“Together We Achieve More”
Safer Internet Day A global event held annually to promote the safe and responsible use of digital technologies, for chil-dren and young people. The Senior class have signed up to participate in a webinar via polycom on this day. Swimming Program This week we have enjoyed the services of Trish Torpey as we head towards the swimming sports. We have been lucky to have been in the water everyday this week and for a great treat were joined by Tempy students and staff on Wednesday which was heaps of fun as well. I congratulate our students on their efforts in the pool, it has been a little cool this week, but we have seen some fine examples of perseverance and determination and tremendous achievement in our students. We now have 100% of students swimming a full lap of freestyle and anticipate that all chil-dren will participate in the Cluster Swimming Sports next Friday. Well done kids—you have made us so proud! There is a pool working bee Thursday 11th from 3-6pm to ready the pool yard for the sports on Fri-day. All hands on deck would be much appreciated. Students will travel to Swan Hill on February 15th and 24th to train in the 50m pool. The cost of this will be covered by the Sporting Schools grant as a part of our swimming program. Younger students will undertake their swimming session in the smaller pool, while those capable will be able to get a feel for the 50m pool. Students should bring water and snacks. An excursion note has been sent home and must be signed and returned prior to the excursion. We will depart after all students ar-rive at school and return home before the end of school on these days. Students may travel by bus as usual. School Uniforms It is lovely to see all students back to school and looking smart in their correct school uniforms, Well done to parents and students for their effort in this area. As is customary, a uniform order will be placed toward the end of T1 for items needed by students going into the cooler months. Endoreic Film Festival Year 5/6, Hopetoun The Yarriambiack Shire Council Youth Officer has arranged a short film making program for young people in our area over the next 6 weeks. As such the Year 5/6 students will travel to Hopetoun Neighbourhood House this Friday for the first ses-sion, this will continue over each Friday til the long weekend—dates will be confirmed in the newsletter following the swimming sports. A signed con-sent form must be returned prior to participating. Grounds Following the refreshing 30mm of rain we had in town on Sunday the school yard requires some spraying and mowing. If anyone is able to undertake a bit of either of these jobs, please let Natalie or myself know. ANZAC Pavers project With the arrival of the pavers last week, the process of laying them and get-ting the garden area complete has started. It is coming along really well and it is exciting to see the plan coming to fruition. It is anticipated that an ANZAC Day service will mark the opening of the area. Anyone popping in for a look should take care around the area as the surface is quite uneven.

Drought Funding through CSEF Some very good news through the grapevine that all enrolled students will be eligible to apply for funds through the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund of $375 per enrolled student at our school. More information to come. Music Lessons—Alex Newell Alex will recommence his lessons at Woomelang Group School on March 2nd. Anyone interested in drums, guitar or singing should let me know. School Photos Greg Cruikshank Photography has been booked for the school photos on March 7th. An order form will be sent home in the coming weeks. Ambulance Cover A reminder to parents to ensure you have current ambulance cover. In the vent of an emergency an ambulance will be called. Without ambulance cover this can be astronomically expensive. School Council Nominations for School Council Parent positions are now open. If you are interested in coming along, please contact Andrea or myself for the appropriate forms. Healthy Eating and School Lunches It has been a long time since we have needed any reminders about the importance of children com-ing to school with a nutritious and nourishing lunch and snacks—we are just so lucky not to have chocolates and chips being sent along to school. It is terrific to see the healthy fruit snacks children are enjoying at 10am for Brain Food and to note that drink bottles do not contain milk, cordial or juice, but just good old pure rain water. I have attached a Lunch Order pricelist in case anyone has misplaced theirs and I thank everyone for their ongoing cooperation and support of our Healthy Eat-ing Policy. Head Lice It has been two years since our last outbreak of head lice at the school—how good its that!? Having said that we will continue to conduct head checks at the commencement of each term and do ask that parents remain vigilant about checking their children hair and letting us know should you find anything. Student Attendance It’s a timely reminder as we start the new school year that regular student attendance sets your child up for the best possible opportunity to learn and fulfil their potential. Our Attendance goal is for all students to miss no more than 10 days of school throughout the course of the year. Student Laptops New student laptops have been ordered and will be here shortly. Once these are configured to our network they will be issued to students. Following this the old machines, (desktops and laptops) will be ‘cleaned up’ and made ready for sale. These will be advertised in the newsletter.

Woomelang Group School Parents & Friends President’s Report
February, 2016
Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful break and are ready for another school year. Welcome back to the Woomelang Group School staff Melissa, Natalie, Andrea and Ve-ronica. I would like to acknowledge and thank the staff for their hard work and efforts during 2015 to provide a valuable and rewarding educational program for our children. We are extremely fortunate to have such dedicated staff at the school and I am sure the 2016 educational program at Woome-lang will be full of many opportunities and valuable experiences for the children. I hope everyone settles well into the school routine and enjoys this year at Woomelang Group School. Our first Parents and Friends meeting today will focus upon preparations for the Cluster Swimming Sports to be held at Woomelang on Friday 12
th February. As this is the only Cluster event held in
Woomelang we are seeking support from all school families to assist with the preparation, set up and running of the day. The smallest contributions to the running of this day can make a difference, please feel free to contact the school if you are able to assist. Good luck to all the students who are participating in the sports on this day. Fundraising ideas will also be discussed. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to raise money to support our students and the school. Parents and Friends welcome any parents and guardians to come and participate in meetings. Times and dates are advertised in the school news-letter and these meetings provide a great way for parents to become involved in the school. If you would like to know more about Parents and Friends, do not hesitate to contact the school or ap-proach a member of the committee. Looking forward to another successful school year. Week 2 – The 5 ways to wellbeing The start of the year can be a hectic time with everyone getting back into the rou-tine of school, work and activities after the holidays. Take some time out each day and do something to contribute to your family’s wellbeing. The 5 ways to wellbeing Connect: spend time with your family members, ask how their day was. Be Active: take a break from technology and DO instead of VIEW. Go for a walk together down by the park. Take Notice: sometimes we dwell too much on what we don’t have. Step back and enjoy the small things that make you happy. Notice the wonders that already sur-round you. Keep Learning: learning and challenging your mind stimulates your brain. Try something new, you never know the fun you may find! Give: helping others no matter how simple or grand sends care and happiness to others and can also make you feel good. Visit eatmovesmile.shdh.org.au for stories and ideas that can improve your mood and state of mind.
