Week 10 Term 1 2019
Ter From the Principal
We are coming to the end of a Term that was busting at the seams with activities, sport, incursions and learning
opportunities for our students. Swimming Carnivals, Swim School, Easter Hat Parades, Sporting Trials, Science incursions
including fishing days and the visiting ‘Environmentors’ are all completed and we will finish the Term with the Cross Country
Carnival and The Whole School Assembly including Anzac Day Ceremonies. It is no wonder that the students and teachers
are a little tired.
Our new roof on the Library is looking very impressive and has eliminated some of our leaks. We are keeping our fingers
crossed for the replacement of roofing on some of our other blocks throughout the year.
Have a wonderful, restful break, stay safe and we look forward to returning for Term two.

5/6 Redbacks
3/4 Penguins
In 3/4 Penguins, we have been studying the unit of work ‘Features of Australia’
where we have been learning about and labelling Australia’s states and
territories.
This Term the Redbacks have been enjoying learning about our mentor text “Fox” by Margaret Wild. We have been completing joint construction writing sessions to perfect writing in the style of the author Margaret Wild.
We hope you enjoy reading our finished product:
At moonrise, when the sky is shimmering with the Aurora Australis, Dingo and Koala rest at the edge of the Billabong, looking at each other’s reflections in the crystal clear water. Repeatedly, Tasmanian Devil ruins their reflections, but Koala hears her growling jealously, always growling with contempt. And at moonrise when the moon is full, her growls echo through the Billabong- a sound of fear, sadness and revenge.

Swim School
You know it’s a new year when Swim School comes around and this year was no exception. The signs were there, the
distinctive smells of chlorine, sweat and success , our familiar instructors, the ever-changing weather conditions, lots of
laughter and the struggle with bags containing water soaked swimwear making our journey back every day just a tad
more tiresome.
Yep , swim school had definitely arrived.
With 60 budding Stephanie Rices and Ian Thorpes it was down to business from day one and in true Noumea fashion we
did not disappoint. By the end of day nine, everyone had made a significant improvement in their swimming abilities
and overall in their confidence around water.
A special thank you must go to the staff that participated in Swim School and to those that remained behind for their
flexibility and understanding dealing with an altered timetable.
Many thanks to Mr King for the Minties and well done to everyone involved!

SPORT REPORT
When you start the day either watering mushrooms or feeding and cleaning mice, stick insects or mealworms you know Science is very much alive and well at Noumea.
With our new Science and Technology syllabus in hand our students have been learning all about living things and how they survive in their environment as well as what makes
them unique.
In addition, some of us were lucky enough to have participated in a NSW fisheries workshop which taught us the value of sustainability, fish identification, size and bag limits as
well as casting and knot-tying practise which literally had many of us tied up in knots!
Regards,
Mr Ford.
