Education Week Celebrations
Celebrating Today, Preparing for Tomorrow
We have plenty to celebrate in our school! We have an
enrollment of 124 students, 4 volleyball teams, an active SRC,
yearbook committee, and many other things! To help celebrate
Education Week and all the wonderful things happening in our
school, we had buddy reading, a hot dog lunch, Footloose Friday
and our annual Open House.
At the Open House, PSSD Superintendent of Learning, Lori
Meyer and Learning Consultant, Jenn Chann gave a
presentation on our new progress reports for Grades 1-8.
Following the presentation, students, parents and guardians
visited classrooms and toured the school while completing our
annual scavenger hunt! We ended the evening by trying to
complete the challenging activity of “Guess the Grad” while
enjoying our cookies and juice. We would like to thank everyone
who took the time to attend this event.
To complete our week of celebrating, we hosted the Bantam
Boys Section Volleyball playoffs. With the help of many staff and
parents, we had a successful tournament. Again, the support of
our community gives us lots to celebrate! To top it, our Lafleche
team received the Silver medal and are off to Districts! At the
same time, our Bantam Girls competed at Glentworth and
finished in fourth place. We are proud of all our athletes!
Even though Education Week and its celebrations are over,
let’s continue to celebrate student success and recognize the
dedication that parents and educators give to our students
throughout the year.
Friendly Reminders:
- With the unpredictable weather, please help your child(ren)
to dress appropriately. Extra items in the back pack are
always a wise idea.
- We know life is busy with extra-curricular activities, but we
would like to give a friendly reminder to bus students to please
let your driver know when you will not be on the bus.

PREKINDERGARTEN
The Prekindergarten class has had an
exciting month learning about Thanksgiving,
fall, pumpkins and Halloween. We have
enjoyed reading books, participating in
finger plays, learning from Annie and Moby
on Brain Pop and so much more. The class
looks forward to this Thursday as we will be
having our Halloween dress up party. The
students have been enjoying their library
time at school as they get to sign out a new
book each week. They take part in finding
their books and signing out their book by
scanning their name and book barcode. We
would like to thank the Ellis family for lending
the Kindergarten/Prekindergarten classroom
two mannequin heads for our hair salon that
we have set up in the dramatic play
area. The students love cutting and styling
hair, doing make up and playing dress
up. We look forward to keeping everyone up
to speed about our classroom next
month!

KINDERGARTEN
In the Kindergarten class we have been
exploring seasons, fall and pumpkins. We
went on a fall Scavenger Hunt around the
neighbourhood and found 75% of the items
on our list; thank you to all the friendly
community members who helped us out
along the way!
In Math, our class is learning about sorting
objects with at least one attribute and being
able to give an explanation and “sorting
rule”. We have also been experimenting with
copying, extending and creating two to
three element repeating patterns. In ELA, we
have been working on writing, Jolly Phonics
letters (s, a, t, I, p, n), authors/illustrators,
rhyming, listening and following directions. In
Science, we have explored sink or float, and
making predictions. Over the next few
weeks, we will be working on preparations for
the upcoming Student-Led Conferences. This
semester, we will have a student portfolio
and an Early Years Evaluation instead of a
report card. Students, parents and teacher
are also connecting through our new digital
portfolios using the Seesaw app. We have
enjoyed the Spirit Week and are looking
forward to our Halloween party on Monday!
The students think it would be fun to go on a
ghost hunt around the school! We are
learning a variety of co-operative games in
PE.

CROSS COUNTRY
On Friday, October 14, Kyle M, Mitchell C and
Michael P headed for Delisle to represent our
school at Provincials! It was a challenging
course with one big hill that the boys had to
conquer twice! There were over 600 athletes
there. The weather was a bit cooler than we
were used to. The temperature was minus 4
when the boys ran their 6 km race. There
were 82 athletes in the Senior Boys’ category.
The boys joked that their goal was to finish in
the top 100! In the end Kyle finished in 66th
place with a time of 28:01, Michael finished
73rd with a time of 29:22, and Mitchell finished
78th with a time of 30:15. This was a great
experience and our students demonstrated
great sportsmanship and personal
satisfaction. The boys made a lot of new
friends and represented our school well. We
are very proud of them! Coach: Mrs. Packet

the A team and won against the B team. We
also went to playoffs in Glentworth on
Saturday, October 22. The girls played very
hard and received fourth place. We would
like to say thank you to all the parents that
drove our team to games this season. We
could not have done it without you! We also
want to thank all of the referees, umps,
linesmen, and spectators for helping and
cheering us on this season. We would also like
to extend a special thank you to Mrs.
Longworth and all her volunteers who ran our
delicious concession for our home games! Coaches: Mrs. Cornet & Ms. Elek

Two weeks ago we faced off against

make strides as a team. The referee even
commented at one point that we did not look

and do our best. Go Lightning!!!
