gordon $5700 Matt Forte $7300Jonathan Stewart $4900 LeGarrette Blount $6600James White $4800 Frank Gore $6300Latavius Murray $4500 Jonathan Stewart $6100

Spencer Ware finally got priced closer to where he should be, as he gets a $1,000 salary bump on DK! Nevertheless, I’m going to keep using him. He’s a Top 3 RB, and he’s being priced outside the Top 3. It’s that simple. On FD, Matt Forte has some nice value for a RB with Top 5 potential each week. LeGarrette Blount is a no brainer in non-PPR, and his price is reasonable on FD. People will fade Melvin Gordon because of the Denver matchup, but you probably shouldn’t. The guy scores TDs no matter what. And his value on DK this week is too good to pass up. And finally, I think Jonathan Stewart is priced well if you have any belief in Carolina this week. Cam Newton is finally giving the ball to Stewart at the goal line, and not taking those runs for himself. I like Stewart’s chances at pay dirt this week.

WIDE RECEIVER: Most weeks, my plan will be to max out the wide receiver position. I’ll try to get top guys for their reliability. With one higher-end RB, you might have to find at least one bargain among this position group. Here are some options for Week 8:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryDoug Baldwin $6900 Brandin Cooks $7200Michael Crabtree $6700 Larry Fitzgerald $7000Demaryius Thomas $6200 Emmanuel Sanders $6600Jeremy Maclin $6000 Jeremy Maclin $6400Davante Adams $4900 Jordan Matthews $6000

Alright, I’m weaning myself off of Julian Edelman this week, so watch him go for 12 catches and a couple of TDs. But I’m sticking to my guns on Larry Fitzgerald, especially where he’s priced on FD. Strong value. I would always like to have Brandin Cooks in my lineup, but he’s priced outside of the Top 10 this week on FD, so I’m in on that action. Denver is apparently going to pile up points this week against San Diego, so load up on Demaryius Thomas on DK, but choose Emmanuel Sanders on FD due to valuations. And I promise you this: if Jeremy Maclin can’t get it going against Indianapolis, I will stop touting him for good in 2016. Surely there is a turnaround coming. Lastly, I

Page 11: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 11 www.FantasySharks.com

don’t know who else Green Bay has in the way of skill position players if not for Davante Adams. I’m willing to suspend my disbelief that he will replicate something akin to his performance in Week 7.

TIGHT END: I’m going extreme on TE most of the time. Either it’s Gronk or Jordan Reed if the numbers work out right (I find multiple bargains at other positions), or I might be punting TE. That said, punting TE doesn’t mean you put a can of corn out there. You can get a quality contributor for cheap. Here are some options:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryJimmy Graham $6100 Jimmy Graham $6700Jack Doyle $3500 Travis Kelce $5700Kyle Rudolph $3500 Tyler Eifert $5600Gary Barnidge $3300 Kyle Rudolph $5100Cameron Brate $3200 Gary Barnidge $5000

If there’s a higher-end guy I do like this week, it’s obviously Jimmy Graham. If Russell Wilson does get back on an MVPish track, it’ll be Graham leading the way. My next favorite this week is Gary Barnidge. Guess who has been medically cleared to practice? Cody Kessler? Nope, stop it. Josh McCown! Look for much goodness going Barnidge’s way if McCown is the starter this week (Kessler has yet to be cleared to practice). FD has a couple of nice pricing inefficiencies as well (Kelce and Eifert).

ASSUME THE POSITION BY BILL AQUAVIVA

ASSUME THE POSITION: Week 8

Geno Smith is the new Jets starter, oops, he’s out for the season with an ACL and Ryan Fitzpatrick is back in the saddle. Dez Bryant should be back this week and LeSean McCoy is an uncertainty with his hamstring injury. Jay Cutler is ready to return, just in time with Hoyer out with a broken arm and Stephen Gostkowski seems to forget he’s a kicker and PATs are part of his job. Aaron Rodgers might be back, Arian Foster is retiring, Jay Ajayi is a machine, Kevin Hogan has owners rushing to the waivers to pick him up and calls for Jared Goff are escalating after Keenum’s 4 INT day against the Giants.

This week the Ravens, Rams, Dolphins, Giants, Steelers and 49ers have byes so adjust your lineups accordingly, and next week the Cardinals, Bears, Bengals, Texans, Patriots and Redskins have byes so make moves now if you need to replace players from any of those teams. Speaking of the Redskins, they play the Bengals in an early London game this Sunday morning so make sure your lineup includes any of those teams’ players early.

As always, the weekly Assume The Position article takes a look at some of the great matchups (“Money in the Bank”), good matchups (“Safe Bets”) and bad matchups (“Rolling the Dice”), and we give you one player at each position (QB, RB, WR and TE) that we’ve identified for that respective performance (great, good or bad), taking into account the player’s offensive capabilities as well as the defensive matchup they’re facing. And remember, a bad matchup is not a suggestion to bench a player; that decision depends on your roster and who you have available to replace that player, it’s just a caution for you to review and consider and check for a better alternative. If you don’t have a better alternative you should stick with that player.

MONEY IN THE BANK (Great Matchup)

Ryan Fitzpatrick – QB, N. Y. Jets (at CLE)

Heeee’s baaaack. Benched due to poor play for Geno Smith, Fitzpatrick is back at the helm thanks to an ACL tear for Geno. And the circumstances couldn’t be better for his return start than against the pathetic Cleveland Browns and their 28th ranked pass defense that gives up the 2nd most fantasy points and TDs to QBs. He’s thrown 11 INTs to just 6 TDs but if there’s a medicine for crappy QB play in this league, Cleveland is near the top. A little time to reflect and being pissed off should result in a big performance this week against a horrible team.

Spencer Ware – RB, Kansas City Chiefs (at IND)

According to Alex Reimer of SB Nation, “Regardless of Charles' status, Spencer Ware will once again be Kansas City's No. 1 back Sunday.” So whether or not Jamaal Charles is active and plays, Ware is

keeping the #1 RB job in Kansas City, and this week he gets to pad his stats a little more, and hopefully add some more TDs. The Colts have the 25th ranked run defense and give up the 4th most fantasy points to RBs, including the 3rd most total TDs, the 4th most receiving yards and the most receiving TDs. Ware can run and catch the ball so he should be in for a huge game at Indy that should propel his stats into the top 10 for RBs.

