If you like the sound of Darlington Court but would like the chance for your loved one to try it for themselves before making any commitment, talk to us about our trial days or afternoons.

All the members of our care team receive regular training to ensure that they are up-to-date with good care practice, including the latest techniques in supporting people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

We’ve recently opened a brand new suite with spacious and beautifully decorated rooms. The stunning

new suite, arranged across the two themes of ‘garden’ and ‘seaside’ boasts its own dining room, two lounges and two bright and airy conservatories.

We understand that having a loved one move into a care home can be a big change for all the family. That’s why

we provide help and advice if you need emotional or practical support or if you want to discuss ways of continuing to play a key role in your loved one’s day-to-day care.

We believe in supporting each resident and their family in any way we can, especially as their needs change over time.

We offer 24/7 telephone access and you can visit at any time of the day or night. We are as keen as you to create a happy, fulfilling life for your loved one.

Our priority is to give your loved one the best of care while helping you both to enjoy special moments together - the quality time that you may have lost as their needs have changed.

A designated member of the team works with each new resident, taking time to get to know them and understand their likes and dislikes in order to design a unique care plan that’s suited to their exact needs.

Good food with great friends

Meal times are always a big event at Darlington Court. They’re a chance to savour the tasty, always changing menus put together by our dedicated chefs – and to chat with friends or family.

Our chefs pride themselves on creating menus using carefully selected, fresh ingredients, with a focus on choice and nutrition, but above all, taste. We’ve plenty to tempt the most fastidious of appetites and our chefs enjoy chatting to residents to discover more about their likes and dislikes.

Our care team ensure that all residents are provided with regular drinks and snacks. However if residents would like to prepare their own drink or

snack, then that’s not a problem, our care teams can support residents to use the kitchen areas themselves, whenever they wish.

Our chefs are always cooking up something special to celebrate a

birthday, anniversary or occasion - big or small. They’re also very happy to cater for special diets, including cultural requirements. Fresh fruit, snacks and refreshments are also available 24 hours a day.

The chefs at Darlington Court pride themselves on producing fresh, seasonal and delicious meals every day. What’s more, there’s always a good selection of tasty snacks and cakes on offer throughout the day - or night.

Comfort and warmth

Our care home is built over two floors and the entire home is wheelchair accessible. Each floor has its own dining room and choice of lounges, creating an intimate community atmosphere. Having a range of lounges means that there’s plenty of space for anything residents want to do - take part in activities, catch up with family and friends or have some quiet time reading a book or newspaper.

Each room is comfortably furnished and has a TV point plus a 24-hour nurse call system. Residents are welcome to bring their own possessions or items of furniture to help them feel completely at home.

Darlington Court is full of small details to enhance the homely feel of the space, including lots of retro items and

local elements. Our new residential suite, for example, highlights the home’s proximity to the seaside with a relaxing beach and garden theme.

A beautiful outlook

In warmer months the patio area is the perfect place to sit and relax in the sunshine with a cup of tea, read a newspaper or feed the birds.

Throughout the home you’ll spot lots of little touches designed with your loved one’s comfort, relaxation and entertainment in mind. There are cosy, intimate lounges and sitting areas where they can relax and spend time with you.

All the comfort of home

Activity based care is at the heart of everything we do at Darlington Court. Every resident is encouraged to carry on enjoying the hobbies and interests they love. Of course, we’re guided by residents, and wouldn’t dream of making someone do anything they don’t want to. However, those who do join in often discover new talents or just enjoy getting to know other residents through the many individual

and group activities laid on by our resourceful care teams.

Helping out around the home

Although we have planned daily activities, we also help residents continue doing those everyday things they used to do. It helps to maintain a sense of independence as well as a sense of routine.

So if your loved one used to do DIY around the house, our maintenance team are happy to get them involved in helping to put up a shelf. If your loved one was a keen gardener there are always jobs to do outside, or plants to feed and water inside the home.

You name it, we do it: from baking and cake decorating to afternoon film shows and a variety of arts and crafts. We also organise regular reminiscence sessions, singalongs, games and quizzes.

Of course, everyone has a choice, and is free to opt out of any activity we’re doing – if they just want to watch an activity, that’s fine. We also ensure that anything they do want to do is always entirely safe and within their abilities.

We call it Activity Based Care. It’s simply about helping residents to stay active and independent and continue making decisions for themselves – whether about their care or the activities we do.

Keeping active and having fun

If residents are keen to try a new interest, we’re more than happy to support them with whatever they need to get started. It all comes down to helping residents to continue doing all the great things they used to do before they joined us – and more.

Popular activities at Darlington Court include music therapy, reminiscence sessions and baking. Residents also get the chance to test their hand at ten-pin bowling, as a mobile skittles alley regularly comes to the home.

Everyone loves a sing-along and a dance, and we have regular visits from entertainers that perform songs from a range of eras that all the residents enjoy.

There is always a huge sense of anticipation when the Pets as Therapy animals are due to visit and every

month Pat the dog comes along for cuddles with the residents.

Everyone enjoys our one-to-one and group outings. We have lots of little shops close by, as well as a supermarket. We also take trips to the seaside and to garden centres with tea shops.

We like to eat out from time to time and residents enjoy having dinner at the restaurant based in the nearby supermarket on some evenings. On special occasions, we prepare themed dishes such as haggis on Burn’s Night and a cake with the English flag on St George’s Day. On our film nights, we have hot dogs and popcorn for dinner.

Our activities co-ordinator plays a key part in getting to know residents’ interests and hobbies and the jobs they used to do so they can plan a variety of activities and outings to suite all tastes.
