Pecans and cupcakes and gummy bears, oh my!

For those with a sweet tooth, Christmas is the time of year when visions of sugar plums and other sinfully delicious confections dance in their heads.

‘Tis also the season to forget about calories and indulge your friends and family members with a box of their favourite chocolates, cakes or candies.

From mom ‘n’ pop bakeries to a world-class chocolate store and old-English candy shop, treats for the sugar momma or poppa on your list abound on the Peninsula.

Over at Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut there are plenty of guilty pleasures that will satisfy any choc-o-holic’s cravings.

Choose from chocolate-coated hazelnuts, pretzels, biscuits, nut nibbles, almond bark, coffee and more.

Available only during the Christmas season and a favourite at this chocolate shop are their heavenly hand-dipped cherries.

Roman conquerors, Greek citizens and Chinese noble folk all enjoyed the ruby-red colour and tangy taste of the cherry, and the Japanese skip school and work to enjoy the brief cherry-blossom season. For your own little escape, these hand-picked, organic cherries from B.C. (step one

of eight: marinate in Kirsch for five months) are dipped in pure Bernard Callebaut semi-sweet chocolate with fondant sugar and maraschino flavour. Choose from two sizes. Be warned,

they sell out fast.

Another popular festive treat at Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut is a Chocolate

Yule Log. Christmas isn’t Christmas without friends, sharing and special treats, and Bernard’s Chocolate Yule Log is only available for Christmas. Available in your choice of pure milk or semi-sweet chocolate

shells, this decadent treat comes filled to the brim with Bernard’s selection of individual chocolates (16, 24 or 35).

Having a difficult time deciding between dark or milk, fruit or nuts?

The shop’s Ballotin Box is a traditional pick and will have all your bases/senses covered. This European copper foil box, available in several sizes from 15 chocolates (an intimate treat) to 65 chocolates (a friends and family celebration). Each size of Bernard’s selection includes an assortment of milk, dark and white

chocolates with fruit, nut and ganache fillings.

Sweet Escape is a new hot spot for the sweet tooth as it carries a wide range of sinful sweets

from traditional favourites of yesteryear like licorice pipes and salt water taffy to velvety smooth delights that melt in your mouth and sensational sours and fizzies that will blow your mind.

With its nostalgic old-English style setup and whimsical charm, it’s a feast for all your senses.

But be warned, says Eva Buller-Kleefman, who owns the store with husband Dan and daughter Jazzie – you’ll turn into a big kid the second you step inside the colourful candy cornucopia.

“It tends to bring out the child in everyone,” said Buller-Kleefman of the candy store that opened its doors last fall. “We recently had a 94-year-old woman who came in and her eyes lit up when she saw that we had licorice pipes – the same candy she loved as a child. We get that a lot, everyone who comes in leaves happy – it’s impossible not to.”

For a feast for the eyes and the soul, Buller-Kleefman recommends Rogers’ Chocolates’ six piece milk and dark assortment chocolates, delicious confections that come beautifully packaged in a tin painted by a local artist.

Another local treat, she says is sure impress is the Ice Wine Truffles. Rogers Chocolates has partnered with Ganton and Larsen Prospect Winery to create these decadent delicacies – the perfect marriage of gourmet chocolate ganache, paired with smooth B.C. icewine.

And if chocolate doesn’t tickle their taste buds, a gift

that would make any sweet tooth happy is a custom-made candy bouquet or candy wreath.

“You can choose whatever candy you want and we’ll turn it into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind gift,” said Buller-Kleefman who just finished making a Watkins Toffee wreath.

At Hillcrest Bakery owner Vanessa Heywood has been busy filling holiday orders, such as their festive fruit cake.

“This is one fruit cake that actually gets eaten,” said Heywood of the popular goodie made from scratch the same way since 1972.

“We do random-size pieces iced with or without our own marzipan, which is made in the store. Both are made with lots of fruit and raisins.”

For the kiddies, Heywood suggests Hillcrest Bakery’s iced cookies, which come in a variety of festive shapes such Christmas trees, snowflakes as belles.

“These cookies are made from scratch, decorated by hand with fondant icing and royal icing in the bakery by Robyn and myself. They make great gifts for adults too as they are as good to eat as they are to look at.”

