A letter from Sandy Trakat Dear Homemakers Country Quilters , I really enjoy the monthly newsletters. Lay-out makes it very interesting and all the pictures, so I can see what you’re doing in Pa. I believe this was the first time I missed your quilt show which seemed very successful and a great turn out. I had planned a trip to South Africa for a big birthday gift for 2 weeks and it was in March. What did you charge for admission? My Md. Guild is having one in October and this is an issue. Hopefully, I will have a chance to attend a meeting during the next year. As a Charter member, it is hard to think the guild is 34 years old!!! Keep up the great work you all do. Happy quilting Sandee Trakat

Sad News Our Guild received news that Anna Jones passed away in May after a four year battle with leukemia. The family donated some of her stash, etc. to the 4 H and the guild. Most of her quilts were shared within the family.

Misplaced Binder Has anyone seen a binder with the program information in it? It was last seen at the tea. If you saw it or have it please contact Jane Humay.

FYI Hello, My name is Jennifer Skinnell, a quilter from Herndon, VA. I have also recently published my first novel, One Sweet Development, on Amazon. As a self-published author, I also have to do my own marketing. I’m writing you today to see if it would be possible to let your members know of my new book either through email, or in your newsletter? One Sweet Development is the first in my Hope Springs Romance Series about a group of women of all different ages who live in the small town of Hope Springs. It is a “clean and wholesome” contemporary romance! The ladies of the Advice Quilting Bee meet every Thursday night at Rosie’s Quilting Emporium to hand-quilt a quilt they have pieced for a deserving cause. While sitting around the quilting frame, the older ladies give advice about love, relationships and life to the younger members. One Sweet Development centers around Chandler, the town baker, and her budding relationship with Rosie’s grandson, Peter, who is a real estate developer. One Sweet Development is now available on Amazon.com in eBook ($2.99) or paperback ($7.99). If you go to my author page at www.amazon.com/author/jenniferskinnell you will find the link to purchase. You can also visit my website www.jenniferskinnellquilting.wordpress.com and click on the book cover on the right side of the homepage. I understand if this is not something you normally do, but thank you for the opportunity.

Quilt of Many Colors was like a well run cruise through a sea of wonderfully created fabric art. It seemed like a group of workers were gliding around the show guiding the public seamlessly. Smiles and cheery greetings started at the admissions table and continued throughout the rest of the show. The show chairs held a thank you luncheon at the feedback meeting in June. The food and conversation were superb with very little negative comments. Some great suggestions were offered for the next show. By the looks of the fat binders full of information for the 2019 and the amount of people who indicated they would return to their positions, 2019 will equal or surpass the previous shows.

Past and Present joined in a picture Evelyn McAdam is pictured here with her quilt that was entered in the 2017 quilt show. It is one of a pair that she worked on for over 10 years. The other one has been finished and resides on a bed. This one waited for a few years for the top to be quilted. Since Evelyn no longer has room to do quilting, Anne Fisher did the beautiful hand stitching on this quilt. As usual with all of Evelyn’s quilts, it is hand pieced and hand appliquéd. The unique buttons in the center of the flowers were gathered from friends and family and come from all over the world. Evelyn has been quilting since she was eight years old. She just turned 93. She joined our Guild at the third meeting. While she admires the quilts of today, she laments that we are losing the art of handwork in today’s machine world. She says she is impressed by the abilities of our group and how they have grown through the years. Evelyn and the other nonagenarians in our Guild provide a wonderful backbone for the group and enable us to keep moving in a world of quilting that they never imagined.
