About iWeb

iWeb is a template based website creation tool made my Apple. It allows users to make blogs and websites relatively easily, and also allows them to incorporate a limited number of widgets, such as Youtube/Google Maps.

The reason I chose iWeb instead of Rapid weaver, is that the website creation process is much simpler. My Client, Shireen Nashrulla, wanted the website to be very simple, as her company is not well known and they do not have the budget to maintain a Website with such complex features as Rapid weaver.

In this presentation, each slide has a screenshot showing the development of the website, as well as a few sentences and annotations to show the examiner I have used the program to its full capacity.

Step 1- Creating the Website, using Templates

I selected the templateFORMAL, as it was onethat fit with my client’sdesign expectations.

That is the image of thetemplate before editing. Apples incorporatedimages will be replacedby the images I edited using Photoshop. I put in a title, as well as the NASH TRAVELSlogo.

Editing the Home Page for the Website

I then began to insert my own photos by linking it to the iPhoto widget, selecting photos from my iPhoto even gallery, and inserting them into the appropriate places in the website. I also inserted my own text, taken from the information booklet my client sent me.

Creating a New Page

Next, I went to Insert- New Page- About Me Template, and changed the page title to General Information, and the page name to “Getting There”. I inserted my own picture, and added the appropriate text. I arranged the text in a different way to the homepage, to give each page variety. I also changed colors using the font/colors tool.

Inserting new Page: Blank

I then inserted a blank page. Inorder to add textto the page, you have to insert the textboxes using theText tool on the bottom bar. The colors of the text can be edited using the Font tool, also on the bottombar.

Advanced Features on iWebChanging thebackground of animage is changingthe template, which is somewhat an advanced feature on iWeb. To do this, I went to View- ShowInspector- Page- Layout, and changed the background color of the image to Dark Blue, as it contrasted well with the fonts I used.

Editing Images on iWeb

Although I had previously edited this image on Photoshop, I wanted to edited the photo again as it didn’t turn out right. To to this, I went to View- Adjust, and changed the contrast, saturation and tinting of the image until I was satisfied with the final product.

Advanced Feature: Unconstraining Proportions

A problem I had experience using iWeb was that all the photos proportions were constrained. This was a problem, as some images did not fit correctly. IN order to rectify this, I went to View- Show inspector- Images- Unconstrained Proportions. I also adjusted the amount of pixels perwidth and height so that images had a clean finish.

Inserting Slideshow Page

On the tourist reviewpage, I added in photosand then put in a slideshow button, so the photos can be viewed as a slideshow if the viewer prefers. People who use the same hosting network can also subscribe to that page, and will be updated as to any changes or developments on it.

Beginning the Publishing Process

I went to File- PublishEntire site. I selected to put it in a local folder, which is my desktop- I names my site, and put in the contact email for the website.

I then pressed publish site, and allowed iWeb to create the pages and put the website folders on my desktop, as well as the index.html.

Website before change of URL

I copied the website link into theweb browser.

I checked all the pages, and everypage worked: therewere no spelling mistakes, therforeno changes wereneeded to be made.

However, the URL was too long, so I wanted to change it.

Changing the domain name

I wanted to mask the domain name: I Went to dot.tk, a website where you can maskdomain names for free. I then inserted my wanted domain name, luxuriousladakh, and the website created the domain for me with a .tk home.
