As Cattle producers, our industry will always see the glass half full, and we are definitely planning with that in mind. Aleta, the lads and I are very grateful for your interest in our program, sincerely thanking you for your past support and loyalty to our program and progressive breeding strategies. We highly value your decision to use our genetics and your resulting success inspires us to continuously add and improve our offering.

In honour of the 50th Anniversary of Mankind’s moon landing in 1969, & an event that lends a historical perspective to ranchers and herders the world over…who hasn’t stood and stared at that wonderful spectacle out there in time and space? The bulls are named to commemorate the words and sentiments that entered our language and truly ushered in an age of difference, between the production of food in an ancient, time honoured keeping of stock and the beginning of a technology boom that changed our world drastically in these last years. As we begin a new decade, everyone in agriculture is starting to see these changes in our daily lives, thru our livestock business, equipment, soil & land, communications/social media and we think it is paramount that we as producers definitively adapt and change where necessary to meet the demands of our marketplace, while keeping productivity, efficiency, and our traditions firmly planted in the ground we work on.

We are beginning to see the cow herd grow again in British Columbia, with the last 5 years showing an increase of 11.7% and that trend is expected to continue, perhaps not back to historical numbers yet, but certainly where the utilization of our stock producing land is once again providing promising growth for our younger, aspiring ranchers!

Bulls From the Heart Our mainstay focus remains the same,

the commercial cow/calf producer, and their ability to annually improve

their bottom line. This drive continues our quest to produce

easy fleshing, muscular cattle, with strong maternal traits, on

great feet, leading to strong performance & profitability through their easy calving offspring. To make the first cut on the path to our bull sale, the calf must have the vigour and get up and go that our buyers expect. We continuously invest in walking Sires, only using AI

on previously proven bulls. This insures we are

A: offering bulls that are dependable with real world

functionality, and B: we can stand behind both the

fertility and genetic attributes. This year we are introducing bulls from a new

Calving Ease sire, RSL Tapout 163C to our Herd Sire Groups.

We have some changes this year to our sale, we have invited our friends Todd & Pam from Schochaneetqua Angus to join us in this endeavour of bringing top notch Bull Power to the sale. We are excited to be working with them and hope that all our past, present & future customers will appreciate having their offering here as well.

We would like to extend a very sincere thank you to all our help at the home ranch in the past year from our nephew Wyatt Strachan banging wrenches & wrangling calves, our night watch calving gal Shelby Meaden, to our newest hand & BCHSRA young cowboy Justin Harris!

BULLS FROM THE HEARTCALVING EASE GUIDECalving Ease is often related to the birth weight of a bull, and while this is partly true, there are other factors that influence CE. The dam and her management are at least 50% to 60% of the CE. The consistency & consideration of the following will also influence birth weight.

* BW’s of the sire and dam* BW epd* CE & Maternal CE epd* Sires calving inclinations* Sires physical confirmation* Nutrition, gestation, environment & latitude* Breed composition* Hybrid vigour

We rate each bull in the sale based on our recorded information & personal knowledge of our herd . Each year, one of the more frequent questions is which of bulls will work best on their heifers? Of course, only that person inherently knows their own heifers enough to make that call. We try our best toevaluate each bull in our sale to assist you in your choices, using our guidelines of:

* Cow Bull, recommended for Cows only, not recommended for Heifers** For use on Cows & larger framed Heifers*** Recommended for Heifers

In light of the reconfiguration of the EPD’s of only Red Angus at the CAA over the last two years, and though the fact that the transition is far from complete, we have still decided to begin this year using the same Angus One EPD’s. It will however continue to take a number of years until all the data is wholly and completely comparable between Blacks & Reds as the sample size from the Reds is exponentially less across North America. You may notice in other catalogues, the use of different “base” mathematical number models, that achieve varying sets of EPD numbers, many that probably provide estimate progeny numbers closer to how Angus One comparable #’s will eventually be. We now feel it is in our customers interests to begin using the same base so eventually here in Canada we will have a fully and completely useable EPD numbers system for Angus. For Red cattle, it isn’t perfect, but it’s what we have for now. If you have any questions, please contact us or come find us at the sale.

The day we first viewed Bravo we knew the search was over. Bravo caught our eye immediately and upon close inspection was the bull we’d been looking for! His breed character along with flawless structure and phenotype absolutely blew us away. He also had a gentle demeanor and that “wow factor” we had been searching for. As always, Heart of the Valley guarantees to sell you a bull that is structurally sound, and has passed a semen test done by a licensed veterinarian.

Should any Heart of the Valley bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder and unable to physically service a female, an adjustment will be made to reflect the value of the bull in question – or a credit will be given towards the purchase of another bull from Heart of the Valley at our discretion. Things do go wrong sometimes and we will be there to back up our sale guaranteed. So you can be rest assured that we will provide you with a sound breeding bull, and we will be there to assist you should a problem arise.

We will however not provide replacement, adjustment or credit for any physical injury, sickness, mismanagement, damaged testicles or deterioration of semen quality after a successful test.

Semen: Heart of the Valley and Schochaneetqua both reserve the right to collect semen on any of their respective bulls sold through this sale for in herd use only, unless otherwise stated. This semen will be collected at the seller’s expense and at the buyer’s convenience.

Certificate of Registry: A Registration Certificate and transfer for each registered bull will be sent to the buyer after full payment has been settled.

Buyer Registration: Buyers please register for a buyer number with the clerks at BC Livestock, prior to bidding and purchasing a bull. Online buyers will need to register with DLMS.

Cattle Inspection: All bulls carry permanent ID tags that correspond to sale Lot numbers. All will be available for Inspection prior to the sale.
