With Lightning speed the summer is over and our Lightning

family has started a brand new school year! It’s great to be back!

We would like to welcome our new staff members and

students to Lafleche Central School and community. Our new

staff members are; Mr. Kelly Chambers, Mrs. Lisa O’Reilly, Mrs.

Sherrie-Lynn Haavisto, and Mrs. Danielle Schmidt. Our new

students are; Dylan (grade 1), Janniqua (grade 4), and Ryan

(grade 5) as well as the 11 new PreK students. We are excited to

have new faces in the building and look forward to working and

getting to know them and their families.

Teachers spent the last few days in August in meetings,

professional development, gathering resources and planning.

We worked together to set goals and plan the extra-curricular

activities for the year. I am so pleased with the commitment and

dedication the staff have already agreed to do!

For most students, their first day started on Thursday,

September 1. Thank you to everyone who joined our LCS

welcome back breakfast. Thanks goes to the School Community

Council who organized the breakfast and all those who donated

muffins for the event.

With school back in full swing, we want to give a friendly

reminder to all the drivers out there to slow down in the school

zone, be mindful of students walking to and from school, and to

not pass buses during loading and unloading times. Thanks for

helping to keep our students safe.

School division budget changes continue to have an effect

on our extra-curricular programs. Specifically, the transportation

and the cost of officials. We are working hard to continue

providing the programs we have in the past and hope that our

families and community are able to continue to support us in this

area.

We are asking parents/guardians, who may be driving for the

school. Thanks to the parents and staff who

have already completed this.

Our first fundraiser for our school is our

annual bottle drive. This fundraiser will be

ongoing. If you would like to donate, we are

accepting bottles until October 14. A special

shout out goes to Adam Crooks who brought

in his trailer for us to store bottles in. We will

be selling Mom’s Pantry in November. Please

keep your eyes out for the order forms.

In order to help our school run more

smoothly, communication is the key. Please

contact the school if your child/ren will be

absent or if you have any issues or concerns.

Lastly, social media is here to stay and it is

sometimes difficult for us to navigate our way

through it. And for some, even difficult to use

it! We find that the education, proper

etiquette, and the laws have not caught up

with this fast paced way of communicating.

We ask that parents/guardians be cautious

of three things:

1) Know what your child/ren are

doing/saying on social media. Teach them

proper use for their safety.

2) Be cautious of what you are

doing/saying on social media. For example,

when you take pictures at a school event

and post them on a social media site, you

may have other students in the picture who

have not given you permission to post his/her

picture.

3) Social media should not be a place to

rant and bully. Let’s model and teach our

children to use this technology in positive

ways.

I look forward to working with staff, students,

parents and community throughout the year.

Together I believe we make LCS, “A Small

School That Strikes Big!”

MILK CARDS Chocolate or white milk will be sold

beginning Monday, September 19

$25 for 20 milk

Please make cheques out to

Lafleche Central School.

Milk cards purchased and remaining from

last year will be honoured.

Hey everyone, I’m

Mrs. Lisa O’Reilly

and I am a new

teacher at LCS! I

am very excited to

be at LCS this year

and look forward to

meeting all the students and their family

members. I am not living in Lafleche, but I

look forward to becoming a part of the

community so please, if you see me feel free

to stop and say hi or tell me about your day!

I am a spunky Ukrainian who loves to dance.

My hobbies are spending time with family

and friends, camping, swimming, horseback

riding, listening to country music and learning

new things. I am originally from Yorkton, Sk.

and after graduating I moved to Saskatoon

to pursue my B. Ed degree. Afterwards, I

attended SIAST where I received my

Automotive Service Technician Certificate

because my dream is to repair my very first

car which is currently being stored away. I

got married to my husband Andrew on June

20, 2015 in Yorkton and it was a great day full

of love, laughter, happiness, Ukrainian

polka’s and food…. lots of food. We live on a

farm and have many cows (which I love to

work with), horses, cats and our dog, Diezel.

Mrs. Lisa O’Reilly

My name is Kelly

Chambers and I

am the new 11

& 12 homeroom

teacher. I am a

parent to three

wonderful girls;

Isabelle (9),

Tessa (7), and

Shayna (5) who gets to start Kindergarten this

year. I am originally from Saskatoon where I

met my wife Emily of 12 years. We moved to

Regina in 2012, where we still live, so I could

Please join us in welcoming our

attend the University of Regina. I enjoy the

outdoors and some of my hobbies include

fishing, hockey, and reading. With being

new in the community I look forward to

meeting as many people as I can this year,

so do not hesitate to stop and say hello to

me.

Mr. Kelly Chambers

I am Danielle

Mesquita-Schmidt,

a resident of

Lafleche, SK. My

husband and I

moved six years

ago from Alberta

and we love it

here. I have a 29

year old son in

Calgary. He is a mechanical engineer.

Mrs. Danielle Mesquita-Schmidt

We just recently moved to

Lafleche from Moose Jaw in

January of 2016. I have three

beautiful children, four

wonderful step children, six

precious grandbabies and

another on the way! We live

south of Lafleche and

absolutely love the farm

life!!! In my spare time, I

enjoy working with our horses, taking care of the

chickens, cats and walking our three dogs! I also

enjoy watching our daughter's goat "Goaty" run

and climb all kinds of objects! Indoors, I enjoy

watching movies, reading and spending time

with family. I am thrilled to be a part of LCS!! The

students and staff here are all so kind and

welcoming!!

PREKINDERGARTEN

The Prekindergarten class was super excited

to have started their first couple weeks of

school. They were welcomed by “Pete the

Cat” who has helped make their jump into

the classroom so easy. We have been busy

touring the school, practicing fire drills and

learning many classroom/school routines.

We love the free play exploration and have

been learning about using scissors and white

glue (remember a dot, but not a lot). We

look forward to the year ahead where we will

explore our surroundings and whole self

(physical, socio-emotional, physical, spiritual

and intellectual). What do I love about school

the most?

Hallie - “playing with play dough”

Hampton - “playing outside”

Isabella - “playing”

Brooklyn - “reading Pete the Cat books”

Lawson - “playing in the gym”

Ryder - “playing in the gym”

Olivia - “playing with toys”

Sawyer - “love playing with the farmers”

Have a fabulous month!

KINDERGARTEN

The 2016/2017 Kindergarten class at LCS has

17 unique students enrolled. They are a lively

group ready to explore many new things this

year. We have started the first term, learning

about “Pete the Cat”, colours, all about me

and back to school routines. The full day in

Kindergarten seems to be busy but the

student’s love that they have three recess

periods and a physical education class each

day. In Math, we have started learning

BANTAM GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

We are very excited about our volleyball

season this year. We have a very large team

of 14 players, so it is important that we get

parent drivers for games. The regular

practice schedule is still pending. Once we

have a game schedule, we will be

distributing a practice and a game schedule

to all players. Due to a disappearance of

jerseys in the past, Mrs. Cornet and Ms. Elek

will be keeping track of the jerseys. Players

will only be in possession of jerseys for games,

and then they will be handed back to the

coaches. Our first game is on Tuesday,

September 13; we hope to see you there!

Coaches: Mrs. Cornet & Ms. Elek

BANTAM BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Welcome back to another exciting year of

volleyball. Last week, we held practices at

lunch due to golf. This week, we will be

practicing on Mondays and Thursdays from

tournament on September 24. Come out

and cheer us on!
