IMPORTANT POINTS Teacher Development

Methodology – I want you to discover a more communicative way to teach your classes. I will show you some techniques, but most importantly I hope you develop your own methods.

Language Skills – This is not an English Language class. I will not teach you grammar and vocabulary. I will help you improve your English skills by practicing and challenging you with difficult teaching topics. And, we will also practice how to teach reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Course Design 60 hours of class time + 10 hours of portfolio

preparation + homework assignments

Ice BreakersIce Breakers = Activities for the teacher and

students to warm-up, relax, and know each other.

Beginning level Circle name game Get in a circle and listen to the directions.

Examples of Ice Breakers

The teacher can show directions to students by modeling.

Talk with your partner about these activity. Did you like it? Why did I do it? What kinds of

skills? Etc.

Repeating is a very simple skill. It trains students NOT to depend on Portuguese

translations. Teacher can get a sense of what students know. This type of practice has more REAL purpose –

Playing a game and getting to know others. Make a safe environment to practice and talk. Fluency OVER accuracy.