And what’s their most famous goodie of all? Even Rudolph himself would have to say it’s their mince tarts.

“These make really popular hostess gifts,” said Heywood. Heywood.

“They come in a box of six or can be purchased individually.”

Another hot spot worth checking out is Notti Biscotti.

The unique bakery uses all natural ingredients, without preservatives and uses only the best chocolate. Owner Shelley Quesnel has given each of her exotic crispy creations a fun, cheeky name like her Coco Loco, Wicked Will and Fireman’s pole.

6 - Peace Arch News LAST MINUTE GIFT GUIDE Wednesday, December 15, 20106 - Peace Arch News LAST MINUTE GIFT GUIDE, Wednesday, December 15, 2010

With time running out to finish last-minute shopping, stress can come

in many forms – long lines, grouchy shoppers and unavailable parking.

But for many, buying presents is the least of their worries. For some, it is not even an option.

There are needy families on the Peninsula who simply can’t afford to place any gifts under the tree.

That’s why the Salvation Army in White Rock is urging people to help those in need have a memorable holiday season.

To help spread Christmas cheer, Sally Ann volunteers are looking for donations from the community of newly bought presents or monetary donations to fill their Christmas hampers, said Naomi Dalley, corps officer of the WR Salvation Army.

“At this point (as of Dec. 5) we have 70 families, and upwards of 150 children registered – a number we are expecting to climb in the next week or so,” said Dalley, who noted a slight increase this year, possibly a result of the recession.

“We’re definitely seeing a lot of different faces this year.”

While clients of the Salvation Army come from all walks of life, Dalley said many don’t realize this group includes seniors on fixed incomes, the working poor and families where one or both parents have been laid off.

“It’s no longer just the typical single female with one or more children who needs a helping hand… there really is no one definition of what a family-services client looks like. Even by looking at clients, you can’t necessarily tell they are in need.”

In assembling the hampers, Dalley said, she and her team of volunteers try their best to fill them with gifts for the children and their parents that will make their day memorable.

“It’s about putting together something that will bring each child that sense of magic that everyone wants on Christmas Day.”

Every year, the community has stepped up to the plate to support the Salvation Army holiday hamper program, said Dalley.

And she predicts this year will be no exception.

“I’m always very pleased with the support we receive from the community year-to-year. My only concern at present is meeting the needs of different categories, such as teenagers. They can be harder to buy for,” said Dalley, noting that video games, chapter books, popular music, high-tech gadgets, cosmetics, and DVDs are always appreciated for that age group.

Gift ideas for children and younger people could include sports equipment, toys, CDs, toiletries, puzzles, or action figures.

For older people, donations of photo frames, ornaments, jewelry, chocolates, perfumes or toiletries are always welcome.

Donations for the holiday hampers be dropped off at the

Toy Gift Box inside Semiahmoo Shopping Centre (next to Cobs Bread) or at the WRSS Salvation Army office, located at 882 Maple Street, Mon to Fri from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gifts ideas for the gal who has it allDiamonds aren't her only best friend

The final days of holiday shopping have crept up on us; and the

shopping malls are a zoo and parking lots packed.

But unless you want to disappoint the special lady on your list, now is the time to chin up and face the merry madness.

Fellas, we know it can be overwhelming to pick out the perfect gift for your wife or girlfriend, especially when your better half says “just surprise me.”

That’s why we’ve scoured the shops high and low for the latest must-have items to help make your Christmas morning together one she’ll remember.

Jewelry is always huge this time of year, and makes a great last-minute gift that will be cherished for years to come.

Luckily, you don't have to break the bank for a little bling that will make her heart sing.

Heart’s Desire is one of White Rock’s best-kept secrets for stunning hand-made costume jewelry. Not only is this one-of-a-kind jewelry pleasing to the eye, it's easy on the wallet.

With prices ranging from $6 to $100 (around $35 for a complete set), you’re sure to find something to put a sparkle in her eye and around her neck.

Not sure whether she’ll like gold, silver, turquoise or pearls?

Owner/jewelry designer Valerie Crump said she can help you find the right pieces to suit your lady's taste and your budget.