Mike Evans – WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. OAK)

Evans is 9th in the league in receiving yards, tied for 6th in receptions, and tied for 1st in TDs for WRs. He’s clearly a stud WR but this week could be even more special than usual as he and the Bucs host the Raiders this week. Oakland is the 32nd ranked pass defense, gives up the 6th most fantasy points, the 5th most receptions, and the 13th most TDs to WRs. Oakland’s defense is quite frankly, horrible, and Evans should have a huge day this week.

C. J. Fiedorowitz – TE, Houston Texans (vs. DET)

Fiedorowitz has been having a solid season even with competition from Ryan Griffin, and despite having Brock Osweiler as his QB, but he should follow up last week’s strong performance (6-85-1) with another big output this week against the lowly Detroit Lions. The Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reports that Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey stated "as far as the running game is concerned, he's a big factor controlling the edge. That's one of his main jobs. He's starting to contribute in the passing game”. Against Detroit’s 24th ranked pass defense that is even worse against TEs, where they give up the 3rd most fantasy points, the 9th most yards, the 4th most receptions and the most TDs, expect him to contribute to the passing game a lot more this week.

SAFE BETS (Good Matchup)

Brock Osweiler – QB, Houston Texans (vs. DET)

Only Ryan Fitzpatrick and Case Keenum have thrown more INTs, and 23 other QBs have passed for more yards. But if ever there was a chance for Osweiler to get his act together and have a big fantasy day it’s this week against the Detroit Lions. Detroit brings their 22nd ranked pass defense, one which gives up the most fantasy points and the most TDs to QBs and has the 3rd fewest INTs in the league. He’s obviously a backup QB on your team, if he’s on it at all, but with 6 teams on a bye this week you may need your backup and he should be a solid one week option. Worried about him being benched? Around the NFL Writer Chris Wesseling states that “O'Brien shot down that notion on Tuesday, insisting he hasn't considered benching Osweiler.”

Christine Michael – RB, Seattle Seahawks (at NO)

Michael has cracked 66 yards rushing once this season, in week 3 against the league’s worst run defense, the 49ers. But as Seahawks Correspondent Derek Norton points out “this was the first time since Week 2 that Michael didn't find the end zone”. Well, guess who is almost as bad as San Francisco? The Saints. The Saints have the 14th ranked run defense, which doesn’t sound too bad, but they give up more rushing TDs than any other team and they give up the most fantasy points to RBs in

Page 15: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

the league. So if Michael is sitting on your bench doing nothing this week while you have a starter or two on a bye, you want to consider plugging in Michael as he could run rampant this week in New Orleans.

Randall Cobb – WR, Green Bay Packers (at ATL)

Look, somebody from Green Bay’s receiving corps has to be on here for a solid opportunity this week when we’re talking about the Atlanta Falcons pass defense as the opponent. Atlanta has the 31st ranked pass defense, just behind Oakland. They’re middle of the pack in fantasy points allowed, TDs, receptions and yards allowed to WRs, but the opportunity for Rodgers to Cobb are too intriguing to pass up, especially after Green Bay’s performance last week. Jordy Nelson is struggling, Davante Adams just went off so the odds are against him repeating that, which leaves Cobb in line for another big day.

Vernon Davis – TE, Washington Redskins (at CIN - in London)

Jordan Reed has missed two weeks and although he’s been cleared to practice this week, a trip to London followed by a bye week makes me think he’ll get another week off, which means Vernon Davis gets another shot to relive his glory days, and a matchup against the Bengals is very favorable for him. As Washington, D.C. local sports radio station 106.7 The Fan Writer Bryan Frantz points out, “very few players can replace the elite production that [Jordan] Reed offers. But Davis has been an admirable fill-in, and with Reed and [WR Josh] Doctson hurt, the Redskins - once boasting more receiving talent than they knew what to do with - are happy to have the extra help.” Cincinnati has the 15th ranked pass defense but against TEs they give up the 7th most fantasy points, the 7th most yards and the 5th most TDs. This might be the last shot for Davis to “provide the extra help”, and he has a good matchup so you should consider him if your starting TE is on a bye or has a bad matchup.

ROLLING THE DICE (Bad Matchup)

Drew Brees – QB, New Orleans Saints (vs. SEA)

Bench the legendary Drew Brees who is leading the league in passing TDs and is 2nd in passing yards? No, not bench him...necessarily. But depending on your backup QB and his matchup you may want to seriously consider it due to this week’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle’s 9th ranked pass defense is giving up the 3rd fewest fantasy points to QBs, and the 2nd fewest TDs to QBs. Brees will likely perform well, but will that be enough for you compared to your backup who might go off against the Raiders, Panthers, Lions, Browns, Bengals, or Chargers?

Devonta Freeman – RB, Atlanta Falcons (vs. GB)

Freeman is the 8th leading rusher in the league right now, but this week’s matchup makes him a very risky play. Green Bay has the league’s #1 ranked run defense, gives up the fewest fantasy points, the 4th fewest rush attempts, the 6th fewest receptions and the second fewest rushing TDs (just 1) to RBs. They are huge at run stopping with only Ezekiel Elliott having bettered them this season. Look for

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Freeman to struggle mightily against the Packers this week and if you have a viable replacement you should definitely consider him.

Tyrell Williams – WR, San Diego Chargers (at DEN)

I look for the league’s 11th best WR (based on receiving yardage) to struggle this week against the league’s #1 ranked pass defense in Denver. San Diego has been in shoot-out after shoot-out and in close game after close game all year. This will likely be another close game but I’m not betting on another shoot out. Denver gives up the fewest fantasy points, receptions, yards and TDs to WRs, so yeah, you might want to look for another option this week.

Greg Olsen – TE, Carolina Panthers (vs. ARZ)

Arizona has the 7th ranked pass defense but is #1 against TEs. They allow the fewest fantasy points, the 5th fewest receptions, the third fewest yards and are one of only 5 teams to not allow a TD to TEs this season. So despite Olsen being the best TE in the league right now, with the most yards, the most receptions and the most 20+ yard plays, his matchup is very tough and if you have another viable option you may want to consider that.

