Construction crews are installing new street lamps, widening sidewalks and placing new medians on Franklin Street between the Student Union Build- ing and Centennial Hall, Public Works Director Ed Ieans said. He said roadside parking spaces will no longer be available due to the extended sidewalks. Ieans said construction will continue until Octo- ber and is set to be completed on time. John Gardner, Director of Residence Life, said detour routes have been set for students moving into residence halls. He said traffic heading to West Campus Suites and Centennial Hall will be sent to First Street. “It’s an inconvenience to us, but we hope [the construction] will make a safer road for Truman stu- dents, faculty and visitors,” Gardner said. The city also began installing new asphalt on streets surrounding campus. Construction on Da- vis Street, Patterson Street, Normal Street and First Street began Aug. 12, Community Services Coordi- nator Sarah Halstead said. She said the repairs would be completed Aug. 15.