“We know it can be a little overwhelming so we make it very comfortable for the men,” she said.

“We want to sell people stuff they are going to wear and enjoy rather than just make a sale.”

In addition to all that glitters, most women love soft, luxurious fabrics and fashion-forward accessories.

Over at Warren Boutique, you’ll find a selection of both.

With Jack Frost nipping at our necks, owner Arrianne Morgan said their Italian linen Love Quote scarves are one of their hottest selllers.

“These are very soft and come in some beautiful colours – each has a 'love quote' on it,” she said noting that 10 per cent of sales go to an international children’s charity.

Morgan suggests pairing the scarf with a Free People slouch tuque.

“This is the new way to wear a tuque,” she said.

“Slouch the extra fabric to the back to reduce hat head.”

Free People also makes over-the-knee socks to keep her feet toasty and stylish.

"They look great with boots and a sweater dress or over skinny jeans with tall boots," said Morgan.

Another popular pick, according to Morgan is their Hanky Panky underwear – a favourite of talk-show host Kelly Ripa.

“These are super comfy and sexy. If she isn’t already addicted she will be.”

Tis the season to raise your glass with loved ones and toast family

and friendship.Whether you’re looking

for a bottle of bubbly to celebrate with guests or the perfect red or white to serve with Christmas dinner, the opportunity for wine lovers to quench their thirst abounds on the Peninsula.

Everything Wine Inc. is your one-stop-shop for a large selection of delicious vino from all over the world as well as a variety of local varieties.

For the wine connoisseur on your list who has been especially deserving this year, Rob Carras of Everything Wine recommends Duckhorn Napa’s 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon for $87.99.

“Aromas of ripe currant, spearmint, marzipan and tobacco lead to intense flavours of blackberry and black cherry, all supported by a subtle framework of French oak, which adds nuance,

depth and dimension to the finish,” he said.

And if it’s a Chardonnay lover on your list? Carras suggests the Chalone Vineyard Estate Grown 2008 Chardonnay, which sells for $28.99. “This wine is very burgundian, with complex melon, fig, tangerine and

light toasty oak, full-bodied, deep and concentrated, yet light on its feet.”

Perfect for a cold winter night by the fire with friends and family is Everything Wine’s exclusive 2007 Perrin & Fils Cotes Du Rhone Villages for $23.99

Made up of 50 per cent grenache and 50 per cent

syrah, its gorgeous plum and black cherry aromas and flavours with enticing spice will tickle your taste buds.

“This is the perfect red wine for your turkey dinner or as a gift for the host,” said Carras.

“It will cellar for the next seven years.”

Another wine perfect for the holidays, according to Carras, is the Blue Mountain Vineyard Brut, which sells for $29.99.

“The Brut Gold Label has a fine mousse, with lemon and toasty character on the nose and across the palate, with a crisp lemon finish,” he said, noting that the blend is made up of 47 per cent pinot noir, 47 per cent chardonnay and six per cent pinot gris.

Tinhorn Creek Gewurztraminer 2009 for $18.99 is another popular pick at Everything Wine for its beautiful nose of tropical fruits, lychee and flowers.

“This wine is perfectly balanced with a little bit

of sweetness that will compliment both turkey and ham,” said Carras.

In addition to their selection of everyday, affordable wine, Everything Wine carries a selection of big ticket bottles, such as the 2005 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, which sells for a whopping $1099.99.

“This is definitely the Ferrari of wines,” said Carras of the bottle ripe with currants, berries and minerals with a light toasted oak on the nose.

“It’s full-bodied and very refined with lots of silky tannins and a long finish.”

Another hot spot to find the perfect bottle of wine is Mud Bay Wines.

Their inventory of wines consists of more than 600 varieties of B.C. wine along with glassware, decanters, wine aerators, cork screws, cookbooks, wine books, cheese, savoury food items, crackers, chocolates, wine bags, gift baskets, gift certificates and more for the wine lover on your list.

Selection of fine wines abound on Peninsula

The season's hottest gifts for menThink outside the box to scratch 'most challenging person to shop for' off your list

Every year it’s the same problem; what do you buy for the guy who

has everything? You know he’s good on ties, has a full drawer of socks and isn’t all that big on bling, so where do you even begin?

