Welcome to CWC 2012Hello and welcome to CWC 2012! Our aim today is to provide an opportunity for women throughout our region to hear good Bible teaching and to encourage each other from God's Word. Here is our program for the day.

9 am Registration9:30 am Session 110:40 am Morning tea11:00 am Session 212:20 pm Group discussion12:40 pm Lunch1:40 pm Session 33:30 pm Close

Today we are taking a close look at Proverbs 31 and considering this portrait of a truly amazing woman of God. Susan Ravenhall will help us understand the context of Proverbs and how God can enable us to ‘laugh at the days to come’ (Proverbs 31:25). Susan has a background in high school chaplaincy, and is now involved in ministry at Young Presbyterian Church while raising her young family with her husband, Tim.

CWC is organised and hosted by a team of evangelical Christian women as a non-denominational event. If you would like to make comments on the feedback form it will help future conferences to continue to be both relevant and effective.

The CWC committee this year is Kate Bracks, Bec Choi, Margo Clarke, Pauline Haydon (Chairperson), Kath Henderson and Annie Johnson. If you would like information about any aspect of CWC, please contact Pauline on [email protected]. You can also find details about CWC on our website at www.orangecwc.org.au.

The Barnabas FundThe Barnabas Fund is an international, interdenominational Christian aid agency. It was founded in 1993 as a small charity in the UK, and is now active in most countries throughout the world.

“The mission of the Barnabas Fund is to support Christians where they are in a minority and suffer discrimination, oppression and persecution as a consequence of their faith. Our goal is to strengthen Christian individuals, churches and their communities by providing material and spiritual support in response to needs identified by local Christian leaders.

We do this by making their needs known to Christians around the world, by encouraging prayer and financial giving in support of these brothers and sisters in Christ, working with existing local Christian organisations, and by speaking on their behalf. The Fund channels this aid from donors to the needy recipients with minimum overheads. All gifts are monitored to ensure they are used in line with the stated need.

In accordance with Biblical teaching, we believe that Christians should treat all people of all faiths with love and compassion, even those who persecute them.” (From www.barnabasfund.org)

Our donation today will be given to the Victims of Violence program. This program helps those who are facing direct physical threats because they align themselves with Christ. Funds may be used for providing food and medical aid, personal visits from Barnabas staff and legal support where appropriate.

You can find more information and sign up for prayer news at the Barnabas Fund website, www.barnabasfund.org.

Always enoughIn a dry and weary land,Lord, You are the rain.In a sea of shattered ones,Your love comes rushing in.

You hold the world Within Your handsAnd see each tear that falls.Through every fire and every storm,You're always enough, Always enough.

ChorusYour love is peace to the broken,Faith for the widow,Hope for the orphan,Strength for the weak.Your love is the anthem of nations,Rings out through the ages,And You're always enough for me.

You keep my heart in perfect peace. My life is in Your hands. When confusion hides my way,You're always enough,Always enough.

Chorus

I rejoice, for my Saviour reigns!I rejoice, for He lives in me!God on high He has set me freeAnd worthy is the Lord!

Chorus

In a dry and weary land,Lord, You are the rain.

Amazing grace (My chains are gone)

Amazing grace,How sweet the soundThat saved a wretch like me.I once was lost but now I'm found,Was blind but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught My heart to fear,And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appearThe hour I first believed.

ChorusMy chains are gone!I've been set free!My God, my Saviour Has ransomed me.And like a flood, His mercy reigns,Unending love, amazing grace.

11

The Lord has promised good to me.His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion beAs long as life endures.

Chorus (repeat)

The earth shall soon Dissolve like snow,The sun forbear to shine. But God, who called me here below,Will be forever mine. Will be forever mine,You are forever mine.

Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your nameIn the land that is plentiful,Where Your streams of Abundance flow:Blessed be Your name.

Blessed be Your name,When I’m found in the desert place.Though I walk through the wilderness:Blessed be Your name.

ChorusEvery blessing You pour out I’llTurn back to praise. When the darkness closes in, Lord,Still I will say:Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Blessed be Your name!Blessed be the name of the Lord!Blessed be Your glorious name!

Blessed be Your name,When the sun’s shining down on me.When the world’s all as it should be:Blessed be Your name.

Blessed be Your name,On the road marked with suffering.Though there’s pain in the offering:Blessed be Your name.

Chorus

Bridge (repeat)You give and take away. You give and take away.My heart will choose to say:Lord, blessed be Your name.

