Cloud enabling technologies (CET) encompasses the vital support system for a cloud environment, which includes the automaGon and management stack and security stack. It is our posiGon that server virtualizaGon itself is an enabler for cloud compuGng. It addiGon, what the broader industry terms ‘private clouds’ fall under the purview of our CET definiGon because this technology is installed, delivered and consumed on-‐premise and is not hosted by a third party.

Within CET, virtualizaGon—the foundaGon for cloud compuGng— accounts for the majority of total market revenue with a 66% share, but being the most mature segment, it has the lowest CAGR through 2016 at 16%.
Within the virtualizaGon stack, a 29% CAGR in I/O virtualizaGon and 24% CAGR in data and applicaGon protecGon are offset by the relaGvely mature and much larger server virtualizaGon segment, which we expect to grow at an 11% CAGR.
The automaGon and management sector, the largest in terms of vendor count, accounts for 32% of the market total and should see a healthy 28% CAGR.
VirtualizaGon security is the smallest segment with no single vendor dominaGng. It makes up only 2% of the CET space but has the highest CAGR through 2016 at 29%.