FLEX APPEAL BY MICHAEL NEASE

Flex Appeal —Week 8By: Mike Nease, Senior Writer

On one hand the NFL says they want to protect the QB. Yet on the other hand, the QB sack is the ultimate defensive goal on any passing play. It is kind of like feeding time for lions or sharks with trying to keep the prey in a flimsy bamboo cage. When you look at the NFL’s dropping ratings all you have to do is look at the Arizona-Seattle game this Monday night that resulted in a 6-6 tie with a pair of botched FGs deciding to keep the outcome tied.

You had two defenses that were unrelentingly beating the QBs to a pulp. The defensive play was so far ahead of the offensive game that was being attempted that it was not even possible for either team to score a single TD. How exciting is that?

In the last couple years the NFL pays lip service to protecting players. Yes, there are penalties and fines, sometimes even suspensions, but the casualty count keeps rising. Could it be that people are tiring of the carnage, or watching bad teams play in prime time? The 1-6 Bears have three prime time games in already. As a life-long Bears fan, I can hardly stand to watch them. Why would casual fans subject themselves to an evening of doing that?

Many of the replays show the viciousness of the game. There is such a spirit of anger that is almost a blood lust that makes “killing the QB” more than a metaphor. Well, if your team can cripple the opposing QB, yours can go down as well. Russell Wilson and Cam Newton have been neutralized by injuries. The Browns are using their 4th QB and the Bears finished the last game with their 3rd. Teddy Bridgewater might not be able to play again. And the list goes on and on. And these are only the QBs.

Injuries at all the other offensive and defensive do nothing to enhance the game. It is time that the NFL took off the blinders that kept concussions out of sight and out of mind for so long. Injuries are making many games hard to watch and viewership is down. A primetime game between two mediocre, battered teams makes so many other activities appear attractive. The game we all love could be killing itself with greed. The powers that be have to learn to moderate the violence level before it is too late.

How can you punish defensive players who are playing the way they have been taught and are fan favorites because of it? That is the big question that needs to be answered.

My goal each and every week will be to help you fill that wild card slot in your lineup, the flex position, with some viable, practical solutions.

Page 18: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

In a typical fantasy football lineup we have one position dedicated to a flex player, that being an extra RB, WR, or TE. Many people just take a lower tier RB or WR and slap them into the lineup. Following that haphazard strategy can cost you games on a regular ongoing basis.

You can turn the challenging flex position in your lineup into one of strength, rather than an afterthought. Typically the selection pool here in a 12-team league includes those players ranked beyond RB24, WR36 and TE12. I will use several rankings sources to obtain a healthy consensus.

Marriage Material

This could be either an available free agent pickup, or a player you already have on your roster that you would take home to meet your folks. This is a likely keeper that you can use more often than not throughout the rest of the season. He has a flair for consistency and the ability to light up the scoreboard with big numbers some weeks.

RB Giovani Bernard, Cin

Over the last three weeks, Giovani Bernard has a 41-179-1///11-98-0 stat line, averaging about 15 FPPG. He has found a niche that makes him a great flex option each and every week. In tandem with Jeremy Hill, Bernard is more valuable than most WR4s and gives you a more potent lineup.

This week against the Redskins, we are looking for Giovani Bernard to be good for about 9-10 FP or so.

WR Anquan Boldin, Det

Over the years Anquan Boldin has always just slipped in quietly and become a solid WR play. Even an aging Boldin with solid 15-136-2 numbers over the last three games is productive and Matthew Stafford likes throwing to him. He has filled a void that the Lions have had for years, that of being a dependable WR3.

The underrated Boldin plays better than his weekly rankings and we expect him to give you around 9-10 FP against the Texans in Houston this week.

WR Willie Snead, NO

Willie Snead plays in the powerful Saints offense and offers a solid player to use at flex. With a 13-134-0 stat line the last two weeks, he has averaged 13 FPPG without even scoring a TD. This year he is a good player getting better. He has value in a PPR format and especially in dynasty leagues. He is someone to watch who is trending up.

We believe he will score around 9-10 points this week, even against the Seahawks. The Saints have too many weapons to shut them all down.

Page 19: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 19 www.FantasySharks.com

WR Michael Thomas, NO

Rookie Mike Thomas flashes signs of brilliance every time he takes the field. In his last two games he has averaged 21 FP with a 15-208-1 stat line. It is hard to believe that the Saints also have Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead as WRs. This offense is rock solid and it is no wonder that Drew Brees is once again being ranked near the top of the QB scoring leaders.

Expect Thomas to add 11-12 FP this week against a strong Seattle defense.

TE Gary Barnidge, Cle

With Kevin Hogan at QB this week, or even if Cody Kessler gets cleared with his concussion, the big TE Gary Barnidge will be a big part of the Browns offense. Over the last three games he has averaged 11 FPPG built on a 14-201-0 stat line. In this developing offense he is seeing lots of targets and is a great flex option.

Look for Gary Barnidge to be getting you about 8-9 FP this week at home against the NY Jets.

Love ‘em and Leave ‘em

A player here has some flex appeal, but you really only want him because of a favorable matchup this week. You will likely see some red warning flags as you approach. A background check may alert you to injury risks, his coach may favor someone else that is not even suiting up this week, etc., etc. But hey, you don’t want to consider marriage. A one week stand is all you need him for now. But over the long-haul, maybe, just maybe he could fit the bill for something long-term.

RB Mike Gillislee, Buf

With LeSean McCoy hurting, Mike Gillislee gets an opportunity to step up and show what he can do against the Patriots. Over the last three weeks he has accumulated 13-89-2 numbers, yielding a 7 FPPG average. McCoy leaves big shoes to fill and this game is a big one for the Bills.

The last time Gillislee played against the Pats, he scored 5 FP. We expect him to be good for about 11-12 FP this time playing a more prominent role.

WR Davante Adams, GB

Yes-no-yes-no… What do you do with Davante Adams? When he is scoring FP and playing like he is now, the answer is obvious—play him. Over his last three games he has amassed 20-251-3 numbers, a robust 21 FPPG average. With Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb not exactly getting any big points games, Adams has helped the Packers keep their heads above water offensively.

Yet, it is hard to trust him too much, but we expect him to score about 8-9 FP with a nice upside.

