The Ecole Bilingue Internationale was originally founded to provide for the educational needs of children of

expatriate Michelin employees. With the support of the Michelin Corporate Foundation, the EBI now welcomes students from varying backgrounds wishing to continue their education in an English-speaking environment and

in an international ambiance.

The school welcomes students from more than 20 nationalities and is integrated into Ecole Massillon, a

private French Catholic Primary, Middle and High School (under State control) with a total enrolment of around

1400 students.

The school promotes the integration of non French speaking students into the French educational system while preparing Anglophone students for British and

American exams. The EBI team wants to equip students with the ability to cope with further study and the

demands of a higher level education

With over 27 teachers, from more than 12 countries, the E.B.I Education team is a group of diverse, talented and passionate educators.

The Ecole Massillon and the Ecole Bilingue Internationale work together in partnership. Your child is enrolled in Ecole Massillon for administrative purposes and in EBI for his educational tuition. The Ecole Massillon manages the administrative part of your child’s education and enrollment. It allows you to have official documents such as school attendance certificates and insurance certificates. Furthermore, the monitoring and management of absences, lateness and general discipline is under the responsibility

of the Ecole Massillon administration office,

the "Vie Scolaire".

Your child’s enrollment in EBI means that the EBI school will be responsible for the teaching and educational support of your child. He/she will, therefore, be in class with EBI teachers for all subjects apart from sport, music and fine arts, which are taught by teachers from

Ecole Massillon.

Bretagne .

♦ Administration: 5, rue Bansac.

Entrance and exit : Students are required to be in the classroom at 8 am or 8.55 am. School day finishes at 4pm or 5pm. Students must always arrive and leave using the gate on Avenue de Grande-Bretagne, except at certain times : if arriving or leaving at 11am,

1pm, 3pm, 6pm they must use the entrance on rue Bansac. If students are late, or if the gate on Avenue de Grande-Bretagne is closed, they must use the entrance on rue

Bansac.

Given his grade, each child has a specific time-table. It is important to respect the schedule for security reasons. The entrance

School supplies : the list of supplies for each Grade is available on the EBI

website.

These supplies should be purchased

after your arrival as some materials are

specific to France. They can be found

in most hypermarkets as well as in

specialized stationery stores.

If necessary, we can recommend some

supply stores in the city center. Just

next to the school there is a small store

called « Mistral Gagnant » where you

can find many of the supplies.

School books : books are provided by

the school and must be given back at

the end of the year.

Each student is required to make a returnable general damage/

loss deposit of 50 €, in the form of a cheque (payable to AMPEI). This deposit will only be cashed and used in the case of : - loss of book(s) - damage to book(s)

- damage to school material or facilities. If the total value of damage/loss exceeds the deposit, the student

will be billed for the difference.

Your child will be given several administrative documents to be completed during the first week of classes and

returned to the Year Tutor.

We can provide help with the completion

of these documents.

At the beginning of the school year we advise you to get a medical certificate from your doctor giving permission for your child to participate in sports activities. Please keep this document plus a photocopy. This certificate is necessary to take part in sports events outside normal school hours. Moreover, you will be given a booklet containing important documents to be signed (e.g.emergency contacts, image

rights, permission to go on outings...).

The International school website gives you information about the

organization of EBI:

http://www.ebi-clermont.fr/

First and foremost, the “règlement intérieur” of Massillon applies to all students.

At the beginning of each school year this will be read and discussed with each class. The EBI school's code of conduct is based on two major principles which all members of the

school endeavour to follow:

♦ Be Respectful towards yourself, other people and property.

♦ Be Safety conscious

The complete Code of Conduct will be given to all students at the beginning of the school year. It can be found in the Carnet de Liaison. Both students and parents sign this

document to acknowledge their agreement with the school policy and rules.

Class/Grade assignment:

For administrative purposes, the E.B.I student is assigned to a specific class at the Massillon school and to a Grade

class at the EBI.

End of school day:

Each student has a timetable (given on the first day of school by the Year

teacher).

Depending on your child’s class time-table, you will be told at what time you can pick him up after class on the first

day.

In case you arrive in the middle of the

school year, the address of the school is :

5 rue Bansac, Clermont-Ferrand. On the

first day, please proceed to the welcome

desk (located on your right in the

entrance hall) and ask for either

Christine JULLIENNE (EBI Principal) or for

the EBI Principal's assistant. They will

meet you there and take the student to

his /her classroom.

Lockers: each student has a personal

locker in the EBI lobby where he/she can

keep his school supplies. On the first day,

please provide your child with the

required school supplies.

As soon as you know exactly on which day your

child will arrive at school, please email us:

[email protected]

We will then convey this information to the school administration team and to the concerned teachers. Moreover, as soon as you have an

address please inform the E.B.I administration.

Our integration into the Massillon School makes it possible for our EBI students

to be together with the French students for a few subjects as shown below :

*O.I.B: Option Internationale du Baccalauréat. French O.I.B students have the opportunity to take American language/literature and History/Geography classes to get prepared for specific bilingual exams at the Baccalauréat (French High School diploma). This option is opened to them from Grade 6 (French

6ème).

E.B.I students have French classes in their curriculum: FLE classes (Français Langue Etrangère — French as a Foreign Language). They are divided into three levels to match the

needs of each student.

