Monday – Music Instructions
I Can: Describe the different sounds that instruments can make using words like “loud” and “soft” and emotion words.
Musical Concepts: Dynamics, Tone Colour, Duration.
Dynamics is a word we use in music that means the volume of the sound. Dynamics can be loud or soft.
Warm Up: “Bim Bum Biddy” https://safeYouTube.net/w/T7i7
Students will watch the video and learn the song and movements, with the aim to increase speed each time. This song focuses on duration and pitch.
Bim – clap Bum – snap Biddy - pat on lap
Discussion & Interactive Brainstorm: Where possible, demonstrate each sound added to the brainstorm.
What are some ways that we can make a loud noise?
Examples: Banging a drum with our hands, Hitting a metal bin with a ruler, Quickly shaking a tambourine, Yelling loudly and Stomping our feet
What are some ways that we can make a soft noise?
Examples: Softly blowing air, Whispering, Tapping gently, Humming quietly, Tiptoeing and Rubbing our hands together slowly
Activity: Find some items from around the home that can be used to make noise. Can you order the items from what makes the softest to the loudest sound?
Emotions In Music:
Music can remind us of different emotions. Listen to the first minute of each song. Which song do you think sounds happy, sad
or angry? What makes them sound this way? What other words can we use to describe how the instruments are being played? Sad: https://safeYouTube.net/w/JHh7
Happy: https://safeYouTube.net/w/l6h7
Angry: https://safeYouTube.net/w/gQh7