WR Alan Hurns, Jac

Page 20: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 20 www.FantasySharks.com

We are used to Hurns as a WR2, but now he has slipped to WR4, or a flex level. Sometimes we need to temper our enthusiasm and just play someone in the lineup slot they belong in, rather than one that demands more scoring punch. Tennessee has held Hurns to 5 FPPG in the last three matchups where he was the WR2.

He may actually do better being covered differently as a WR3 or 4 and being in our flex position. We are expecting him to get 8-9 FP in Nashville against the Titans.

Last Call

The bar is closing and you are so, so desperate. We have all been there at one time or another. A wasted draft choice is a scratch once again. Who can I add to my roster? Here we will give you a guy to start. He won’t be great and very seldom will he be even good. But this week this mutt of a player will give you at least something from the flex position.

WR Andrew Hawkins, Cle

With QB and WR injuries in Cleveland, Andrew Hawkins is back on the fantasy radar. While he is nowhere near being at the level talent wise of either Terrelle Pryor or Corey Coleman, he has produced 9-123-1 numbers (9 FPPG) over his last three games.

We expect him to garner you about 8-9 FP this week at home against the Jets.

WR J.J. Nelson, Ari

With Michael Floyd and John Brown playing erratically and Jaron Brown gone for the season, it is time for the speedy J.J. Nelson to step up. Playing in a reduced role in his last two games, he had a 5-100-0 stat line, or 9 FPPG. He has an opportunity now to play and earn himself more playing time, depending on how he does.

Look for about 7-8 FP with a lot more possible as the Cardinals play at Carolina, with their aching defensive backfield.

TE Kyle Rudolph, Min

The Vikings go to Chicago this week and Kyle Rudolph has been busy of late. In his last two games he has been targeted 15 times and has averaged 7 FPPG. While a 7-70-0 stat line is not impressive, it is good enough for a flex player.

Look for more of the same in Week 8 as Rudolph should score about 7-8 FP against the rapidly falling Bears.

Adrian Balboa

Page 21: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

To Rocky, she was the greatest, prettiest woman in the world. To the rest of us with discerning tastes perhaps not so much. In fantasy football there are players like that available all the time. While others are running away from a player and completely overlooking them is the time for you to swoop in and snap them up.

TE Jason Witten, Dal

Too old! Washed up? Not really… While he might have lost some of the exterior toughness, Jason Witten still has the finesse and moxie to give you a solid flex option. In his last two games he has a 7-85-0 stat line, which translates to 8 FPPG. He and Dak Prescott have developed a mutual trust and that bodes well for fantasy owners.

Against the Eagle this week, expect Witten to score about 7-8 FP.

TE Antonio Gates, SD

All the media buzz lately is about Hunter Henry, but Antonio Gates is still at least a viable flex option. With Henry being in the concussion protocol this week, Gates could see even more targets than he has lately. With Henry getting most of the glory recently, Gates still has accumulated an 11-84-1 stat line in his last three games. Even playing a secondary role, that amounts to 8 FPPG.

We expect Gates to give you around that 7-8 FP level against the Broncos in Denver in Week 8.

And there you have it—the Week 8 flex player recommendations. When you look at your lineup, view it as a combination of players designed to give you enough points not only to win this week, but enough to win each and every week and ultimately to win the league championship.

So, one more time—work hard each week to have the strongest lineup possible. Use your judgment to maximize your points based on the players you have. Work the waiver wire and seek out trades to give you the strongest roster you can have.

Your job is not done just because the draft is over and the season has begun. In fact things only get harder from this point on. Outwork your opponents and keep building your team from week to week.

Good luck! Have fun!

TEAM DEFENSE

Here’s what we think we know heading into Week 8: I’ve been banging the drum for the Philadelphia Eagles D/ST since they brought Jim Schwartz on board as defensive coordinator and they are on fire lately. In the past three games they have put up 10 sacks, 6 turnovers and scored 3 D/ST TDs. It’s been DE Connor Barwin leading the way but I see a big game for Fletcher Cox this week at Dallas as he’s due…A sneaky good start this week is the Cleveland Browns hosting the New York Jets and their dysfunctional offense. With Geno Smith gone due to an ACL injury it appears “The Amish Rifle” Ryan Fitzpatrick will be back under center (even though no one believes in him…wah…wah). That’s great news for a Browns D/ST that has put up 5 sacks and a pair of turnovers in the last 2 weeks…Despite the fact it appears that Justin Houston will sit out at least one more week we like the Kansas City Chiefs this week due to the matchup with the Colts. Andrew Luck has been sacked a league high 25 times this season and has thrown an interception in three of the last four weeks. Led by CB Marcus Peters the Chiefs have a league high 10 interceptions and have scored 3 defensive TDs. Look for the big plays to be there this week for the Kansas City D/ST.

Less Than 90% Owned Standout Team Defenses for Week 8*

*Ownership information based on ESPN standard leagues

New York Jets (@ Cleveland) – 18% owned. At this point there is a chance that rookie QB Cody Kessler misses this game as he is in the league protocol for concussions. Veteran Josh McCown is still dealing with a shoulder issue and is iffy to be able to play this week as well. That means rookie Kevin Hogan would get the start. In relief duty last week he was 12 for 24 for 100 yards and threw two interceptions. We like that.

Tennessee (vs. Jacksonville) – 35% owned. We will plain and simply chase the turnover prone Blake Bortles on a weekly basis. He has turned the ball over 11 times on the season including 4 in the last

Page 24: Web viewWhat? Stop laughing! I’m serious. Sure, Fitzpatrick may have been benched and the veteran isn’t on the best of terms with the Jets’ brass. However

two weeks. Tennessee continues to get consistent pressure on the QB racking up 14 sacks in the last three games. They will pressure Bortles into plenty of mistakes this week.

Tampa Bay (vs. Oakland) - 9% owned. The Buccaneers have been a big play producing D/ST of late having posted 8 sacks and 7 turnovers in their last three games. The Raiders will once again travel cross country which is always a concern. They have allowed 5 sacks and turned the ball over 3 times in the last three weeks. The Tampa D/ST will feast on some home cooking in Week 8.

Downside Team Defenses for Week 8:

Arizona (@ Carolina) – 96% owned. The Cardinals are coming off a very physical game against the Seattle Seahawks and the Panthers are coming off their bye week. The Panthers will be the fresher team and can’t continue to play as poorly as they have to date. When these teams met at Carolina in January (NFC Championship) the Panthers rolled up 476 total yards while turning the ball over only once and allowing one sack. This is going to be a high scoring affair and both defenses can be avoided.

