The group at Featherdale Wildlife Park

Some blue sky was great at the excursion into the city of Sydney.

We farewelled the students with a certificate, a group photo, a photo with their buddy and a Windsor High mug.

Whilst the Japanese students were here, we invited

an ex- student of Windsor High, James Fenton who

was school captain in 2014, to visit for the day. James

studied Japanese up until HSC level by distance edu-

cation, and can now speak very fluent Japanese. He

has visited Japan 3 times in the last 13 months, and

plans to move there for an extended period of time in

the not too distant future. James was able to help in

communication between the Japanese visitors and

ourselves, as well as translate my farewell speech at

the Farewell Assembly. He even managed to visit the

support unit and give the students in the MC class a

quick lesson on writing their names in Japanese.

Thank you Jimmy for visiting us and making the day

so special.

Some great engaging lessons have been delivered this week - Year 10 agriculture students set up a hydroponic

tomato growing system in the poly tunnel. The heat that is generated from the tunnel will allow the tomatoes to

grow out of season.

Miss Talidu's Year 9 VA (with Japanese guests) worked on Wassily Kandinsky styled collages.

In Commerce, students participated in a taste test-

ing activity working out which item was the most

expensive without knowing the brand and if a partic-

ular brand is value for money. This concept is one

that will hold the in good stead, knowing that just

because something is expensive, there is not always

a correlation to best quality product.

Students from various years had fun preparing the

poultry ready for Castle Hill Show.

Our results were outstanding with Two ‘Best of

Breed’ awards , four ‘First place’ awards and 2

‘Second place’ awards. Thank you to Ms Ruis and

all students who assisted in the preparation of the

poultry.

Ms West who is trained in preparing students to be peer

mediators, took a number of Year 9 and 10 students

through the training program. As Peer Mediators, the

students involved will begin mediations when required

between junior students in the coming weeks. Often stu-

dents can effectively resolve minor friendship issues be-

tween students. This is a great service to the school

community.

The SRC ran a fundraising BBQ to raise money towards

the schools netball team uniforms, With over $400

raised, the sausage sizzle was a great success.

To recognise our great students, who display our core

STAR values of Safety, Teamwork, Achievement Re-

spect on Monday we held our first Principals Morning

Tea for 2017 for Years 10, 11 and 12. The recipients

had showed a number of great achievements including

leadership, academic excellence and school service. It

was great to see parents and friends attend the

ceremony.

In 2017, the Science Department will provide an opportunity for students to challenge themselves in the Big Science Competition. This 50 minute international competition is open to students of all abilities at four different levels: year 7, 8, 9 and 10 Questions test students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as their science knowledge. Each student who takes part will receive a certificate as well as detailed feedback on their performance in the competition. They also go into a draw to win cash prizes. Our school will receive a comprehensive report for each paper level showing how each student performed on each question, the percentage of students in the cohort who answered correctly, and a comparison with the national results. The Big Science Competition will be held in school between 17 and 24 May 2017. The Big Science Competition is organised by Australian Science Innovations is an independent not-for profit organisation committed to contributing to building Australia’s scientific community through inspiring and developing our best science students. ATHLETICS CARNIVAL A reminder to parents and students that the Windsor High School annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday 4 April 2017 at the Blacktown International Sportspark. This is a compulsory school day and will be running despite any inclement weather. It is an all-weather track with plenty of shelter from the elements. Students have two options regarding transport to the venue … They can either make their own way to the venue or book a seat on a bus that will leave directly from school. Students catching the bus will need to be at school no later than 8:45am to have their names marked off so that the buses can leave promptly at 9:00am. Students will return to school by 3:00pm in order to catch their regular buses home. COST Option 1: $20.00 includes bus transport to and from the venue, venue entry and a sausage sizzle for lunch. Payment must be paid to the front office by Friday 31 March. OR Option 2: $10.00 includes venue entry and a sausage sizzle for lunch. This option is for students making their own travel arrangements to and from the venue. This money will be collected at the gate on the day.

