My dear Parishioners,

Now that our Parish has a Social Justice Commission and

since we have a well defined explanation of its purpose, as

drawn up by Tiffany Harlow, Esq., its Chair, we need to ex-

amine more closely its operation. As in the case of the other

two commissions, Worship and Education/Formation, the

Social Justice Commission, while it consists of several mem-

bers, is not expected to represent the Parish in carrying out

the parish’s social justice mission. The Commission assists

us in focusing on the current social justice issues that con-

front our society and in taking action in their regard. The

pressing issues of race relations, immigration, human exploi-

tation, unemployment, homelessness and the destruction of

the environment, to name a few, must concern us all and, as

a Christian community, we are bound by Gospel mandate to

work for change. As Blessed Pope Paul VI said: “We are all

responsible for our times and for our brothers and sisters.”

There are many modes of encounter when we deal with sin-

ful social structures. Some may be able simply to pray; oth-

ers may blog or take advantage of other avenues of social

media; others my join social justice movements or peaceful

demonstrations; still others may lobby lawmakers for

change. In some instances, our Parish as a believing commu-

nity may, in a united way, take a public stance against some

form of injustice in our society. Hopefully, we will now be

able to look to our Social Justice Commission to challenge

and encourage us in this urgent effort to make the Kingdom

of God a greater reality in the lives of our sisters and broth-

ers, in our society and in our world.

—Fr. Jerome, C.P.

pecadores no arrepentidos.

solas. Si te hace caso has salvado a tu hermano.

doy gracias porque me has escuchado.

Yo sé que tú me escuchas siempre”

(Jn 11,41-12). Y cuando le presenta

las suplicas de la comunidad que ora

con El, Dios acoge su intercesión

salvadora con atención. Participe de los eventos de septiembre. Por favor confirme
