BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES for MARCH

President Doris
- opened the special Fellowship Dinner – celebrating Rotary International’s 110th Anniversary and welcomed the Members and Guests. - showed a video entitled ‘Why Rotary?’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rc2iBzTHwY
- noted the apologies from Rtns. IPP Raphaël, Claudette, Giorgio, Edgar, Pamela, Yasmina, Jörg and SaA Jan. - asked PP Anita to introduce the guests.
- thanked the following RCBS members for inviting some Guests to the meeting:
P Doris for inviting Maree Voller. VP John G. for inviting Elizabeth Glass. Rtn. Florian for inviting Nanik Suriani. Rtn. Manfred for inviting Helen Giehmann. Rtn. Eric for inviting Monica Ku-Guth. Rtn. Detlev for inviting Tom Pagels, Mariella Scerri, Fitria Melati & Tanja Latussek. Rtn. Alex P. for inviting Yoke Darmawan. Rtn. Dr. Jürgen for inviting Angela Schreiber. Rtn. Helmut for inviting Julia Volquarts.
- inducted the RCBS’ 58th member (No. 9 this year), Tineke Indradjaja. After thanking her sponsor, PP Robin for introducing her to Rotary, she took a few minutes and told the members about herself:
Rtn. Tineke was born in Padang, West Sumatra and is the youngest of four siblings. After high school, she moved to Jakarta to pursue her studies where she majored in Japanese and French. Her first job was working in a glass manufacturer as a secretary. Following this, she worked for a Japanese company where she luckily found a mentor. However, after 13 years in Jakarta, she decided she needed a BIG change, so she moved to Bali where she worked as a product development manager for an international jewelry company. After some time with this company, she worked for an animal charity foundation because of her new found passion for animals.
Rtn. Tineke is currently working for Bali Virtual Assistants (BVA) as the Office Manager. Treasurer Stephen O’Brien is her very supportive boss. In her free time, she designs silver jewelry and markets it on the internet. Here in Bali, she has discovered a lot about herself and has developed a passion for animals and their wellbeing. And with this new passion, she now has a pet dog for the first time in her life.

- exchanged Club Banners with Rtn. Noel Bates of the RC of Biloela, QLD, Australia.
- gave a BIG thank you to Rtn. Helmut & his wife Julia (Ixora Cakes) for making and sponsoring the beautiful Rotary International 110th Anniversary Cake. - thanked Rtn. Alex and The Trans Resort Bali for providing a very delicious cake for RI’s 110th Anniversary celebration.
- presented Rtn. Virginie with her (PHF + 1 / US$ 2,000) recognition pin.
- thanked Rtns. Patrizia and Tineke, for each contributing US$ 100 to The Rotary Foundation (TRF).
- showed a PolioPlus video entitled ‘This
close.’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVfaNJB8x1g&list=PLE60CADFBDF1260AE&index=1
- informed the members that 2015 marks the 30th year of The Rotary Foundation ‘PolioPlus’ Program. In 1988, there were 125 countries that had the poliovirus. Thanks in part to the tremendous effort of TRF PolioPlus Program – there are only three countries today that have still the poliovirus - Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. Fewer than 250 polio cases were reported worldwide in 2012, which is a 99% reduction since the 1980s, when the world saw about 1,000 cases per day. No new polio cases have been reported this year. RI is aiming for a POLIO FREE world by 2018.

- thanked Rtns. Detlev & Lusi for raising IDR 5,500,000 during their Chinese New Years (CNY) Brunch on Sunday, 22 February 2015. These funds will be donated to the Yayasan Senyum Bali (Bali Smile Foundation) http://www.senyumbali.org
PE Barb and Rtn. Sally said Detlev’s brunch was exceptional for many reasons, but in particular because everyone wore RED to celebrate the Chinese New Year theme color. And as a special treat, Ms Ye Lu and her friend Ping worked with Rtn. Sally and her husband Ken to make 500 SaJiaozi a.k.a Chinese dumplings for this year’s CNY celebration. However, before the CNY Jiaozi feast could begin, a whimsical surprise awaited the hungry attendees. Peter the Magician put on a very entertaining Magic show. Guests were enthralled by his card tricks… disappearing scarves …. water being poured into newspaper and then magically disappearing and re-appearing …. coins falling out of unsuspecting ladies’ hair. ALL very amazing - leaving many with a SMILE on their face. PP Anita thanked the 11 club members and their friends and family for attending the RCBS’ Cheque Presentation, which was held at the White Sands Restaurant in Jimbaran on Thursday, 26 February 2015. The RCBS thanked HM Don Havig and the Hash House Harries (Red Dress Run) for donating IDR 25 million to the Yayasan Putri Bali for their work in building
Low Cost Housing in Sukadana, Karangasem. This generous donation is an outstanding contribution to this small community and will change the lives of a number of less fortunate families. Again - thank you HM Don and the Hash House Harries for your continued support regarding this ongoing project.
