What Will We Do for Christmas? It’s Time to Start Planning! Give Christ the gift of your time this Christmas and help us make Christmas Mass a joyful and peaceful experience for ALL who join us! We will need more volunteers than ever so we can meet all the safe gathering guidelines and still have Christmas Masses. All Masses will have additional seating in the Parish Center and the 4pm and 6pm will also have live Mass available in the school gym. This allows us to accommodate the most amount of people possible. But our priests can't do it alone, they need our help! ALL volunteers will receive reserved seating at Mass for their entire family. Rejoice! Advent Meditations with the Holy Family

In preparing for Christmas there are many tasks that come along with it. We spend our Advent Season buying presents, sending cards, etc. We find it a challenge to stay peaceful. How would you like this Advent to be different? This Advent season we invite you to experience a Jesus centered Advent through the new Rejoice! Advent Meditations with

the Holy Family. This journal will allow you to walk with Mary and Joseph through Advent on your own time. Each day will include two minutes of scripture, as well as imaginative prayer and reflection for each day of Advent. Limited books available. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I get this love from my mom. She always had a book on her nightstand, and still does. As you might have heard previously, my mother is 92 years old and is nearly blind but she paints beautiful pictures and reads every day. Her eyes might be going downhill, but her mind is not. I want to be like her when I grow up. I love books and (my confession) I have too many. But that is another story for another day. When I first decided that I was going to join the Catholic Church, I went directly to a bookstore to find a book that would help me learn. I found a limited number of books, and absolutely none of them looked interesting or informative to a new Catholic. Since then, our Catholic world has exploded with numerous outstanding books. Since we are entering the season of curling up with a good book, I am including a sampling of my most current suggestions. My Sisters the Saints: A Spiritual Memoir by Colleen Carroll Campbell This author is one of my very favorites. She has only two books and both are listed here. This book is about Colleen’s life growing up Catholic, wandering away, and coming back. The saints were her guide. The Heart of Perfection: How the Saints Taught Me to Trade My Dream of Perfect for God’s by Colleen Carroll Campbell I have only just started reading this book, but the word from my sister (another family reader) is that this book is hard to put down. Obviously, Colleen is a fan of the saints. In both of her books, she recognizes how the saints have helped her in her everyday life. I Heard God Laugh: A Practical Guide to Life’s Essential Daily Habit by Matthew Kelly It is good to know that God has a sense of humor! Matthew Kelly is another favorite author of mine. It is my next expected book purchase. I have not read it, but I have had it recommended to me more than once. Here I am recommending it before I have cracked the cover. That is not a problem, since Matthew Kelly is an author we can depend on to deliver a valuable message Attention CFF parents: Watch your email closely to learn what our next plan is to navigate through our COVID world. ACTIVE APOSTLE SHOUT OUT! Jim and Rae Ann Lang

Sacred Heart Community, meet Jim and Rae Ann Lang! This wonderful couple have been active members at Sacred Heart for over 40 years! Jim has survived as a member of the school board and parish council in the 90s, and is currently serving a second term on the

parish council. Together they are a wonderful sponsor couple to our couples who come to the Catholic Church seeking marriage. Jim has been active as an Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion, Knights of Columbus, and the Sax and Brass band. Rae Ann had done homebound communion for over 10 years and continues to bless our homebound members with prayer, Holy Communion and friendship. Thank you Jim and Rae Ann for all that you do to make Sacred Heart so special, we are so lucky to have you as members at Sacred Heart! St. Vincent’s Voice There are over 30 fellow Sacred Heart Parishioners active in our St. Vincent de Paul ministry. Due to the support of Sacred Heart Church and our fellow parishioners, we are able to provide assistance to those in need in our parish and community. We humbly thank you for allowing us to continue our mission.

Locally, the St. Vincent de Paul Society consists of 14 parish conferences led by our District Council in Des Moines. All the parish councils rely and support one another to help those in need. We are a Catholic Lay organization working to help others help themselves.

We are more than just thrift stores! We have food and clothing pantries, a social services department to provide education services, back to work programs, and financial services.

In addition, the Sacred Heart conference is happy to continue our missions:

Each month we provide meals at Connection Café to 80 people

We collected winter clothing here at Sacred Heart on October 24th. This clothing will directly be given to those that come to us without winter clothing.

In November, our Shoe Box program will donate boxes to 50 homeless people at Connection Café with personal care products plus socks and gloves.

We collected and donated games, books and puzzles for residents of Fountain West Health Care Center. We have had to cancel our monthly Bingo event due to Covid-19.

In November, we will restart the Sacred Heart School Food Pantry! We partner with the Food Bank of Iowa to provide non-perishable food to families needing assistance at our school.

We are providing Thanksgiving food certificates to church and school families for a holiday meal.

We are partnering with the Women’s Guild on their Jesse Tree Event. We will have ornaments on their tree to supply coats, hats, boots and gloves for Sacred Heart School Children. Thank you for your support to keep these children warm this winter!

