There has been so much happening that I don’t know where to begin!
Production A production takes many hands, commitment and a lot of effort from many people. There are many people who were specifically involved, who freely gave of their own time to ensure that the Production was the success that it was, and to all of you I say a very big thank you. The biggest thanks though, go to the students who gave their best, on not one, but two nights of the Production. Well done to you all, it was an amazing experience.
Father’s Day Breakfast / Grade 6 Footy Game Another event that was a huge success was at the Father’s Day Breakfast last Friday. What a great event that was too. Now we are under pressure as to what to do next Mother’s Day! A big thank you to our Parent’s Club for coordinating the breakfast, you are amazing. The Grade 6 parents vs Grade 6 students footy game was also very popular and a lot of fun. At least the rain held off this year. Congratulations to the winning team – the Parents, who won by a very narrow margin!
Monbulk & District Rotary Club Competition Ava W, Summer B and Oliver K represented our school in the Monbulk & District Rotary Club Public Speaking Competition which was held at Monbulk earlier this month. Although nervous, all of the students presented their speeches confidently on a variety of chosen topics. Oliver K gained first prize and Ava W gained second prize. An excellent effort! The students will have another opportunity, this Friday, to present their speeches at the final assembly for the term. John Coleman, President of the Monbulk & District Rotary Club, will also be our special guest and will present Oliver with his winning certificate at the assembly. Oliver now has the opportunity to go through to the State finals to be held in November.
Vicspell Competition We were invited to compete in the Zone finals of the Vicspell (Victorian Spelling Bee) competition which was coordinated by Upwey Primary School. Ava W competed in the Grade 6 category and Summer B together with Will L competed in the Grade 5 section. All of our students did very well. However, I am delighted to announce that Will won the Grade 5 section and then went on to compete in the State Final which was held last week at Taralgon. Although he didn’t win at the State Finals, Will still represented us proudly. Well done to you all.
Disco Both sessions of the Disco were well attended this year. The students enjoyed dancing and singing along to the music of the DJ, Riley. The event managed to raise approximately $1000, a fantastic effort, which all goes towards the

Graduation fundraising efforts. Thank you to Karra, Michelle, Fleur and all the parents who assisted in ensuring that the students had a fabulous time.
Sick Children Whilst it is often difficult for families to coordinate their working commitments around sick children, there have been quite a number of children who are coming to school, when they should be kept home because they are unwell. Please be mindful, that by sending children to school when they are genuinely unwell, can also adversely affect those around them by passing on infections and viruses.
Painting of Admin Building If you have been into the administration building this past week, you may have noticed that the walls particularly, are looking rather bare, due to the fact we are preparing the building to be painted during these school holidays, thanks to the fundraising efforts of our hard working parent community. We are all very excited and looking forward to our facelift and have a fresh, more modern and inviting administration building after the holidays!
Maintenance Blitz Funding The Honorable James Merlino, Minister for Education, last week unveiled a much appreciated influx of funding into the maintenance funds of schools. These funds are targeted to maintenance issues that were identified during a recent inspection of our buildings last year and, unfortunately, can not to be used towards other projects such as the painting of the administration building and the planned replacement of the carpets in the 3/4 classrooms during the Summer holidays. However the funds received are very welcome and will help us to address our rather leaky roof, prepare the grounds for the fire season and upgrade our ‘smart switches’ amongst other targeted projects.
Grade 1/2 and Grade 5/6 Hoop Time The Grade 1/2 students are all heading off to the Kilsyth Basketball Stadium to compete in the Hoop time competition. Grade 5/6 students are also competing the same day in Hoop Time at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium. This is a wonderful opportunity for all students, whether they are new to basketball or they play at a club or Representative level.
Athletics Division Finals Good luck to all of our athletes who are competing this Wednesday in the Division finals at Knox Athletic Park. Well done on reaching the divisional level of your events and have a fantastic day.
CFA Visit Lyndy Jewell and Peter Garth from the CFA paid a visit to the Grade 5/6 students to talk about the benefits of belonging to the Junior CFA. They gave the students a tour of the CFA truck, explaining all the instruments and gadgets. Junior CFA is free and meets every Thursday night between 5pm – 6.30pm at the CFA building near the Ferny Creek Reserve. See Jill for the contact information.
Donated Freezer We were so excited during the week to receive delivery of a new freezer for our school, courtesy of the Philanthropic Collective. Ferny Creek Primary are a satellite program for the State with the Free Food Program. The program is only ever as good as the people who give up their time to implement it. Aldi senior management are thrilled, as are Yarra Ranges Council with what we are doing. The good word is spreading across the community. Tanya
Cameron, Robyn Taylor and Julian Hill are to be commended for their efforts in ensuring the food is collected from the distributors and that our students receive healthy snacks two mornings a week. I couldn’t resist the yummy smells coming from the kitchen earlier this week, so I took the opportunity to sample the banana loaf and zucchini slice baked by Robyn and Tanya, DELICIOUS!
Footy Roadshow Day What better way can there be than to finish off the term with a Footy Roadshow Day. Friday is a Footy Colours Free Dress Day which starts with a footy themed assembly followed by the Footy Roadshow incursion. A notice has gone home giving students the opportunity to order a footy lunch order. There will be no lunch orders on Friday. Thank you to our parent helpers who are coordinating this mammoth effort. So students, start practicing your club’s footy songs!
End of Term Friday – Early Finish Please remember that the last day of term is this Friday 20th September, and we will be finishing at 2.30pm. The After the Bell program will be operating from the end of the school day.
Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable holiday break…I’ll be heading off to Queenscliff for a few days R & R and then will be spending some time with the gorgeous twins who are growing up so fast! Go Tigers!!

I made the best town. My group was called Chocolate Town. The town had 3 houses and it had a pizza shop – YUM! My group was Chris, James, Miranda and Anjelica. WOW! Chloe

I made a town. I really enjoyed it. Our group was fantastic. Our police station was really cool. We worked really well. Our group was called the Animal Group. There were lots of trees. I made one. I got this green fence stuff around my tree. Our group listened to ideas, and said that’s a great idea!
