FSU CHILDCARE FALL FESTIVAL

Volunteers are needed to assist in running games and activities, and serving refreshments. This is a great opportunity to earn service hours and have fun while working with families and children. TUTORING AT FSUS

Seeking tutors for The Florida State University Schools middle school and high school track and field program. The track and field program has been a powerhouse in the Big Bend for over a decade and now they are looking to become a powerhouse in the classroom by hiring 5 volunteer tutors to help facilitate our study hall sessions and provide top notch help for all of their student athletes. They need strong tutors in the subjects of Math, Science, English, Social Studies and Spanish. Study hall will be Monday through Thursday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at FSUS. All tutors are required to have a 3.0 GPA in their college courses and be in their second year or higher in college. There is an old-fashioned Story-telling and festival day on Thursday, October 30! Lots of volunteers are needed – as a group or individually. MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER

SPAGHETTI 100

Capital City Cyclists (a 501C3, not for profit) is looking for volunteers to help with a fundraiser for the 'Kids on Bikes' program, called Spaghetti 100. Proceeds from the Spaghetti 100 goes to support Capital City Cyclist’s Kids on Bikes program, where we provide engaging, educational opportunities for kids to learn skills and awareness of how biking positively impacts their health, environment and lifestyle. SUCCESS ACADEMY

The Success Academy is looking for mentors! The Success Academy is a Leon County public school that serves at risk students in 6th to 12th grade. The mission at The Success Academy is to create a unique and adaptable educational environment that will meet student needs and aspirations, allowing students to excel in the curriculum at an accelerated pace and to recover from academic deficiencies. They strive to assist students in reaching their highest potential and achieving the goal of earning a high school diploma. 2015 COMMUNITY CATALYST Fifteen Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI) Community Catalysts will be selected to work with local leaders, government and advocates to develop a project that makes it easier

for locals, students and visitors to find their way and connect with the community. The team’s goal is to speed up implementation of the proposed “Wayfinding Signage System,” and create new initiatives that showcase a variety of community highlights. As Florida's Capital, the Tallahassee region is home to thousands of annual visitors and residents. Domestic and international visitors are looking for popular sites and commercial destinations, but currently many of Tallahassee's landmarks and unique areas are not identified due to dated Wayfinding signage. TALLAHASSEE GREEK FESTIVAL

The Tallahassee Greek Festival is one of Tallahassee’s cultural events. Their motto is "come for the food, leave with the culture." This year's Greek Festival will be held October 24 and October 25. The event is listed on the Leon County Volunteer web site, and qualifies for service credits for students. Volunteers are needed to help at this event. There are 3 shifts each day (9:00 am to 2:00pm; 1:00pm to 6:00pm, and 5:00pm to 11:00pm). All volunteers at the Festival receive a free meal. As a volunteer in the Pastry Booth, you stand behind a tray of pastries, and simply place the pastries on the customer's tray. The customer then moves on down the line. In addition, they will be preparing the pastries on October 21, 22, and 23, and require volunteers at this time too. They will be packaging pastries from 9:00am to 8:00pm. LIBERTY MUTUAL RESPONSIBLE SCHOLARS

MILES FOR MASON 5K Miles for Mason 5K will be held on October 25 at 8:00am. The race is a memorial run in honor of 6 year old Mason Rhinehart-White who tragically lost his life on August 5. The money raised from the walk/run will go to help the family purchase a permanent home for their family. However, the main purpose of the event is not financial support, but the opportunity to encourage the family as they deal with the tragedy. The Florida State University (FSU) National Black Alumni, Inc. is an officially chartered affiliate of the FSU Alumni Association. The Association’s mission is to build a network of Black alumni and friends and sustain meaningful relationships on behalf of FSU. The FSU National Black Alumni promotes and supports the academic achievement and excellence of Black students at FSU. Consequently, the FSU Black Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in the FSU Foundation to provide financial assistance to minority students of African descent. As part of its 2014 National Black Alumni Reunion (“Fueling the Fire”), the FSU National Black Alumni will award $500 scholarships to three deserving students. One scholarship will be awarded in honor of Maxwell Courtney (first Black undergraduate student to attend and graduate from FSU), one will be awarded in honor of Dr. William R. Jones (Founder and first Director of the FSU Black Studies Program), and one is specifically designated for a student who is involved in the International Program or plans to study abroad. Interested students should complete the Scholarship Application, and briefly discuss their academic experiences and community involvement outside the formal classroom. Additionally, applicants must describe how they took a stand and were courageous in the face of injustice or a challenging situation, and how they used this as an opportunity to build social solidarity, encourage understanding, or broaden their academic experiences. NATIONAL COUNCIL ON US-ARAB RELATIONS

Students are invited to participate in the 2015 Florida Regional Model Arab League, a debate-based simulation of the League of Arab States. This academic and leadership development experience is open to both high school and university students. The conference will be held at the University Area CDC, March 19 through 20, 2015. Each academic year thousands of students participate in Model Arab Leagues across the United States and the world. Through participation in the Model Arab League program students develop essential skills from leadership and public speaking to critical thinking and writing, all while also gaining practical, immediate knowledge about a critical region – the Middle East and the Arab world. Forming a team for a Model Arab League conference does not have to be difficult! Whether led by a faculty adviser or student leaders, any size group of students may form a team and register online to receive a country assignment. Your team will then research its country's policies on the most important issues facing the Arab World and Middle East today, found in the MAL Agenda. Volunteer Florida is seeking a full time employee to manage a federally funded program that will assist Florida non-profits to increase their capacity and success at recruiting and managing volunteers. The selected candidate for this position will: assist in the design of a modular training program that builds upon existing curriculum and materials, and can be delivered in one to three day sessions; assist in the development of business rules and processes for an online grant application portal used to solicit Florida non-profits for participation in this program; assist with the selection and then management of fifteen (15) Florida non-profits who will each receive training and $10,000 in funding; and coordinate the delivery of up to five (5) of the modular training events per year.