Last chorus (repeat)Blessed be the name of the Lord!Blessed be Your name!Blessed be the name of the Lord!Blessed be Your glorious name!

By faith

By faith we see the hand of GodIn the light of creation's grand design,In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness,Who walk by faith and not by sight.

12

By faith our fathers roamed the earthWith the pow'r of His promise in their hearts,Of a holy city built by God's own hand,A place where peace and justice reign.

ChorusWe will stand as children of the promise. We will fix our eyes on Him, our soul's reward.‘Till the race is finished and the work is done,We'll walk by faith and not by sight.

By faith the prophets saw a dayWhen the longed-for Messiah would appear,With the pow'r to break the chains of sin and death,And rise triumphant from the grave.

By faith the church was called to goIn the pow'r of the Spirit to the lost,To deliver captives and to preach good newsIn ev'ry corner of the earth.

Chorus

By faith the mountain shall be movedAnd the pow'r of the gospel shall prevail. For we know in Christ all things are possible,For all who call upon His name.

ChorusChorus (repeat last line)

Christ alone

My gracious Lord Jesus,To You alone I cling.Your love and Your mercy,In tribute I will sing. You alone bring salvation; You alone can redeem. You alone gave me hopeWhen I was lost in my sin.

My Saviour, Lord Jesus,You gave up all for me.You owned all my failingsWhen nailed upon the tree. You alone faced the anger; You alone felt the pain. You alone rescued me,In love You bore my shame.

My Master, Lord JesusI will do all You say.Though this world calls loudly,It's You I will obey. You alone are Almighty; You alone, my true King. You alone are the one,The Lord of everything.

You alone are Almighty,You alone, my true King. You alone are the one,The Lord of everything.

Christ be in my waking

Christ be in my wakingAs the sun is rising,In my day of working,With me every hour.Christ be in my restingAs the day is ending,Calming and refreshing,Watching through the night.

Christ be in my thinkingAnd my understanding,Guarding me from evil,Walking in the light.Christ be in my speaking,Every word a blessing,Pure and not deceiving,Grace to all who hear.

Highest place

Jesus Christ, in very nature, God,Did not grasp hold of His place on the throne,But took on the nature of a servant,Made Himself nothing, Born as a man.

Being found in appearance as a man,He was obedient to death On a cross. There He died,God, the Son, the Maker,A humble servant, showing the way.

ChorusTherefore God exalted HimTo the highest placeAnd gave Him The Name above all names. So that at the name of JesusEvery knee should bow,In heaven and on earthAnd under the earth. And every tongue confessThat Jesus is LordTo the glory of God, the Father.

Repeat all

And every tongue confessThat Jesus is LordTo the glory of God, the Father

Joyful, joyful we adore Thee

Joyful, joyful we adore TheeGod of glory, Lord of love.Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,Opening to the sun above.

15

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,Drive the dark of doubt away.Giver of immortal gladness,Fill us with the light of day.

All Thy works with joy surround Thee.Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays.Stars and angels sing around Thee,Centre of unbroken praise.Field and forest, vale and mountain,Flowery meadow, flashing sea,Chanting bird and flowing fountainCall us to rejoice in Thee.

ChorusWhat joy You bring to my soul!No matter what trial or darkest despair! The joy of mercy so sweet;Of grace that abounds Through Christ on the cross. How great and glorious is my God!

Thou art giving and forgiving,Ever blessing, ever blest.Wellspring of the joy of living,Ocean depth of happy rest.Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,All who live in love are Thine.Teach us how to love each other,Lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals join the mighty chorusWhich the morning stars began.Father love is reigning o'er us,Brother love binds man to man.Ever singing, march we onward,Victors in the midst of strife.Joyful music lifts us sunward,In the triumph song of life.

Mighty to save

Oh Lord, my God,I cried to You for mercy And You heard me.Oh Lord, my God, You rescued me from the grave.

Chorus And You are mighty,The Lord is mighty. You are Mighty.Call to the Lord, He is mighty to save.

Oh Lord, my God I cry to You for help, And You heal me.Oh Lord, my God, You wash me whiter than snow.

Chorus

He turned my mourning to dancing,Sorrow to joy,Silence to singing,And I will praise His nameForevermore.

16

My hope is built

My hope is built on nothing lessThan Jesus' blood and righteousness. No merit of my own I claim,But wholly trust in Jesus' name.

ChorusOn Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand

When long appears my toilsome race,I rest on His unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale,My anchor holds within the veil.

Chorus

His oath, His covenant, His blood,Support me in the ‘whelming flood. When every earthly prop gives way,He then is still my strength and stay.

