Aurum

Page 3: welcome

The building of Aurum has seen series of events and contexts that have never betrayed the true nature of this place. Since the beginning of the twentieth century its attitude was : "a place for entertainment and recreation." The architect Liberi prepared only the plan of the whole area.

Page 4: welcome

Only in 1919 the building received a new destination, becoming the seat of the distilleries of Aurum, the typical and well-known liqueur from Abruzzo.

Since 2003 began the renovation of the former distillery, ready to be transformed into a large multifunctional cultural center.

Cascella’s ship

Page 14: welcome

Pietro Cascella (Pescara, 2nd February 1921  –  Pietrasanta, 18th May 2008) was an italian sculptor and painter.He  was  the  heir  of  his grandfather  Basilio  and  his father  Tommaso.  He  was very young when he started showing  interest  in  painting, following  his  father’s teachings.

The  fountain  is   formed  by  a rectangular  pool made  of  Carrara marble,  containing a  stilyzed  ship  that remind  the «galea», an old rowing boat.

It  is  intentionally  inspired  to  the seafaring tradition of  Pescara,  but  there  are  other  interpretations  that consider the sculptur a commemoration of the pains that  Pescara’s  prisoners  suffered  in  the  Bourbon fortress,  while  they  were  used  as  rowers  on  Spanish ships until 1859.