Houston (vs. Detroit)-75% owned. Surprisingly the Lions offense is among the top-10 in allowing the fewest points to opposing D/STs. Since rediscovering WR Golden Tate as an offensive weapon two weeks ago the Lions are averaging 356 total yards per game and have scored 51 points. There’s a chance that rookie RB Dwayne Washington returns this week which would bolster the Detroit running game. The Texans are going to be hard pressed to shut down Matthew Stafford who has thrown 8 TDs without an interception in his last three games. With Tate back in the game plan Houston can’t sell out to stop deep threat Marvin Jones. There are better options than the Texans this week at D/ST.

INDIVIDUAL DEFENSIVE PLAYERS

Let’s take a look at the IDP landscape as we head into Week 8: If you look carefully at this week’s rankings you’ll see I love a pair of defensive lines. Linval Joseph, Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen have combined for 11 sacks this season and face the Bears this week. They will be in the face of a rusty Jay Cutler all night long on Monday…It’s clear by now that I have a man crush on the Philadelphia Eagles DL. After a pair of down games, I see Fletcher Cox having a big day against the Cowboys and rookie QB Dak Prescott. I also like Connor Barwin to have a nice game as he managed to post 2 sacks against Dallas last season not even playing the ‘Wide-9’ scheme… This should be the week that Rob Ninkovich and Jabaal Sheard pay dividends as the Bills have allowed an average of 3 sacks per game to DL over the last 3 games…Look for a bounce back week from Chargers LB Jatavis Brown after a paltry 2 total tackles performance last week as he faces the Broncos. When these teams met two weeks ago Brown put up 13 solo tackles along with a sack and forced fumble…There’s another rematch on tap as the Bills square off against the Patriots this week and we love Zach Brown. In the first game between these teams he racked up 18 total tackles as well as a sack and 2 forced fumbles. We like that…The Texans have allowed over 100 solo tackles to the LB position so we like Tahir Whitehead of the Lions. Over his last 3 games Whitehead is putting up top-5 LB numbers with 33 total tackles (25 solos) and 3 passes defended…Christian Kirksey should

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 25 www.FantasySharks.com

be in for a nice week against the Jets this week as 5 LBs have posted double digit tackles against New York. Expect another heavy dose of Matt Forte this week and nice tackle totals from Kirksey…A sneaky good DB play that cracks the top-30 in my rankings this week is DeShawn Shead of the Seattle Seahawks. He has put up 15 solo tackles and 4 passes defended in the last 2 games. As teams look to avoid Richard Sherman they tend to throw into Shead’s coverage. This week you can bet that Drew Brees will test Shead all day long leading to some big fantasy numbers…Karl Joseph should have a very nice week against a Tampa offense that has given up 185 tackles to DBs on the season…Jacksonville S Johnathan Cyprien has put up double digit tackle totals in 2 of the past 4 games including a 11 solo tackles performance last week. He will stay hot this week as Tennessee will pound the rock with DeMarco Murray…We like Kurt Coleman this week in a matchup at home against the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona has given up 172 solo tackles to DBs as well as 7 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles. Coleman will rack up nice tackle totals and have the opportunity for big plays.

Banged Up: Here are the primary concerns this week. As always keep in mind that this article heads to the editor Wednesday at 3:00 EST. It’s imperative to continue to check teams practice reports in case a player suffers a mid week injury or set back in recovery. With six teams on a bye this week the injury report is much thinner than usual.

DL- Muhammad Wilkerson missed Week 7 with an ankle injury so let’s keep an eye on practice reports out of New York this week…Jared Odrick continues to miss practice with a quadriceps issue…The Buffalo Bills are hopeful that DT Marcell Dareus (hamstring) will return to practice this week…It’s likely that both Shariff Floyd (knee) and Haloti Ngata (shoulder) miss Week 8.

LB- Brandon Marshall of the Broncos is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury. His teammate DeMarcus Ware is expected to resume practicing this week but will likely not see action until Week 9…Bruce Carter was forced from Week 7 with a quad injury…OLB Justin Houston is practicing but may be held out for one more week…Cardinals OLB Alex Okafor is out this week with a calf injury…Darron Lee is iffy to play this week after missing Week 7 with an ankle injury…Dannell Ellerbe (quadriceps) has returned to limited practice but is no lock to return this week.

DB- Perrish Cox will miss this week due to a concussion…Washington CB Josh Norman is in the league protocol for concussions…Andrew Sendejo was forced from last week with an ankle injury and is iffy to be ready for Week 8…Damarious Randall of the Packers is expected to miss a few

The Browns are expected to get Joe Haden back this week after he’s missed games due to a groin injury…Both Reshad Johnson of the Titans and Aaron Williams from Buffalo suffered neck injuries last week that may cause them to sit out a game…

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Julius Thomas (ankle)

The sputtering Jacksonville Jaguars offense is a complete mess. The ground game hasn’t gotten on track at all, and the aerial attack is falling apart. Despite a plus overall matchup against a solid but beatable Tennessee Titans defense, it’s hard to trust any Jaguars right now. Feeling lucky? Blake Bortles clearly isn’t playing well enough to exploit a Titans secondary that was gashed by Andrew Luck last week. Since the struggling Allen Robinson likely will match up against Jason McCourty, a rebound performance from A-Rob is unlikely. This gives Allen Hurns a decent chance to hit pay dirt. Marqise Lee, coming off a career-best outing, leads the team in catches and receiving yards. Since Robinson won’t be able to do much, look for another nice outing from Lee. Julius Thomas is legitimately questionable to play. He could surprise against a Tennessee defense that has given up the 11th-most fantasy points to the tight end position. The Titans have been solid against the run at home, so there’s no reason to expect much from the struggling T.J. Yeldon/Chris Ivory tandem.

Allen Hurns missed the contest due to a concussion.

Rashad Greene caught two passes for 15 yards and one touchdown.

Julius Thomas logged two receptions for 15 yards and one touchdown.

