On 30 April at 9:15, RTL Group’s Co-CEOs Anke Schäferkordt and Guillaume de Posch, together with CFO Elmar Heggen, “rang the bell” to open trading of RTL Group shares on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The total share capital of RTL Group has now been admitted to the regulated market (Prime Standard) of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, in addition to the existing listings on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and Euronext Brussels.

Through Bertelsmann’s reduction of its shareholding in RTL Group to 75.1 per cent, RTL Group’s free fl oat has increased signifi cantly to 24.1 per cent, providing more liquidity for investors. With its shareholding, Bertelsmann is and will remain a majority shareholder of RTL Group and will continue to support the strategic development of the business, as repeatedly declared by Bertelsmann.

The shares were issued at a price of €55.5 per share on 30 April. At the closing of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on 7 May 2013, RTL Group’s shares were traded at €56.8 per share – up 2.3 per cent compared to the initial price.

RTL Group’s Executive Committee had invited 30 guests – among them several colleagues from RTL Group and Bertelsmann who were all deeply involved in the project, key advisors from banks and law fi rms – to celebrate this important milestone in the company’s history. “Following our successful listing and on behalf of everyone at RTL Group, we’d like to thank the advisors for their hard work, dedication and invaluable advice over the past few months,” Anke Schäferkordt and Guillaume de Posch said in a joint statement.

Group CFO Elmar Heggen added: “We would like to thank all the employees at RTL Group who have been involved in this project. It has been a challenging three to four months, with a tight timetable and a lot of work, and your efforts have been greatly appreciated. Without your support, dedication and commitment this journey would never have been completed.”

Before the fi rst price appeared on the screens, Gregor Pottmeyer, CFO of Deutsche Börse AG, welcomed RTL Group: “It is our sincere pleasureto have you here and celebrate the listing of RTL Group’s shares at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange Prime Standard, the segment with the highest transparency standards not only in Germany, but also in Europe. With the entry of your company onto the quotation list, a very successful and widely known – if not to say popular – company comes to our market. Based on a history of almost 100 years, your business model has developed into a leading European entertainment network.”

In a joint statement, the Co-CEOs of RTL Group said about the new listing in Frankfurt: “Together with the increase in RTL Group’s free fl oat, we looked at ways to increase the liquidity of our shares. The importance of Frankfurt as one of the fi nancial centres within Europe combined with the strength of our German operations and RTL’s excellent brand recognition, made the Frankfurt Stock Exchange – one of the world’s largest trading centres – the natural choice for RTL Group.”

Begining mid May, the daily drama Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love) airs in a new outfi t – in the truest sense of the word. Germany – 6 May 2013

Verbotene Liebe gets two new characters from the middle of May, played by actors Julia Sontag and Kristian Kiehling. At the same time the daily drama is undergoing a change of direction, and will tell its story from a completely new, subjective narrative perspective,telenovela-style, in 45-minute daily episodes fi ve days a week from now on. The new narrative revolves around the LCL fashion empire, which serves as a place where members of the privileged von Lahnstein owning family encounter the people who work there.

As part of the preparations for the spectacular fashion show, LCL label boss Tanja von Lahnstein (Miriam Lahnstein) is looking for a new design assistant. Young Martha Wolf (Julia Sontag) sees this as her big chance: she wants to start a career as a fashion designer and leaves her home village to make her dream come true in Dusseldorf. After taking just one look at Martha’s appearance at the interview Tanja von Lahnstein turns her down. But Martha doesn’t give up and in the end her clumsiness helps her get a job as a seamstress at LCL – where she also meets the man of her dreams...

On 25 April, the “Logib D tested” labels to promote equal pay were awarded for the fourth time – and RTL Radio Center Berlin was among the 34 recipients. Germany – 3 May 2013

The “Lohngleichheit im Betrieb – Deutschland” project (“Pay equality in companies – Germany”, or “Logib-D”) was called into being by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Family Affairs to promote equal pay for women and men among German employers. In this connection, it honours companies that strive for gender equality in their HR and compensation policies. “In future, companies that are women- and family-friendly will have a crucial competitive advantage in the demand for skilled labour,” said Hermann Kues, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, at the awards ceremony.

