Background

• Dual enrolled at Co-lin• Graduated with a Bachelors of

Arts degree in Speech Communication in 2007 from Southern Miss.

• Graduated with a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Belhaven University in 2010.

Course Description• English II- 10th grade is designed to prepare students for success in the Mississippi Common Core State Standard. In this course we will focus on: building close-reading skills; using reading and processing strategies to think through poetry and prose; and developing skills for composing literary analysis.

Grades

You will have a minimum of 10

daily grades, 5 test grade, and 1

exam grade per semester.

Daily grades- 25%

Test grade- 50%

 Required Materials: One inch 3 Ring Binder

Loose-leaf paper Dividers Pens (blue or black) Highlighters

Please remember that all supplies may need to be replenish throughout the year.

Tardy You will be expected to be in

my class by the time the tardy bell finish ringing. If not, you will receive a tardy that will include one day of detention.

Bellwork Bell work is assigned

every day during the first 5 minutes of class. Bell work will be turned in on a daily basis to check for accuracy and completion.

 

Make-up work If you miss a day of class, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to retrieve your make-up work. All make-up work will be posted in your class period folder.

Late work If late work is accepted on a given assignment, the highest grade that you can make is a 70. Therefore, EVERY effort should be made to turn assignments in on time. NO EXCEPTIONS!

BathroomThe schedule is designed with an ample amount of

time for you to use the bathroom during transition. It is your responsibility to use the bathroom during that time. I will not give a

bathroom pass during class.

Leaving the class Unless there is an emergency, I will not give passes

to leave my class.

Classroom rules

You must abide by ALL SCHOOL RULES that are found in

the student handbook. In addition, you must abide by

the posted classroom rules and procedures.

Pay attention

Ask questions

Ipods, cellphone, games, etc. are not allowed

Gum, candy, drinks, and snacks are not allowed

Encourage yourself and others

Classroom procedures

• Enter and leave the classroom quietly and promptly.

• Sharpen pencils and throw away trash BEFORE class begins.

• RAISE your hand and wait to be acknowledge before speaking.

• The BELL does not dismiss you, I do. (Do not pack-up anticipating the bell.)

Testing Procedures

• ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING DURING TEST• If you are caught talking you will be given a

ZERO.• CHEATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. If you

are caught cheating you will be given a zero and a parent conference will be scheduled through the office.

• Let’s look at the Parent, teacher, and student contact.

• This should be brought back signed by you and your parents.

• This will be your first daily grade. If it is not brought back by FRIDAY, they highest grade you can receive is a 70. After that you will loose 10pts. Per day.

• Important information form is due back on FRIDAY. It should be brought back SIGNED.

• You have 2 assignments to complete. Each assignment is worth 50 pts. for a total of 100 pts.

• You have until 12:00 am Sunday Morning to reply.