TENNESSEE TITANS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Delanie Walker (chest), Tajae Sharpe (knee)

The Tennessee Titans offense has been clicking nicely thanks to a very favorable string of soft matchups on their schedule, which will come to an end in Week 13. The must-start DeMarco Murray has either scored or racked up 100-plus total yards in every game played so far. Derrick Henry usually receives just half a dozen or fewer touches per contest and remains a non-threat to Murray’s workload. Marcus Mariota looks like a good-but-not-great play versus a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that ranks 19th in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position. The Jaguars, however, rank fifth in fantasy points ceded to opposing tight ends, which is why Delanie Walker likely will have a quiet game. Rishard Matthews and Kendall Wright are the only two fantasy relevant Tennessee wideouts right now, and they both come with risk – particularly Wright, who usually plays less than half the team’s snaps. The Titans team defense is a nice streaming option, and this stop unit should rebound from a dud outing against the Indianapolis Colts last week.

Jackson (shoulder)

The games played in London, England are usually hard to forecast, and the playing status of Jordan Reed is also adding to the difficulty of making predictions for the Washington passing attack. At last check, Reed had been cleared to practice, but that doesn’t guarantee that he’ll play. When a healthy Reed suits up, Kirk Cousins is usually solid. If Reed sits, Vernon Davis is a nice plug-and-play option against a Cincinnati Bengals defense that has yielded the seventh-most fantasy points to enemy

tight ends, but Cousins can still be trusted in this matchup. The Bengals, aside from a bad showing against the Denver Broncos wideouts in Week 3, have been solid against the wideout position, so look for moderate production from Pierre Garcon, Jamison Crowder and DeSean Jackson. It looks like Matt Jones’ workload will take a hit, because he has lost three fumbles in two games. This opens the door for passing-down back Chris Thompson to make some noise. He’s usually busy in road contests. If Jones’ knees are an issue, Rob Kelley could see some action.

INJURIES TO MONITOR: Jeremy Hill (shoulder/chest), Tyler Eifert (knee surgery, back)

The Cincinnati Bengals offense has flopped in three road games so far, but they’re playing this one in London, England against a not-so-tough Washington defense. It seems unlikely that Josh Norman (concussion) will receive medical clearance to play, which makes the matchups even better for the must-start A.J. Green, Brandon LaFell and Andy Dalton. LaFell has scored in three straight games, but his yardage has been moderate at best. Tyler Eifert played just 15 snaps last week. While his role should expand here, the Bengals likely will continue to ease him back into the mix slowly with a bye coming next week. In other words, don’t expect a big outing from Eifert. Washington ranks 23rd in fantasy points allowed to the running back position, so Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill both deserve fantasy RB3/flex consideration. Hill has disappeared in road contest this season, but Washington has been vulnerable to big backs.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Jamaal Charles (knees)

The Kansas City Chiefs use their ground attack to win games, but they don’t seem interested in using their passing attack very much at all. The backfield clearly belongs to the must-start Spencer Ware, who will shred an Indianapolis Colts defense that has coughed up the fourth-most fantasy points to the running back position. Jamaal Charles is now dealing with ailments in both knees and is starting to look like a lost cause. If you’re a Ware owner, you may want to invest in Charcandrick West. The Colts also have yielded the eighth-most fantasy points to the quarterback position and the eighth-most fantasy points to the tight end position, which is why the pedestrian Alex Smith-led aerial attack likely will generate a scoring grab for Travis Kelce. Jeremy Maclin could go off here, but there’s little reason to expect anything more than his usual moderate yardage with no score.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Phillip Dorsett (hamstring), Dwayne Allen (ankle),

Donte Moncrief (shoulder), Quan Bray (ankle – IR)

The Indianapolis Colts offense has racked up at least 26 points in all home games so far. Even though three of Andrew Luck’s last four starts have been road contests, the Colts triggerman has been playing very well. Luck has averaged 290.3 passing yards and 2.0 touchdown tosses per game, and he’s expected to get Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett back this week. Moncrief and the must-start T.Y. Hilton will do some damage to a Kansas Chiefs defense that has surrendered the most fantasy points to enemy wideouts. Dwayne Allen, however, is expected to stay on the injury shelf, so Jack Doyle will get the starting nod again. However, Kansas City has allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends, so lower your expectations for Doyle. The Chiefs have been up and down against the run, but workhorse Frank Gore should be good for at least moderate yardage.

The Arizona Cardinals are coming off an emotional and frustrating overtime tie and had to travel across the country to play this one. There’s one thing working in the Cardinals’ favor: the 2016 version of the Carolina Panthers defense is nowhere near as dangerous as the 2015 model. Even though the Panthers rank ninth in fantasy points ceded to enemy tailbacks, David Johnson remains a must-start in what has become a run-first Arizona attack. Carolina also ranks in the bottom 10 in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback, wideout and tight end positions (the Cardinals don’t use their tight ends), which sets up nicely for Carson Palmer. However, it’s hard to trust Palmer, who has tossed just two scores in his last four outings. Larry Fitzgerald is a strong play, but Michael Floyd has been quiet in road games so far this season. John Brown hasn’t scored this season. The Arizona team defense is a solid start.

Discussing all the reasons why the Carolina Panthers offense hasn’t been clicking is beyond the scope of my write-ups, but one thing is certain: a matchup with an elite Arizona Cardinals defense is probably the last thing Cam Newton and company needed despite coming off a bye. Arizona has yielded the fourth-fewest fantasy points to the quarterback position, but fantasy owners didn’t spend a high pick on Newton to park him on the bench. His upside is high as usual. The Cardinals rank ninth in fantasy points allowed to enemy wideouts. Even though Kelvin Benjamin usually lines up on the side of the field that’s opposite from Patrick Peterson, it would make sense for the Cardinals to have Peterson shadow the big wideout. Carolina’s other wideouts are dice rolls as usual, but, if you’re desperate, Corey Brown has been starting over Devin Funchess and Ted Ginn. Greg Olsen is a must-start as always. The Cardinals have ceded the fewest fantasy points to the tight end position, but Jimmy Graham is the only elite tight end that they’ve faced. Arizona ranks second in fantasy points given up to enemy tailbacks, so Jonathan Stewart is a weak play. The Panthers team defense is a fringe starting option in leagues that don’t penalize harshly for points allowed.