Macquarie Zone Touch Football Gala Day On Monday 20th March we had a girls and a boys team represent Windsor High School at the Macquarie Zone Touch Football Gala Day at Valentine Sports Park. The girls team consisted of Jackie Van Trump, Emily Dunn, Sophia Houston, Phoebie Matthews, Olivia Hughes, Maddison Tuckwell, Analyse Steele, Tymika O’Toole and Rosemarie Beckett. Despite many of the girls playing touch football for the first time, they performed so well on the day, victoriously beating Colo High School and finishing in 6th place on the day. The boys team consisted of Jarrad Blakemore, Ben Mills, Stephen Chambers, Dillin Kelly, Charn Souter, Jake Steele, Jonathon Beckett, Bodee Keevil, Aiden Garzon and Jordan Mortimer. They finished in 5th place overall and also victoriously beat Colo High School and Crestwood High School. Special mention to Jarrad Blakemore for finishing the day as top try scorer with 5 tries. Congratulations and thank you to both teams for representing the school with such pride and outstanding behaviour, as well as never giving up and constantly trying your best. It is days like these sporting gala days that truly represent that we are ‘The Best School in the Hawkesbury Valley and Beyond’-Louise West.

A very special thank you to the Beckett parents for

their commitment and coaching with both teams for

the duration of the day. Your help and assistance is

greatly appreciated!

All students who compete on the day will be entitled to a sausage sandwich. Canteen facilities will be available on the day. Students however, are encouraged to ensure they bring plenty of water. Students must wear full PE uniform, house colours or suitable running attire including closed in shoes (no thongs or sandals). Jeans are NOT appropriate attire for an athletics carnival. They should also ensure they bring both a hat and sunscreen. NO footballs or other sporting equipment are to be brought to the venue. Looking forward to a great day … be sure to come and support your House! TERM ONE SPORTING EVENTS Term One has been really busy with many sporting events occurring over the past ten weeks.

Swimming … Congratulations to Rhiannon Williams

who represented WHS as part of the Macquarie Zone

Swim Team at the Sydney West Regional Carnival

held at Sydney Olympic Park Swimming Centre,

Homebush. Macquarie Zone was top of the leader

board at the half way mark. We are waiting on final

placings in this hotly contested regional event.

Basketball, Netball, Soccer, Touch Football and Rugby League … Congratulations to all students, both boys and girls, who continue to trial, train and participate in Macquarie Cup Gala Days. Your enthusiasm and passion for these games have been recognized at both School and Zone level. Huge thanks and congratulations must be extended to Mr Carter, Ms Beale, Mrs Brice, Mr Cotter, Mr Fragogiannis, Miss Oppy and Mr Muscio for their continued support of the WHS sporting program. These teachers constantly give up their time to ensure students have access to high level sporting events and competition including basketball, netball, soccer, touch football and rugby league. We would also like to thank all the teachers of WHS who volunteer their ‘free’ periods to also ensure that regular lessons at WHS are uninterrupted and every day can proceed smoothly as normal. Remember Sport day at WHS is Wednesday and all students from year 7 – 10 are expected to be in full PE uniform … gold shirt and WHS black shorts. Keep participating … these are the things you will remember when your school days are over!! Mrs Horan and Mrs Windon Sports Organisers.

JAPANESE STUDENT HELPERS TESTAMONIALS.

On Wednesday the 22nd of March we went to the city. On the double decker train to the city the Jap-anese students found out that the seats could move back and forth. After an hours’ worth of sit-ting patiently on a train we finally get off at Town Hall. The first thing we did when we arrived was to explore the Queen Victoria Building. (QVB). We had 20 minutes to explore the QVB and meet back up at the other side of the QVB. So the first my buddy Yuro and I did was go straight to the top floor. There we found Aboriginal painting, weapon and bowls/plates. After that we walked over a bridge to get to Darling Harbour. There we had lunch and had an hour to have a look around a mall in Darling Harbour. There my buddy Yuro tried a slushie for the first time. After that hour we all met back up then walked to a dock where we got on a ferry. The ferry took us around Sydney, we went under the Harbour Bridge, next to Luna Park and docked next to the Opera House in Circular Quay. Then we walked to a train station, hopped on a train to take us back to Town Hall then go on a different train at Town Hall to take us back to Mulgrave. I personally think this was a good experi-ence for me and my buddy. JEREMY KENNINGTON On Thursday the 23rd of March, a selected group of people and their Japanese buddies went to Featherdale Wildlife park. We spent 2 hours there. First we had half an hour to go off and explore we looked at many different animals, but one favourite was the koala. Everyone went and looked at them. Then we all met up at the learning burrow where we had a hour long talk. The man showed us four animals that only live in Australia. We go to pat them. The animals that we patted were, a shingle back lizard, a tawny frog mouth bird, a python and then a koala. After the talk had finished we had another half an hour to go and explore. Some of us even bought animal feed to give the kangaroo’s and wallabies. We all got see lots of animals and we all had lots of fun. Finally, we bought souvenirs and got some food. By that time it was time for us to leave. So we got back on the bus and went onto our next adventure. TARA HOTTWAGNER

