Important TIPS to PLAN for THE TOUR………………………………………………………………… • Plan on visiting 3 or 4 farms per day. Pick a farm that

most appeals to you, and plan additional stops nearby.• Remember that GPS is not always your friend in

rural areas! Signs will help, but take paper maps and have someone navigate. View locations on your smartphone using Google Map: http://goo.gl/6knlJj

• Tour hours are from 1pm to 6pm both days of the tour. Please do not arrive before or after tour hours. Double check to make sure you’re visiting the right farms on the right days.

• Pack a cooler with ice so you don’t miss this special opportunity to stock up on the very best from local producers!

• Pack water! And plan for the weather.

Bring your Appetite!Plan on eating at some point during the course of the day at one of the ‘Food or Meal Stops’ along the way! Meal stops open at 11 am each day so you can enjoy a meal before embarking on the tour. Food and Meal Stops and farm products are not included in your admission. Bring cash or check for additional purchases as most of these stops will not take credit cards.

Be Farm-Friendly!Pets are not allowed, as they can be a hazard to livestock and pose food safety threats to produce growers.Tobacco is also not allowed due to a blight that it can carry to tomatoes. Please keep a close eye on your children. Our farmers will do their best to keep guests safe, but remember these are working farms with potentially harmful equipment, electric fences, etc. Wash up! Please take time to wash your hands after petting an animal. Please do not enter private homes unless given express permission by those farms offering in-home restroom access.

HOW TO TAKE THE TOUR: LOAD UP A CAR WITH YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY, LOCATE EACH FARM ON THE PROVIDED MAP, AND

DECIDE WHICH ROUTE YOU’LL TAKE.

…………………………………………………………You can choose which farms you’d like to visit, in any order you like as long as they are featured that day (check schedule for which farms are featured Saturday and which farms are featured Sunday).

• Cost is $30 per VEHICLE for all farms, all weekend (if you pre-purchase)

• Cost is $35 if purchased after June 17th

• Cost is $20 for a one day pass

• You’ll receive a brochure that serves as your weekend pass (this pass works for everyone in your car so carpool and save money and gas while building community.)

What you support when you attend this TOURBrief history of the Georgia Mountains Farmers Network

The Georgia Mountains Farmers Network is a collaborative of local and sustainable farmers throughout the Northeast Georgia Region (including neighboring states) working to collaborate on projects that help increase the impact of local foods in the region. Since January 2012, the GMFN has had 11 get-togethers. Each meeting includes a farm tour, a potluck meal, and a meeting to discuss ways for farmers in our region to collaborate. We’ve enjoyed these meetings so much that we’ve kept doing them. Our first board of directors was formed in February 2014, and received a grant that helped us get more local foods from Georgia Mountain Farms to our nearest urban neighbors in Gainesville, GA.The benefits of local farmers getting together and sharing information is significant. At our very first meeting we established a list of priorities for our network to work on together. We’re making steady progress on many of these goals including Hosting Public Events (which is how this Farm Tour came into existence). One of the biggest advancements of the GMFN in 2014 was in adopting the Northeast Georgia Locally Grown

Internet farmers market as an official program of the GMFN. This uniqe market represents the region’s best opportunity for small farms to expand their retail sales to nearby urban markets by adding a NEW customer pickup site in Gainesville, GA at the Northeast Georgia History Center on Wednesday afternoons. This expansion has allowed farmers to reach customers in Clayton, Clarkesville and Gainesville through one simple drop-off. Our distribution collaborative makes getting local food more efficient for both farmers and customers. We hope that these activities make Northeast Georgia known as a region where local food is flourishing. Your attendance on this tour helps us generate the resources to continue these pursuits. As do your efforts to EAT LOCAL! We Thank you!