Chorus

When the last trumpet voice shall sound,Oh may I then in Him be found,Robed in His righteousness alone,Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ the solid rock I stand,All other ground is sinking...All other ground is sinking...All other ground is sinking sand.

Never alone

We're not alone, For Christ is here.Immanuel, Our God come near. We're not alone, For to our worldJesus has come, Eternal Word. And as He speaks, Our souls laid bare,Naked, ashamed, Sin is made clear. And yet He clothes us In His Love.Never alone: Christ is with us, is with us

The longest walk, Earth's darkest day,The pressing crowd,His mounting pain,A heavy load Of grief and shame,Breathless that we Should breathe again.‘Father, forgive them,’ Comes His cry.Silence from God Blackens the sky.A creeping dread In every heart.Lost in the world: Now God departs, God departs.

The dawn will come, The sun will rise.Out of the grave We'll see hope's light.Tomb opened wide,

17

Stone rolled away,Morning has come: A brand new day.‘He isn't here,’ The angel said.‘He is alive. No longer dead!’Our hearts are lifted,Souls raised high.Christ is with us:Christ is our life, He's our life.

‘Never alone,’ Is now our cry,In joy, in grief, in lonely sin.‘Never alone,’ For Christ is ours.He lives in us,We live in Him.And 'til we reach That final dayWhen fears are gone,Cast far away,We'll live secure, Trust in His Love.Never alone: Christ is with us, He's with us.

See, what a morning!

See, what a morning, Gloriously brightWith the dawning of hope in Jerusalem.Folded the grave-clothes, Tomb filled with light

As the angels announce,‘Christ is risen!’See God’s salvation plan,Wrought in love,Born in pain, paid in sacrifice.Fulfilled in Christ the Man,For He lives:Christ is risen from the dead!

See, Mary weeping where He is laid,As in sorrow she turns From the empty tomb.Hears a voice speaking,Calling her name:It’s the Master, the Lord,Raised to life again. The voice that spans the years,Speaking life, stirring hope,Bringing peace to us,Will sound ‘til He appears. For He lives:Christ is risen from the dead!

One with the Father, Ancient of DaysThrough the Spirit who Clothes faith with certainty.Honour and blessing,Glory and praise,To the KingCrowned with pow’r and authority. And we are raised with Him,Death is dead, love has won,Christ has conquered. And we shall reign with Him,For He lives:Christ is risen from the dead!

We belong to the day

We belong to the day,To the day that is to come,When the night falls away,And our Saviour will return. For the glory of the King Is in our hearts. On that day we will be seen For what we are.

We belong to the day,Let us journey in the light.Put on faith, put on love,As our armour for the fight. And the promise of salvation In our eyes.On that day the proud will fall, The faithful rise.

ChorusStrong as a mighty rock,Our refuge in the coming wrath,The heart of the bride belongsTo Jesus, Jesus. The earth in its turning stopsTo marvel at the Son of God,And all of that day belongsTo Jesus, Jesus.

We belong to the day.We were bought with Jesus' blood.Soon He comes as the Judge,In the power of His Word.We must tell of His salvation While we wait. For the day when Jesus comes Will be too late.

BridgeOh, if ten thousand years go by,We will wait,Let us tell of His great love.He will come,For His patience means salvation.

Chorus (repeat last two lines)

Jill Williams is our speaker next year and will focus on the Book of Hebrews. She spends most of her work time as the Assistant Minister at Five Dock Anglican Church in Sydney and lecturing at Mary Andrews College.

Was there a decisive moment or turning point for you in deciding to go into full time ministry?

I really got into it gradually. I was waiting to start a midwifery course and decided to drop to part-time work and use the other time to begin following up some people from church. The minister found out what I was doing, starting meeting with me, asked me to work one day, then two, then to postpone midwifery and then give up on doing that all together! That was the real crunch decision as the course was part of preparing for the mission field. Which way would I go? That was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make.

What are you looking forward to in studying Hebrews?

Hebrews presents Jesus in a way that you say, “Wow! God's been at work for thousands of years bringing all this about!” Jesus is the pinnacle of all God's been doing and as His followers we're caught up in His great plan too. There are deep things about Jesus to ponder all the way through, and great urgency in challenging us to keep persevering no matter how hard it all gets.

Thank you for coming to CWC and spending the day with us. CWC 2013 should be a time of great encouragement, so why not bring a friend who hasn’t been before, or organise a group from church? If you would like more information, contact Pauline on [email protected].