Throughout the last week I have had a Japanese ex-change student staying with my family and I. It has been a good experience learning how he lives and learns. His name is Yasuki. It can be difficult sometimes understand-ing what he is trying to say but we use a translator to help us understand. On Monday afternoon after school my Mum, brother Zac, Yasuki and I went for a walk through Windsor Mall to look at the historic buildings and told Yasuki all about the Windsor Heritage. We had steak, chips, vegetable and mushroom sauce. It was very inter-esting to see how he ate and communicated with us. My parents leave early in the morning to go to work so we have to wake ourselves up and get ready. It was intri-guing how he understood what it was like to have no par-ents around. We went to school as usual. We got picked up from school and went home and relaxed. On Wednes-day we went to the city. It was great, a lot of walking though. That afternoon/night I went to netball training and stayed at my aunties house but by the sounds of it the boys had a blast. On Thursday we went to Featherdale Wildlife Park and go to pat the animals. We had a great day. We then went to Muru Midigar and Aboriginal Camp and Park. We go to throw boomerangs and learned about Aboriginal Culture. Overall all having a Japanese student stay at your house is a great experience for all.

What was the most fun thing I did in Australia is water golf. On the first day of my meeting my host family, we went water golfing. Since it was so hot and I was nervous that day, my palms got sweaty, so the golf club I was us-ing slipped from my hands and fell into the pond. I got shocked, but all my host family burst into laughter so I got relieved and calmed down. HAYOTA YAKO

I went to a zoo yesterday. There are many animals in the zoo. It was very interesting. I learned about Aboriginal Culture. I was very difficult. YUKI TANAKA

I went to flip out on Tuesday. Bouncing on trampolines. Is awesome! My host family, Jazz taught how to back flip to me and I almost mastered it. I enjoyed trampolines but I still have a pain in my arms and legs. RYUNOSUKE KOBAYASHI

I went to zoo yesterday. I watched a lot of animals. I belong to biology club but I don’t know about animals much. So it is valuable experience for me. SOHEI KAMIYAMA

Kangaroo which I saw at zoo very fluffy. It was running and jumping at zoo without cage. I found that adult kan-garoo is more fluffy than kids because those hair is differ-ence child and adult. So I usually gave an adult kangaroo more feed to touch it more. YURO FUKUDA

About one week has gone. It was very fast. All of Australi-an people are very king to us, speaking slowly, simple word, telling culture etc. By the way, today we went to Australian zoo and MUKU? (Place to learn about Aborigi-nal Culture). In the zoo, we saw many kind of animals, especially moving koalas (not sleeping koala) were so cute. And we could feed kangaroo! It was my first time in the MURU, we tried throwing a boomerang! It was difficult for us, no boomerang didn’t return to our hands. After that, we listened to the explanation about Aboriginal Cul-ture. Some of us and I try playing Aboriginal music instru-ment (I can’t spell). Also, it was hard. Such experience must be our food for our life. I want to pleasure remaining days.

might feel like if you were able to make sense of what

your child was really asking from you.

The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is

based on decades of research about how secure

parent-child relationships can be supported and

strengthened.

Our facilitator work with parents and care-givers to

help them to:

Understand their child’s emotional world by

learning to read emotional needs

Support their child’s ability to successfully

manage emotions

Enhance the development of their child's self-

esteem and security in life.

This is a valuable course for parents and carers who

wish to have a better understanding of and

relationship with their child.

Places are limited to 8 per group.