To help you scratch 'the most challenging person to shop for' off your list, we’ve tapped into the male mind to provide a bevy of fun and inspiring holiday gift ideas sure to knock last year's Christmas socks off.

It’s no secret that most men love high-tech gizmos and gadgets. And with advancing technology, there’s always something new they’re pining for.

At Ayreborn Audio and Video, you’ll find plenty of electronic and gadget ideas for under the Christmas tree. With the sales of home

entertainment systems at an all-time high, it's no wonder big-ticket items like the Sonos Multi-Room Music System, which sells for $899, continue to top wish lists, according to Ayreborn owner Bryan Ayres.

"It lets you play all the music you want, all over

your house – from the bedroom to the backyard – and control it all from the palm of your hand," said Ayres. "It’s the first wireless multi-room music system of its kind and it’s going to change the way you listen to music at home."

With iPods as popular

as ever, Ayreborn also has a number of docks and speakers to choose from.

A hot-ticket item from Yamaha is a desktop iPod dock with speakers built in and clock radio.

"At just $299, they're selling pretty fast," said Ayrebon of the dock, rated as the ultimate iPod sterio by several magazines.

With more people getting into vinyl, record players have made a huge comeback, according to Ayres, who recommends the Music Hall mmf 2.2 limited-edition turntable, on sale until Dec. 23 for $499.

"This is a great buy as it has a two-speed belt-driven audiophile turntable with special Ferarri red plinth at a budget price."

While a lot of men love the thrill of the hunt, that’s

not always the case when it comes to shopping for clothes. As long as you stay true to their personal style, a gift of fashion is always appreciated.

Extreme Clothing has a huge selection of popular skate, surf and snowboard apparel, including hoodies, t-shirts, jackets, jeans and shoes.

And if clothes won't make the cut, a great gift idea that will have him looking and feeling his best is a gift certificate for a Hot Towel Shave and Facial at Menzone in South Surrey.

Hot towels, followed by a traditional shave will start this indulgence, joined with a cleanse, exfoliation, extractions (if needed), masque and eye treatment.

Next he’ll be soothed by

Bryan Ayres, owner of Ayreborn Audio, takes a spin at the Music Hall turntable.

A hot-ticket item sure to delight the high techie is the Yamaha iPod dock with built-in speakers and radio.

Brian Giebelhaus photoLois Grout of Shoppers Home Health takes a break to test a few gift ideas for seniors, such as their lift lounge chair and step machine.

Thoughtful gifts for grandma and grandpaThe holiday shopping season

has returned, and legions of holiday shoppers are heading

for the mall to hunt for that perfect gift. When it comes to Christmas shopping lists, many friends and family members are a breeze to shop for. Is there an ardent sports fan in the family? Tickets to a ballgame will likely be a home run. Need to find something for the family film buff? A few of his or her favourite DVDs should suffice.

But as easy as some people are to shop for, there’s always a person or two who’s nearly impossible to find something for.

One group that many people find particularly difficult to shop for is the young at heart.

Unlike kids who would enjoy the

newest video game or a gadget-crazy adult who just wants the latest must-have appliance, senior citizens are often more difficult to shop for.

That might be due in part to seniors living on fixed-incomes or seniors who might no longer be physically capable of participating in their favourite activities. However, there are gift ideas that can still strike a chord with grandma or grandpa and ensure their holiday is just as enjoyable as everyone’s.

• Gift of mobility/convenienceOver at Shoppers Home Health,

one will find a variety of gifts for the elderly grandparent to assist him/her in their day-to-day living.

For group gifts (for example when several family members would like to go together on the purchase) popular options include lift chairs (multi-positional chairs that help a person sit, stand, recline), or bath lifts (that sit in a bathtub with options to lower, lift and recline a person in the bathtub).

Both use a convenient hand control to manipulate them and range in price from around $799.99 to $1699.99, depending on style and model chosen.

For smaller items, hot gift items at Shoppers Home Health include a swivel seat and handi-bar combo set called Automobility Solution (on sale for Christmas for $39.99) that aids in making an easier transition getting in and out of a vehicle; Bed Buddies – warming foot booties and mittens with aromatherapy, which can be heated in a microwave to warm and sooth hands and feet (there is a cozy shoulder cape model too).