Assuming the Oakland Raiders aren’t looking ahead to their Week 9 clash with the Denver Broncos for AFC West division supremacy, the Silver and Black offense should make fantasy owners smile this week. Tampa Bay’s defensive statistics have been skewed downward because of a Week 7 outing against the San Francisco 49ers. The Buccaneers have been very soft against the pass. Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree are both strong plays. Derek Carr has averaged just 212 passing yards and one touchdown pass during the last two weeks, but Carr should break out of his mini slump here. Although Tampa Bay has been a little tougher against the run at home, the Bucs have still yielded the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing tailbacks. Latavius Murray operates in a committee, but he still has a good chance to score and amass moderate yardage. DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard are too unreliable to trust when the backfield touches are being split three ways.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Doug Martin (hamstring)

If the well-rested Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t light up a leaky Oakland Raiders defense at Raymond James Stadium, something is terribly wrong. The Raiders have yielded the seventh-most fantasy points to enemy quarterbacks and the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing wideouts, so Jameis Winston and the musts-start Mike Evans are both strong plays. Which wideout(s) will step up behind Evans? Good question. Career backup and special teams captain Russell Shepard logged five grabs for 77 yards and one score against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. Was it a fluke? I’m guessing no. Perhaps Cecil Shorts, who has experience at both the inside and outside wideout spots, will make some noise. Adam Humphries, however, will remain in the slot. Humphries has done very little since his 100-yard game back in Week 3. Cameron Brate has been quiet lately because the Buccaneers have been effectively pounding the rock with diminutive workhorse Jacquizz Rodgers. Since Oakland has coughed up the ninth-most fantasy points to the running back position, Rodgers looks like a nice start.

Last week the Seattle Seahawks played five full quarters to walk away only with a frustrating tie, and they had to jet from coast to coast to play this one. An emotional letdown is very likely, but the New Orleans Saints defense is very soft. New Orleans has allowed at least 35 points in three home contests. The Seahawks would love to pound the football with Christine Michael against a Saints defense that has hemorrhaged the most fantasy points to the tailback position, but road games have been kryptonite for Michael. If he can’t cobble together at least 80 rushing yards and a score, something is wrong. Russell Wilson, Doug Baldin and Jimmy Graham, who is making his return to the Big Easy, are all must-starts against a porous New Orleans secondary. Tyler Lockett is healthy again, but he has been a non-factor so far. The Seahawks defense is a starting option.

The Seattle Seahawks defense is an elite stop unit, but the New Orleans Saints fantasy stars are usually money in the bank when they play at home. Although the Seahawks have ceded the sixth-fewest fantasy points and only four touchdown passes to enemy passers, Drew Brees remains a must-start. Most expect Richard Sherman to shadow Brandin Cooks, even though the Saints move him around the formation. Willie Snead usually lines up in the slot, so he should avoid Sherman altogether. With Sherman likely chasing Cooks around, the red-hot Michael Thomas should rack up big numbers for the fifth game in a row. While Coby Fleener’s best games have come at home, the Seahawks rank sixth in fantasy points ceded to the tight end position. Seattle also ranks fourth in fantasy points allowed to opposing tailbacks, so expect a pedestrian effort from Mark Ingram.

INJURIES TO MONITOR: Theo Riddick (ankle), Dwayne Washington (foot/ ankle), Eric Ebron (ankle/foot)

The Detroit Lions are getting healthy, but this is making things complicated for fantasy owners and fantasy analysts alike. Theo Riddick and Dwayne Washington are both expected to return. While Riddick’s role as the team’s primary passing-down back earns him weekly flex consideration in PPR leagues, it’s hard to predict how the Lions will divvy up the early-down touches between Washington, Justin Forsett and Zach Zenner. The Houston Texans rank 22nd in fantasy points allowed to the running back position, so one or two of these runners could have a nice outing…but which one(s)? If I had to pick one, I’d say roll with Zenner. He’s likely to get the goal-line work, but don’t expect big yardage. The Texans, however, remain solid against the pass. They rank seventh in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks and fourth in fantasy points ceded to enemy wideouts. Lower your expectations for Matthew Stafford, but Marvin Jones is the favorite to catch a touchdown pass. Riddick’s return likely will hurt Golden Tate. Don’t get your hopes up for the returning Eric Ebron this week. Houston ranks sixth in fantasy points allowed to the tight end position.

HOUSTON TEXANS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Lamar Miller (shoulder), Jonathan Grimes (leg)

The Houston Texans offense took a beating from the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, but you need to put that shellacking in the rear view mirror. The Detroit Lions have hemorrhaged the most fantasy points to the quarterback position, so…as strange as it sounds…Brock Osweiler, who usually plays somewhat competently at home, is a solid start and deserves streaming consideration. Since Detroit also has yielded the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing wideouts, look for rebound outings from DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller. Wait! There’s more! Since the Lions have ceded the third-most fantasy points to the tight end position, this is as good a week as any to start C.J. Fiedorowicz. Even though Detroit ranks 11th in fantasy points allowed to enemy tailbacks, the Lions have been soft against the run on the road. On paper Lamar Miller is a solid start – assuming his shoulder isn’t an issue. If Miller is limited, he will split early-down work with Alfred Blue.

The Buffalo Bills have a good defense, but that stop unit isn’t going to receive much support from an injury depleted Bills offense. Oh yeah, the New England Patriots offense is operating at full strength and clicking on all cylinders. The Patriots are also mad about Buffalo shutting them out back in Week 4. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are must-starts as usual, but Martellus Bennett’s usage has dropped off sharply. Bench him until further notice. Although Julian Edelman has posted only moderate yardage and has gone scoreless so far in 2016, he matches up well with Buffalo. The Bills rank just 20th in fantasy points allowed to running backs, so it’s easy to envision LeGarrette Blount wearing them down in garbage time. There’s nothing like a matchup with the Cleveland Browns defense to temporarily cure what’s ailing an opposing offense. Since Cody Kessler is parked on the injury shelf and practice squad guy Kevin Hogan has been struggling with the playbook, a now-healthy Josh McCown is expected to get the start, which provides a nice boost for Terrelle Pryor against a New York Jets defense that has yielded the 10th-most fantasy points to enemy wideouts and has struggled against speedy deep threats. The Jets also rank just 21st in fantasy points ceded to the tight end position, so McCown favorite Gary Barnidge should have a nice game. The rest of the wideouts, however, are dice rolls. While having capable veteran McCown under center should help open up the ground game, New York has been very stingy against the run. Don’t expect much from Isaiah Crowell.

