Welcome to Edith’s dream UK Newsletter 2 To provide effective and affordable health care to the people of

Mbengwi Cameroon in Africa Our Vision is to give hope to the less privileged,

making a difference in the health of individuals and

families living in poverty in Mbengwi and the

surrounding villages in Cameroon

Our mission is to save and prolong life as well as

increasing health education so people know what to

do when they become ill.

Collection of Equipment and Shipping to Cameroon Over a period of months we were overwhelmed by the kindness of local hospitals, nursing homes and individuals in and around Weston-super-Mare which donated hospital beds, mattresses, commodes, and other goods that were required in the health centre. In August 2012 a 40 foot container was loaded with these donated items and then shipped across to Cameroon. Edith then greeted the container and transferred it to Mbengwi – a long journey across Cameroon. Below are pictures of the staff receiving the container and unloading the goods in Mbengwi:

A major part of the work to ensure that people in the area access health care is to go out to the surrounding villages to educate people on how to take care of their health and to monitor for diabetes, high blood pressure and other common conditions that can be treated early. This work commenced in January 2013

Staffing When Edith was visiting in September 2012 she undertook interviews and employed nurses, healthcare assistants, laboratory staff and other necessary staff to run the health centre. These joined the Healthcare Manager (Lillian) who commenced work in October 2011 and reports monthly to Edith’s dream on their progress and the use of the funds that we send monthly. We were unable to afford to employ a Doctor but on Edith’s recent visit (March 2013) she was approached by a local Doctor who wants to donate his time to the centre with us just needing to fund his expenses – this was a real encouragement of how the Lord is blessing this work. He will do one or two sessions per month while we work to increase our funding to allow us to pay him for more sessions.

What next? 1. We applied for the health centre to be

registered in September 2012 and received the final documentation in Cameroon to allow the health centre to be fully opened on May 16 2013 Praise God

2. We have started to treat patients and do outreach work and the next stage is the certificate of opening and we plan the Official Opening in November 2013 when the trustees and others will be visiting Cameroon to see the progress

3. Edith’s Dream UK has been approved by the Charity Commission in May 2013 to be registered charity

4. We will be holding a fundraising event in September 2013 at St Paul’s Church – DETAILS TO FOLLOW

5. We still need more hospital equipment, especially hospital mattresses (we have 16 hospital beds which do not have mattresses) and hope to ship these out as soon as we receive them

6. We now have staff to operate the health centre but need more regular financial donations to allow us to pay them all and to continue to grow the work WHY NOT BECOME A FRIEND OF EDITH’S DREAM AND SET UP REGULAR GIVING

7. We will be visiting the Grace Foundation Trust in November 2013 and if you are interested in coming with us please do contact us

Edith donates all she can into this project because she understands the impact it has on real lives in a remote community. Simply every £ counts:

£1 will pay for the consultation fees for a patient.

£5 will treat a child with malaria £10 treats a child with malnutrition £25 will pay for a cervical screen test £50 provides a pre-treatment screen test for

HIV/AIDS £133 pays for a registered nurse for a month £250 will support the team going into the

community £750 pays a Doctors salary for a month

We welcome any donation however large or small but a regular donation is particularly helpful as it helps us to plan ahead to meet the monthly commitments of providing this health care. Regular Giving If you are able to commit to a regular payment, however small, please visit our Website www.edithsdream.org and follow the instructions on the “donate now” page OR setup a standing order using the bank details below. Alternatively make a cheque payable to “Edith’s Dream” NatWest Bank, Sort code 60-23-32, Account Name Edith’s Dream UK, Account number 81420021.