RTL Radio Center Berlin Managing Director Stephan Schmitter is delighted with his company’s excellent performance in the Logib-D analysis process: “Equal pay and appropriate remuneration are important principles of our personnel policy. Even without a quota, almost half of our managers are women because of their performance and qualifi cations. The fact that we won an award in an independent audit shows that we are on the right track.”

The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs praised RTL Radio Center Berlin for having used the Logib-D analysis tool to examine its current salary and personnel structures in depth, and for successfully completing the associated consultation process. It said this means the company serves as a role model, having made equal pay a strategic priority in its operations.

Gert Zimmer, Managing Director RTL Radio Deutschland and a member of the RTL Radio Center Berlin Advisory Board, stresses that diversity management is an important part of modern business management: “We are not talking about company make-overs or PR here. Diversity management is an important business tool for the use of diversity as a resource. The equal treatment of men and women plays a crucial role in this process. We pay very close attention to performance-based and appropriate pay and deliberately ignore gender-specifi c factors. Experience has shown us that the diversity process doesn’t happen automatically, which is why we are all the more pleased to have our efforts acknowledged by this recognition by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs.”

During its fi rst week on RTL Televizijia, Tog se nitko nije sjetio (Pointless) quickly became a national favourite across all Croatian TV channels. The pilot episode, broadcast on 29 April at 19:10, recorded an audience share of 29.1 per cent among the 18 to 49 age group. The most- watched episode was broadcast on Thursday 2 May with an audience share of 32.1 per cent making it the most- watched programme in the target group across all national channels in its timeslot. Compared with the channel’s average 20.4 per cent audience share the week before the show’s fi rst broadcast, an average audience share of 27.2 per cent indicates the show’s competitive edge.

Based on the Endemol format Pointless, the local version is produced in-house by RTL Televizija. RTL Televizija went for a fresh approach by pairing popular host Antonija Blaće with geeky newcomer Krešimir Sučević-Međeral as her witty sidekick. The funny interaction between the duo grants the show a unique and modern look and feel.

Tog se nitko nije sjetio airs weekdays at 19:10 on RTL Televizijia.

Deputy Managing Director of M6 Films, Rémi Jimenez is also in charge of the Group’s youth programmes, starting 1 May 2013. He replaces Morgann Favennec, who leaves the Group after seven years of collaboration.

A graduate of ESCP Europe, Rémi Jimenez joined M6 in 2001. He worked in the acquisitions department as an artistic representative in cinema and was subsequently in charge of purchasing fi lms. Rémi Jimenez served as Deputy Director as of 2007, and was appointed Deputy Managing Director of M6 Films in February 2012.

Christophe Foglio joined Groupe M6 in 2008 as Director of Technological Resources, where he was in charge of Technical Services, Broadcast Continuity, Broadcast Networks, Information Systems and General Services. He is also President of the DTT Multiplex companies Multi 4 and R8.

A graduate of the Ecole Supérieure d’Etudes Cinématographiques, Christophe Foglio began his career at Ex Nihilo in 1987. He joined la Sept/Arte in 1992, then held a variety of positions, fi rst at the TF1 group, then Infosport, followed by Groupe Eurosport in 2000.

Christophe Foglio replaces Delphine Cazaux, who has held this position for almost 11 years and has chosen to pursue her career outside Groupe M6.

VALÉRIE SARN HAS DIED

Valérie Sarn, an emblematic fi gure of RTL Télévision, host and producer, died on Saturday 4 May in Avignon at the age of 72 after a long illness.

First appearing on TMC, as did the late Sophie Hecquet, Valérie Sarn was spotted by Jacques Navadic and arrived in the Grand Duchy in the late 1970s to work at Télé-Luxembourg. She hosted and produced the fl agship programme La Bonne Franquette with Jean Stock during the week and solo at the weekend.

Valérie Sarn was a top-notch professional with an iron will. As a director of variety shows, she brought the stars of French and international song to the Luxembourgish channel, which was renamed RTL Télévision in the early 1980s. She was the channel’s commentator for the Eurovision song contest from 1983 to 1991.

Valérie Sarn retreated to the south of France in the early 1990s to devote herself to her great passion – painting. A dancer by training and a theatre actress in her earlier days, Valérie also distinguished herself as a lyricist, notably by penning the French words to the Beatles hit song Michelle.
