webinar 9 | dec-16 | solar powered agro processing machinery
TRANSCRIPT
WHO ARE WE?
• Project Support Services (PSS) established in Papua New Guinea in 2001
• Traditionally diesel agricultural machines and renewable energy – solar and biofuels
• Began working on concept to “solarise” micro-mills in 2014
• Based in Papua New Guinea and China
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
• The people living off-the-grid generally depend on agriculture for their livelihood – food and income
• For most, their best chance to earn money is to add value to their agricultural produce
• Their current options are limited:
• Manual food processing – labour intensive, low output
• Small diesel powered machines – expensive, failure prone
• Pay per use at larger diesel mills – high ongoing cost
WHAT WE DO
Manufacture a range of solar powered micro-mills for processing staple foods
• Powered by 24V DC motors
• Low maintenance
• Easy to use
• 2-4 year payback
• Meaningful electricity
WHERE ARE WE, WHAT’S NEXT?
• 1st generation machines – rice, corn, cassava, coconut, kava, coffee
• 280 machines sold in 2016, mostly PNG, Indonesia and Vanuatu
• 500 machine sales expected in 2017
• 2nd generation machines – 2017 field trials for rice, corn, cassava
• Custom designed for solar – i.e. efficiency a premium
• Smarter – PAYG ready
• Re-brand company 2017
• Establish East Africa base 2018