For travellers, there are the suction-cup grab bars (they can be thrown in a suitcase for the cottage,

relative visit, cruise, snow birds) to provide safety wherever you are. These run $29.99 to $169.99 each depending on the size, style and brand chosen.

There are also a great variety of stocking stuffers in the independent needs section such as elastic shoe laces, button-holer, reachers, sock-aids (to pull on socks), extra-long shoe horns, jar openers and more.

• Give a night out on the town. Many seniors live on fixed incomes, which greatly reduces the amount of money they have available for nights out. That can make a night out on the town especially meaningful.

Include dinner at Deluxe Restaurant and theatre tickets for an upcoming play at the Coast Capital Playhouse.

Include yourself in the night’s festivities if you haven’t been able to spend much time with Mom and Dad or grandma and grandpa lately.

For seniors, a special night out on the town with loved ones is likely to be far more memorable than you might think.

There’s no doubt that pets bring unconditional love and

happiness into the lives of their owners.

Whether it’s a cat, dog, goldfish or hamster, from the time you bring it home, they are truly a member of the family.

That’s why many will hang Fido and Fluffy’s stockings on the fireplace and even leave a few treats for their furry friends under the tree.

The Luxe Dog Boutique and Salon opened two years ago, specializing in goodies and grooming services for dogs.

For the little doggie on your list, Luxe Dog’s chaise lounge bed is the ultimate in luxury.

Made in the U.S., these satin and velour beds come in pink or blue with a removable pillow.

Luxe also offers a wide range of collars, leashes and harnesses in varying prices, from cheap and cheerful to elegant and moderately

expensive. Whether it's for the

discriminating diva or the rough-and-ready rover, there’s something for every pup. The Buddy Belt is Luxe Dog’s most popular item in the harness category.

Its unique patented design reduces stress on the pet’s neck and is easy to use.

Made in Canada, these harnesses are very fashionable and highly functional.

For the chic canine, Luxe

Dog carries a selection of doggone adorable outfits such as rain jackets, hand-knit sweaters, parkas, evening dresses, boots and mittens that will have him or her the bark of the town.

A gift sure to please the dog owner as well as their precious pooch is a trip to Luxe’s salon for their bath or full groom special.

South Point Pet Hospital is another popular destination to find gifts for the pampered pet and their owners.

In addition to its full-service veterinary hospital – which provides all aspects of veterinary care –South Point Pet also offers luxury vacation pet boarding, a you/bath, we/bath facility and premium pet food, toys and accessories.

For those overwhelmed by the selection, a gift certificate for pet owners is always a safe bet, as it can be used towards merchandise or any service, including medical exams.

Raising hope'Tis the season for good-

will for all, including our four-legged furry friends.

Until the end of December, South Point Pet Hospital, located at 2828 152 St., will be collecting donations for three local rescues that are all run by volunteers – HugABull, Little Paws and Katie’s Place.

The public can help these rescues by com-ing into South Point Pet Hospital and purchasing (by donation) a dog bone that will be displayed in the clinic over the holi-day season. All donations will be matched by South Point Pet Hospital.

The local vet is also collecting contribu-tions for their Christmas hampers for the rescues, which are always in need of items such as food, leashes, crates, toys, blankets, beds and har-nesses.

Peace Arch News LAST MINUTE GIFT GUIDE, Wednesday, December 15, 2010 - 31Peace Arch News LAST MINUTE GIFT GUIDE, Wednesday, December 15, 2010 - 31

For those with globetrotters on their holiday gift list, finding the right travel-related gift can

make even the longest of layovers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of airports, security and long baggage claim lineups.

Going Places has everything you need and more for anyone who has been bitten by the travel bug.

Owner Sheila Way offers the following ideas to gifters looking to make their loved one’s travels less troublesome:

• Help friends and family protect their valuables.

Luggage often gets battered and bruised when travelling, and business travellers typically go through luggage more quickly than most.

But luggage doesn’t have to take such a beating, no matter how hectic a business traveller’s schedule may be.