Operation Santa Claus works with Toys for Tots to provide toys, games and books for children in the DSM area referred to St. Vincent de Paul. Check the Parish website for information on how to donate. This is a great way to earn service hours for our high school students as well! And thanks for the generous book donations!

We also give Christmas food certificates and toys from Operation Santa Claus to our fellow parishioners that applied for assistance.

In Remembrance November is the month in which we remember all of those who have gone before us. We ask you to consider participating in one or more of the following ways through our liturgical celebrations. · The Book of Remembrance will be set out on a podium next to the baptistery for you to write in the name(s) of anyone you know who has died. It can be a family mem-ber, parishioner or friend. It does not have to be someone who passed away this past year. · A Shrine of Remembrance will be done again this year. Parishioners may bring a framed picture (no larger than 5 x 7) of the deceased to the Parish Office, or set it on the shrine area. Please Label back of picture. Sacred Heart Face Mask Order Form The Knights of Columbus are promoting a face mask fund raiser at Sacred Heart. These face masks have the Sacred Heart

logo on a one size fits all stretchy gray knit fabric (see picture below). The suggested donation is $5 per mask. The Knights will be donating all profits to the Sacred Heart School Tuition Scholarship Fund! The masks are available to order and ready for pick up and delivery. Decorate the Church for Advent The Art & Environment Committee will be decorating our church for Advent on Saturday, November 28th at 8:00 am. We need help taking out the fall decorations and installing

the Advent décor. We also need greenery for the Advent wreath. If you have some, bring it with you on Saturday! As always, service hours are available and teens are welcome!

También huyen de la Cruz, pero vuelven; por eso debe de ser grande la virtud del agua bendita. Para mí es particular y muy conocida consolación que siente mi alma cuando la tomo.” - Sta. Teresa de Ávila

El rito de bendición que el sacerdote hace sobre el agua para santificarla, contiene oraciones de exorcismo. Puede desterrar a los demonios, curar a los enfermos y enviarnos una gracia no merecida; sin embargo, la mayoría de las veces nos persignamos con este agua sin ni siquiera pensar en lo santa que es en realidad. El hecho es que el agua bendita es un sacramental poderoso y debemos usarla a diario. Aquí tiene a una lista de ocho formas de usar el agua bendita en tu vida diaria:

1. Bendícete. Si sólo nos bendecimos con agua bendita el domingo, entonces nos estamos perdiendo el resto de la semana. Mantén una fuente de agua bendita en tu casa, para que tú, tu familia y tus invitados podáis ser bendecidos. Mantén la fuente junto a la puerta principal para asegurarte de que nunca sales de casa sin ella. 2. Bendice tu casa. Tu hogar es la Iglesia doméstica y necesita protección espiritual. Puedes rociar agua bendita en tu hogar tú mismo o hacer que un sacerdote bendiga formalmente tu hogar. 3. Bendice a tu familia. Usa agua bendita para orar y para hacer la Señal De la Cruz sobre tu cónyuge e hijos antes de que se vayan a dormir por la noche. 4. Bendice tu lugar de trabajo. Rocía tu lugar de trabajo con agua bendita, no sólo para tu protección espiritual mientras trabajas, sino también para santificar tu trabajo diario para mayor gloria De Dios.

5. Bendice tu auto. Nunca subestimes el poder del agua bendita aplicada a tu vehículo para mantenerte a salvo del peligro, cuando se usa con fe y confianza en Dios. De hecho, también puedes hacer que un sacerdote bendiga tu automóvil con agua bendita. 6. Bendice tu huerto. Era una práctica común en la Edad Media rociar los huertos con agua bendita. El uso del agua bendita para bendecir y santificar las plantas que se destinaban al sustento de la familia, demostró su confianza en la gracia de Dios. 7. Bendice a los enfermos. Si sabes de algún amigo o familiar enfermo, bendecirlos con agua bendita podría considerarse una obra de misericordia corporal y espiritual. 8. Bendice a tus mascotas. En la fiesta de San Francisco de Asís muchas parroquias tienen un rito de bendición para las mascotas. Incluso las mascotas pueden ser bendecidas con agua bendita porque toda la creación tiene el fin de dar gloria a Dios. Esto se aplica también al ganado y a los animales de granja. Esta es una oración sencilla para decir cuando se usa agua bendita: “Por este agua bendita y por Tu Sangre Preciosa, lávame de todos mis pecados, oh Señor. Amén."

No hay una oración específica para hacer cuando se usa agua bendita, aparte de hacer la Señal de la Cruz: "En el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo". También puedes rezar un Padre Nuestro o incluso la oración de San Miguel cuando uses agua bendita. Ten en cuenta que el agua bendita ya ha sido bendecida por las oraciones del sacerdote. Oración a San Miguel Arcángel San Miguel Arcángel, defiéndenos en la batalla. Sé nuestro amparo

contra la perversidad y acechanzas del demonio. Reprímale Dios,

pedimos suplicantes; y tú, Príncipe de la Milicia Celestial, por el

poder de Dios, arroja al infierno a Satanás y a todos los espíritus

malignos que andan dispersos por el mundo para la perdición de

las almas. AMÉN.
