From the Principal’s desk…

It’s been a busy start to the term and it looks

like it’s going to get even busier!

We are very fortunate to have our partnership

with UNSW through the ASPRE program. Our

three Year 7 students, Jayda Brew, Allister

Brigini and Harry Roscarel all attended the

ASPIRE Jump into Uni! days in Dubbo this

week. Jump into Uni! introduces students to

university, the types of subjects they can study,

and the skills needed to succeed. The students

enjoyed meeting new people and taking part in

the fun and engaging activities. The ASPIRE

team will visit UCS next Wednesday to work

with Kindergarten to Year 11, which students

always enjoy.

Braden Payne is attending the Upper Hunter

Beef Bonanza in Scone from Thursday to

Sunday this week, with students from

Condobolin HS and Lake Cargelligo CS. The

students will be involved in a number of

competitions including parading, meat

judging and cattle judging.

At UCS we understand that not all students

wish to complete higher education therefore

we seek opportunities for our students to

broaden their horizons and learn new skills

that will help them after they leave school.

TAFE NSW are running the Youth

Engagement Strategy (YES) Program for

targeted students over the age of 15. Tom

Roscarel, Ryan Crofts and Ryan Wallace will

attend TAFE in Temora one day per week for

for four weeks for ‘Be a Mechanic’ and Aimee

Jewell will be going to West Wyalong for a

TAFE Statement in Retail Skills and Business

Administration. Tom Roscarel and Jack Wells

will also be completing a 5 day ‘Introduction to

Welding’ course at West Wyalong TAFE,

which is being run by Training Services NSW

and Regional Industry Education

Partnerships. Our students are very fortunate

to have these opportunities.

Tomorrow is World Teachers Day. The day is a

great opportunity for everyone to recognise

and appreciate teachers and the important

role they play in shaping

the next generation.

Thank you to the

teachers of Ungarie

Central School for your

dedication to our

students!

Grandparents Day celebrates the

contributions grandparents make to their

families and communities. Grandparents are

invited to UCS next Thursday from 11am for a

morning tea and classroom visit.

Until next week,

Terrie Payne

Grandparents Morning Tea

Our Grandparents Morning Tea will be held next

Thursday. Morning Tea will commence at 11:00am with

open classrooms from 11:30-12:30pm. We look forward to spending the

morning with you!

With the temperature already reaching above

30C it’s very important that students are drinking enough water and protected from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Please ensure that your child is bringing a drink bottle of water to school and their school hat. Year 5/6 enjoyed learning how to use a compass to find a destination on a Map.

Lost Property

Our lost property bin is OVERFLOWING! These items have no student names on them. If your child is missing any winter clothing items, please come and check the lost property bin. These will become spare clothing in our office or be donated if they are not claimed in the next 2 weeks.

CAN YOU HELP?

The stage 5 Design & Technology class

are working on school beautification

projects. We are seeking assistance

from the community to donate some

second hand tiles to be used to create a

school logo mosaic – Colours needed

include black, maroon and yellow

As new printers are being installed in the school next Thursday (31st), the HUMBUG will be printed a day earlier (Wed 30th). Anyone with ads for Week 3 will need to get them in

on Tuesday please. Apologies for any inconvenience.

‘HABIT OF MIND’ AND SPORT AWARD RECIPIENTS FOR WEEK 1

The SRC have been fundraising throughout

the year for new basketball backboards at

UCS. In Term 3, the backboards were

installed. The total cost was $680.12

including backboards, chain nets and the

RHS to rebuild the frames. Thanks to Mr

Jason Lewis for rebuilding the frames and

thanks also to Mr Cattle and some senior

students for assisting to lift them during

installation.

The new backboards are certainly being well used by all UCS

students and hopefully this will continue for the next 20 years like

the old ones.

On Friday 20th September, the majority of Years 3-6 students travelled to West Wyalong to play in the Thunder Cup. This event featured modified cricket games aimed at promoting cricket. Ungarie entered one Yr 3/4 team of 8 players and two Yr 5/6 teams with a few Yr 3/4's in it to make up enough numbers. Each team played three games and really enjoyed the fun atmosphere of the day. There were some excellent skills on display and our students were terrific in encouraging each other and playing in the right spirit of the day. Other schools attending on the day were West Wyalong Public, Wyalong Public and St Marys.

UNGARIE THEATRE

Calling all locals As you may be aware, a clean-out of the shop at 60 Wollongough Street has been underway recently.

This has created an interest in the attached theatre - which still retains original structure and charm - so

we want to see the ol’ girl breathe again. I am Joanne, and I am involved with the people who own the

buildings. Plans are in hand to upgrade and promote the theatre, and document the history before it is

lost.

This is where you come in.

I am seeking testimonials, old photographs, and verbal recollections on the history of the theatre. To be documented, is information on the people who lived and worked there, plays performed, audiences that attended, acts, dances held, dates of events, and memories of the time the theatre was in operation. Perhaps it was that theatre where Grandpa met Grandma and they fell in love.

Interviews will retain history and revive the romance of theatre in book form, DVD

and film.

Any persons willing to engage, or if you know of anyone who has a story… Please contact: Joanne
