This is not your average fairy tale! In this camp, we will turn familiar tales upside down and see sides of stories you never expected to see. Whether we are meeting the Stinky Cheese Man, defending the Big Bad Wolf, or getting to know the magical characters who didn't get top billing, but maybe should have! This week will be all about telling not-so-traditional stories. Come join us for a week full of stories, games, and using drama to explore the land of Fractured Fairy Tales!

Grades: Entering 2nd – 5th in the fall July 10 – 14 (Monday – Friday) 1pm – 4pm Instructor: Sarah Beth Weinberg

Week of July 17 - 21

Ever wonder what it takes to put a play on its feet? In one week, we will take a play from script to stage. Campers will help organize and create sets and props, stage and rehearse a one-act play that we will perform as a showcase at the end of the week. The afternoon campers from the Tech Titans Camp will be working all week to add lights, sound, stage and large props to make our final performance one you won’t soon forget! Come experience the magic of theatre as we put on a Play in a Week!

Grades: Entering 4th – 7th in the fall July 17 – 21 (Monday – Friday) 9am – 12pm Instructor: Sara Beth Weinberg

Week of July 17 – 21 (continued)

The superheroes of theatre aren't only on the stage - there is a mighty team of technical wunderkind behind the scenes. Combining the forces of mind and body - Tech Titans design and build the set, properties, lighting and sound of all shows earning applause. Join forces for hands-on instruction: building flats, platforms, props; intro to lighting theory; light and sound design in state-of-the-art theatre software. While learning the craft, Tech Titans will also build a few set pieces and props for the morning Play in a Week Camp. On Friday - it is a whole day of activity as we call the Titans to assemble as the technical crew for the culminating performance for the families of both camps to enjoy. (Note: while power tools and ladders will be used, only 9th grade and older will be handling power tools. 6th - 8th graders will use hand tools.)

And don’t forget ...

While not part of summer camp, we would be remiss if we didn’t remind our you of acting opportunities with us during the summer months. Auditions will be in June for actors ages 12 to 21 Performances Thursday, August 3 – Sunday, August 6 (Thu-Sat 7pm, Sun 2:30pm)

William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, or What You Will is one of the Bard’s great comedies. Viola, cross-dresses and takes the man’s name of Cesario and enters the service of the Duke of Illyria, Orsino. Orsino longs for the love of a neighbouring

countess while Viola (Cesario) falls in love with Orsino. To add to the farce Viola’s (Cesario) identical twin, Sebastian arrives on the scene. Living in Olivia’s household is her uncle, Sir Toby Belch, a merry character. The steward of the household is the conceited Malvolio. The plot illustrates jealousy, mistaken Identity, cross-dressing and features fights and duels. In the end, Sebastian and Olivia fall in love and marry. Orsino realizes that it is Viola that he loves and she agrees to marry him. Sir Toby Belch and Maria also decide to marry! Twelfth Night ends and everyone, except Malvolio, is happy and Shakespeare speaks of the madness of love. Some parents might remember the 1980’s movie Just One of the Guys which used Twelfth Night as the basis for its storyline.