Throughout the school year, pupils are introduced to French cultural events and

traditions or French customs.

FLE teachers have an important role in

welcoming students and their families.

On days when sport is on the time-table, your child will need to bring a bag with a complete sports outfit (sweat pants or shorts depending on the season, a sweat-shirt,

a t-shirt, non marking sport shoes and a bottle of water).

The school has its own gymnasium.

Students are evaluated through continuous assessments (class assignments, tests) and end

of term examinations.

Our marking system is a compromise between the British and the American systems and so the grades are somewhat lower, more demanding

than is normal in the U.S. system.

9th and 10th Grade students also take University of Cambridge UK exams (IGCSE) in most subjects.

These exams are compulsory.

We also offer PSAT, SAT and AP exams (US

College Board external examination).

Daily homework is related to the needs of each student so as to support and extend in school

instruction in a positive and challenging way.

It should not be seen as an end in itself or as a

form of punishment.

The amount of time a student spends on homework should be in accordance with the age and developmental level of the student. Homework encourages an educational

partnership between home and school.

To this end, students should have homework diaries (‘agenda’) where they record their

assignments.

EBI Students are welcome to use the

library where they can study.

A wide range of materials (novels in English and French, school books,

dictionaries…) is available.

The library is for studying,. A quiet,

studious atmosphere must prevail.

The library is closed daily during the following times : 8-8.55, 12:00-13:05

and 16.05-17.00.

Students are only allowed to use the

library when a teacher is present.

We remind the high school students who are allowed to stay in the library during the breaks to respect the fact that it is a

study room.

Meal options(*)

« Externe » student : for students who don’t want to eat at the canteen

everyday (but the possibility is there if needed).

An « Externe surveillé »: student eats at the canteen only on the days stated in his « carnet de liaison ». On these days the student is not allowed

to leave the school during the lunch break.

A « Demi-pensionnaire »: student eats four days per week at the canteen

and is not allowed to leave the school during the lunch break.

The school cafeteria (called ‘le self’ in French) provides a healthy, well-balanced

lunchtime meal.

Your child may eat at the school canteen every day if so desired. All students will be given a canteen card when they arrive. To pay for the canteen, you may send a cheque/check to Ecole Massillon or pay online on the “Ecole Directe” website (see

the “communication with families” section).

Various meal options (*) will be explained in the administrative documents that you

will be given during the first week of school.

♦ « Carnet de liaison »

At the beginning of the school year, students will receive a “carnet de liaison”. Teachers will use this booklet to communicate

with the families. Open and direct communication is essential for the effective operation of a school. In addition, it includes forms for lateness and absences which must be completed and signed by the

parents.

♦ « Ecole Directe »

The « Ecole Directe » website is primarily for the French section of Massillon. However, EBI parents may

use it:

- to communicate with the teachers,

- to make online payments (canteen

and some field trips),

https://www.ecoledirecte.com/

(There is also an Ecole Directe

mobile application).

Parents and students will have an

access code sent to them by mail.

♦ Meetings

Information meetings usually take place at the beginning of the academic year (in September or October). Individual parent/teacher meetings are also organized : the first one will take place at the end of the first term or at the beginning of the second term. If you wish, you may make an appointment with a teacher at any other time if you wish by contacting him/her through “Ecole Directe” or by using your child’s

communication notebook.

Please check your mailbox regularly on Ecole Directe!

Debates

The Ecole Bilingue Internationale places a strong emphasis on the i d e a l s o f i n t e r n a t i o n a l understanding and responsible citizenship and finds that the debating forum is a useful way of encouraging these qualities. We welcome the participation of Massillon O.I.B students to the debates as this further enhances

their multi-cultural nature.

Music and Drama

A Christmas concert with

the Primary students:

The school choir is made up of parents, staff and pupils. The choir is active in the Christmas Concert at

the Cathedral.

Variety Show:

Secondary school students write and perform the not-to-be-missed annual Variety Show under the direction of our EBI teacher, Mr Gerry

Moran.

This takes place in December or January after several weeks of hard work by students and teachers alike. As well as being able to showcase acting, musical and dancing skills, students also help with writing, choreography, directing and sound

engineering.

Student Council

The student body elects a President and Vice-President each year. These students are there, not just to lead, but to reflect the other students’ interests. Each class will also elect a representative, who is then expected to be an active member of the Student Council. Student Council discusses students’ ideas, plans social events, initiates projects and prepares the general

assembly held once a month.

The School organises a variety of field trips

and cultural outings during the school year.

A highlight is the biennial London Theatre Trip, where students spend a week taking in different theatre experiences (including drama workshops at the Globe Theatre of Shakespeare fame). This trip is organized in

September every two years.

Harvard Model Congress Europe, which takes place annually in a major European city, is a simulation of the US Government and of the international organisations. Students are informed in advance about their respective roles, so they can research and prepare for

the Congress.

Students are given the opportunity to work as part of a team to use creative and desktop publishing skills to put together the annual EBI Yearbook. This publication, provides a wonderful souvenir of friends

and school activities.

Every year, the parents’ association (APEL) organizes a Fall Buffet in late September or early October. It is a real family event that brings the whole E.B.I and Massillon Community together : each family shares dishes from their home