For the on-the-go business pro, check out Going Places’ Verb Collection of brief cases from Briggs & Riley. Made from heavy-duty nylon with contrast colour stitching, this line features on-the-go organization: organizer with padded pockets for gear, padded

laptop compartments, and multiple pockets, zippers and holders.

When it comes to luggage, go light and get going with the Transcend Line, also by Briggs & Riley. Stylish, relaxed, and eminently packable, this luggage adapts to any destination.

The collection-wide features include ergonomic TPR-covered zippers with soft rubber grip for easy gliding; neoprene handles for a comfortable grip and easy carrying; and magnetic luggage tag that keeps personal info out of sight.

Both the Transcend Duffels and Uprights sport wheels with oil-infused bushing for quiet, easy motion, and with durable cushioned wheel exterior for protection. • Go with a gift card. Gift cards remain an ideal fallback option for gift-givers who are puzzled about what to get that one stickler on their holiday list every year.

However, as impersonal as gift cards may seem to some, business and recreational travellers often welcome gift cards with open arms, especially if the cards are from Going Places.

Briggs & Riley luggage or a cuddly neck pillow are just a couple of great gifts at Going Places, as shown by Karen Way.

Enhance their travel experiencePlenty of gifts to delight the globetrotter

When it comes to shopping for the mother-to-be,

many shoppers look for presents with only baby in mind. But with all of the physical and hormonal changes pregnant women undergo, Christmas is the perfect time to give them some attention too. While wine is definitely

out of the question, there are plenty of unique gift ideas sure to please the expectant mom.

Help the mom-to-be on your list keep up her healthy, radiant glow with a trip to the spa.

Many

day spas, including Casbah Day Spa, offer specialty packages geared towards the expectant mom.

For skin as soft as a baby’s bottom, Casbah’s Smoothie treatment is a necessity for delicate skin undergoing the changes of pregnancy.

This full-body treatment includes a head-to-toe cream pumice body exfoliation, followed by a luxurious hydrating lotion application.

Casbah’s Yummy Mummy package is also sure to bring welcome relief for her changing body, stresses and strains.

The 40-minute Free Loader Massage and their signature Casablanca Pedicure with added warm stone foot and leg massage will leave her feeling rejuvenated and relaxed.

Another little bundle of joy sure to delight the expectant mom is a copy of The Gourmet Pregnancy Cookbook by Leah Douglas, available at Baby Cheeks.

Filled with easy gourmet recipes and beautiful photography that celebrates

the changing bodies of pregnant women, The Gourmet Pregnancy will

help you or a woman you care about shed worry and stress, tackle cravings wisely, and indulge in nourishing self-care and delicious eating.

A precious keepsake gift great for moms is Baby Cheeks' Mommy Charms.

The sterling silver necklace comes with a medallion inscribed with your child’s name and birthday by the artist.

A popular pick over at Black Bond Books inside Semiahmoo Shopping Centre is the bible of baby books, What To Expect When You Are Expecting by Heidi Murkoff, which has been a best seller for the past 25 years.

Now available is the Fourth Edition, a new book for a new generation of expectant moms featuring a new look, a fresh perspective, and a friendlier-than-ever voice. It’s filled with the most up-to-date information reflecting what’s new in pregnancy.

Ideal gifts for the expectant mom

Gift of memories just a click away

With the holidays just around the corner, the staff at Foto Source often

get asked what the photographer in the family can use to increase his or her photographic skills and add to their gadget bag.

As a local leader in retail photographic sales and service, Foto Source has served the Peninsula and surrounding areas for more than 40 years.

Whether your recipient is just starting out or is a more serious photographer, Foto Source is the place for local knowledgeable service and quality products at nationally competitive prices.

For the serious shooter, owner and photo expert Terry Ross is always quick to recommend a good gadget bag like the LowePro Slingshot or Kata 3-in-1 bags that look like small backpacks and carry the camera body, several lenses, flash and many accessories.

For smaller items, Ross suggests the Gary Fong collection of flash accessories including the Puffer that diffuses the built-in flash on the camera or the LensPen

selection of lens and sensor cleaners.

For the point-and-shoot photographer, he recommends a very versatile item – the Gorilla flexible minipod or a camera strap with a quick release carabineer.

And don’t forget a small padded case that will protect the camera and the LCD screen.