It’s the San Diego Chargers’ second clash with the Denver Broncos in the last three weeks. The Denver Broncos vaunted ground game finally got back on track Monday night, but the injury bug took a bite out of their backfield. With C.J. Anderson surprisingly sidelined for “at least a few weeks” or possibly longer, Devontae Booker will operate as the lead runner. Special-teamer Kapri Bibbs is expected to back him up. Booker is a strong play against a San Diego Chargers defense that has ceded the fourth-most fantasy points to enemy running backs. Back in Week 6, Trevor Siemian, who was coming off an injury layoff at the time, played poorly against the Chargers, but he’ll rebound nicely against San Diego’s still injury depleted secondary. Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas are both solid plays and the only Broncos receivers that deserve fantasy consideration right now. The Denver team defense is a must-start.

GREEN BAY PACKERS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Don Jackson (hand), Eddie Lacy (ankle), James Starks

(knee surgery), Jared Cook (ankle)

Last week the ground-game challenged Green Bay Packers piled up the points against the lowly Chicago Bears, and it looks like Aaron Rodgers, who notched his best outing of the season, is back on track. The Atlanta Falcons defense has coughed up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and ranks just 15th in fantasy points allowed to the wideout position, so Rodgers, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb are all must-starts. Davante Adams won’t catch 13 passes again like he did last week, but the Packers are throwing more than enough to support three wideouts. Staying on the subject of wideouts, PPR stud Ty Montgomery is expected to continue operating as Green Bay’s unofficial starting tailback. Knile Davis is still learning the playbook and shouldn’t be trusted in starting lineups right now. Practice squad guy Don Jackson won’t see enough action to deserve fantasy consideration.

ATLANTA FALCONS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Tevin Coleman (hamstring)

Even though the Atlanta Falcons offense looks a bit short on playmakers – at least on paper – this score unit continues to lead the NFL in total offense and scoring. The Green Bay Packers defense rolled up some skewed statistics against the Chicago Bears last week, because Chicago’s starting quarterback, Brian Hoyer, broke his arm. The Packers have been terrible against the pass, so Matt Ryan and Julio Jones are must-starts. Since Tevin Coleman isn’t expected to play, Mohamed Sanu could see a few extra targets come his way. Sanu deserves flex consideration in deeper leagues. The Packers come to town with the NFL’s best run defense, but the Packers have been vulnerable to quicker running backs. Don’t even think about benching Devonta Freeman, who will receive a huge workload in Coleman’s absence. Terron Ward is expected to backup Freeman, but Ward won’t see enough action to have standalone value.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES INJURIES TO MONITOR: Jordan Matthews (knee)

With the Philadelphia Eagles schedule getting tougher, rookie Carson Wentz has come crashing back down to earth following a great first month of the season. In his last two games, Wentz tossed just one touchdown pass and threw for less than 200 yards in both. Even though the Dallas Cowboys defense ranks 20th in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position, the struggling Wentz isn’t a recommended start. Slot wideout Jordan Matthews is the best bet for a score and a decent game. Dallas ranks only 16th in fantasy points ceded to opposing wideouts, but the Cowboys are far stingier to the position at home. The rest of the Eagles receivers are dart throws, and the team hasn’t used its tight ends consistently. Dallas has yielded the third-fewest fantasy points to enemy running backs, so consider all members of the Ryan Mathews/Darren Sproles/Wendell Smallwood trio to be weak starts.

All the Dallas Cowboys bye-week talk centered on Dak Prescott keeping the starting gig, but Ezekiel Elliott is the engine that drives the Dallas offense. Look for the rookie back to have a huge game against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that ranks just 16th in fantasy points allowed to enemy running backs. The Eagles, however, have yielded the fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and the sixth-fewest fantasy points to the wideout position, so don’t expect much from Prescott and Dez Bryant, who is expected to return. Since Cole Beasley operates in the slot against weaker cover corners, he’s the best bet for a score. Bryant’s return torpedoes Terrance Williams’ value. Philadelphia has yielded the third-fewest fantasy points to enemy tight ends, so look for yet another quiet game from Jason Witten.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Stefon Diggs (groin)

Following an embarrassing showing during a Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Minnesota Vikings want to get their offense back on track. While the injury troubled Chicago Bears defense plays its best at home, the Vikings won’t have to push too hard to rack up some points. The committee backfield has been shifting toward heavier usage for Matt Asiata. Jerick McKinnon hasn’t scored or amassed more than 45 yards in a game since Week 4. Asiata is a decent start even though the Bears have allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to enemy running backs. Park McKinnon on the bench if you haven’t already. Sam Bradford could light up a weak Chicago secondary if given the chance, but look for moderate yardage from him. The Bears have been steady against tight ends, which favors touchdown passes going to Stefon Diggs and the emerging Cordarrelle Patterson.

Minnesota Vikings Notes: Previous matchup: Last season (Week 15), the Vikings routed the Bears 38-17 in Minnesota.

Jerick McKinnon amassed a 7-10-0 rushing line and a 4-76-1 receiving line in a backup role.

Stefon Diggs caught three passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Kyle Rudolph made two grabs for 21 yards.

CHICAGO BEARS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Eddie Royal (toe), Jeremy Langford (ankle)

With just one win to hang their hats on, the struggling Chicago Bears continue to sink. There’s no real hope in sight for this group in 2016. A matchup against the elite Minnesota Vikings defense shouldn’t make you feel comfortable about starting any Chicago fantasy stars. With Brian Hoyer on the injury shelf, Jay Cutler is back under center, which obviously changes the passing flow. Cutler loves to throw to Alshon Jeffery, but his chemistry with Cameron Meredith is a question mark. While Cutler had targeted Zach Miller frequently in 2015, the Bears triggerman largely ignored Miller earlier this season. In the rushing department, Jeremy Langford was expected to return and further complicate a backfield that was slowly turning into a committee with Jordan Howard and Ka’Deem Carey. You’re smart enough not to start any Chicago runner against a Vikings defense that has yielded the sixth-fewest fantasy points to enemy tailbacks, but keep an eye on this trio to see how the Bears divvy up the touches.