There are also items that range from small

rechargeable lights for those cameras that now shoot video, to light reflectors and full lighting kits

for portraits. There is also a great

range of tutorial DVDs available from ones that are specific to a certain

camera model to those that deal with the novice photographer, like Digital 101.

For those people who

like a little more

individual instruction, Foto Source also offer classes on digital imaging on a variety of subjects.

Any photographer can use a CardSafe that holds extra memory cards and protects them from damage, and don’t forget to buy an extra card or a tripod to take all those great holiday pictures.

For the photographer who already has hundreds of negatives and slides from their pre-digital days, there are two models of Optex Digital Scanner that will make short work of turning those old images into digital files to be be viewed and edited on their computer screen.

Also don’t forget the old classic standards of a photo album or an enlargement of a favourite photograph mounted in a picture frame.

You can also make use of your photos by mounting them on the face of a clock, or drop by Foto

Source to have a photo expert create a custom photo coffee mug, mouse pad, jigsaw puzzle,

Christmas ornament or many other individual items.

Along with Santa Claus, rum and eggnog and Rudolph, Christmas stockings are a

staple of the festive season. While it's always fun to give and

receive the big-ticket items under the tree, often times the smaller gifts stuffed into stockings can be just as much fun to give – not to mention more affordable.

From the fun and silly to functional trinkets, stocking stuffers are always appreciated by the young as well as the young at heart.

With its unbeatable selection of affordable, one-of-a-kind goods, Deals World is your one-stop-shop to help you get those holiday stockings sufficiently stuffed.

One of the most popular stocking stuffers for both genders is toiletries for their size and price tag.

At Deals, you'll find Tag Body Spray for Men for $1.98, as well as Axe Deodorant for Men, which also sells for $1.98.

For the lady on your list, she'll adore a Bath and Body Works Black Amethyst Jar Candle, which regularly retails for $19.50, but sells for only $3.98 at Deals World.

Along with a spa candle, treat

her to a pair of cozy microfibre slippers, which come in their own carrying bag for travelling, also from Deals World for $2.98.

Deals World also has plenty of stocking items for kids, including

the hottest new accessory for youth this season – Silly Bandz or Wacky Bandz, ranging in price from $1.18 to $1.98. Assorted colouring books and crayons for all the little ones on your list sell for less than a dollar.

Magnetic travel-sized games, such as checkers or snakes and ladders, and hand-held puzzles make a great stocking stuffer for kids and adults alike.

Going Places also has a number of unique stocking stuffer ideas, with several items especially for someone who may be travelling in the near future.

From playing cards for long flights and endless layovers, to travel journals, ear plugs and luggage tags, gift ideas abound at this specialty store.

Brian Giebelhaus photoLisa Farrow of Peninsula Runners models the Garmin Forerunner 405 watch and YakTrax, heavy duty traction for your runners.

If someone you know spends more time at the gym than at home and would rather head out

on a rainy cold morning to jog than sleep in, you know you’ve got a fitness fanatic on your giving list.

Not sure where to shop or what gifts will get your loved one’s endorphins flowing and heart pumping? Don’t fret. We’ve done all the heavy searching so you don’t have to break a sweat.

The gift of a better body, health and vitality is one of the most valuable things you could ever give.

A gym membership is a terrific gift for anyone on your list who will know and appreciate its true value.

Sandcastle Fitness is changing the way people think about fitness clubs, with an emphasis on a warm, welcoming environment for people of all ages and fitness levels.

The owners, management and staff know the importance of maintaining a small-town feel and non-intimidating atmosphere, and go the extra mile to get to know their members by name.

What sets Sandcastle Fitness apart from other gyms is their no- pressure and no-commitment policy – members pay on a monthly basis, and there are no locked-in contracts.

A popular gift idea is a one-

or three-month membership to Sandcastle Fitness so your loved one can see if the gym is the right fit.

The co-ed club with a ladies-only section offers a variety of group fitness classes, including step, pilates, yoga, and Johnny G Spin (certified), an indoor cycling program and child minding.

For the gal on your list who has lots of drive to stay fit, but lacks the time, a membership to the 30-Minute Hit may be just the ticket.
