Welcome to Gelvin Valley 2015

This is a manual to help people understand a few things about Gelvin Valley.

Congratulations, you have inherited a farm (and its debt) from your Grandfather's third wife's second cousin's brother. You will have to up 'n' move to Gelvin Valley if you want to run the farm & make something of it.

You have five farms at your disposal. The Dairy Farm, The Sheep Farm, The Free Range Egg Farm, The Beef Farm & The Pig Farm. It's all up to YOU. Good Luck.

The locals are a friendly bunch, and some aren't even that sore on the eye, but, the lovely people of the Valley are renowned for their inability to think of other road users once they are behind the wheel of any vehicle, so be very aware on the roads. Oh yeah, folks are meant to drive on the left around here, but I guess that is optional.

While the fields here are often odd shaped, small to medium sized & either steep or bumpy or both, there are some nice ones among them. The roads, apart from a couple of grade A main roads, are generally narrow, winding, steep & risky, so be careful, especially in SINGLE PLAYER as there is traffic on ALMOST every road.

This area, just like other maps, has places offering pay for your crops. But due to the soil type & terrain of Gelvin Valley crop prices tend to be quite a bit lower than flatland areas. You will have to work hard here to get the farm out of debt & turning a profit. Baled Hay, though, still commands a decent price & can be a good income boost.

Points of Interest

• 1 The Main Farm. This is where the Dairy Cattle(5) are kept, the farm Grain Silos(1) & the Potato(2) & Sugarbeet(3) sheds are. One Silage Pit(4), some sheds & equipment. Feed & bed the Cattle from the central aisle/driveway in shed (5) & also manually remove the solid manure from the slatted animal walkways either side. Collect the slurry from (7). There is also a Fuel Tank(6) for the farm at this location (Guarded by your trusty Alsatian "INSERT NAME HERE" who barks when anyone approaches the tank).

• 2 The Beef Fattening Farm. Two Silage Pits(1), some sheds & equipment. Feed & bed the Calves(2). Feeding is done from the central aisle/driveway. Bedding can be done from the same spot or you can drive in with the livestock at the top end of the shed(4). Also manually remove the solid manure by driving in to the livestock area & collect the slurry from the sump at the rear of the building(4). Inside this shed, on the left towards the back, there is a concrete bunker. This is for Potato & Sugarbeet for the calves. At the front of the shed(3) are two silos. One is for water(the blue one) and the other is for Barley, Wheat or Maize(the green one). This area(3) is also where you pick up the animals ready to be auctioned at the market.

• 3 The Sheep Farm. Collect wool bales from the Wool Pallete Collector(1) here.

• 4 The Sheep Feeding Area. Feed the sheep here(1).

• 5 The Pig Fattening Farm. Feed & bed the pigs (also manually remove the solid manure & collect the slurry). All can be done from the central aisle/driveway, apart from the slurry which is collected from the sump outside at the left hand side of the shed(1). The silos & concrete bunker(visible in the shot below) have the same use as in #(2) The Beef Fattening Farm above.

• 6 Gelvin BioGas. This company gives some of the highest prices for the local quality of the grain, although you will notice Silage doesn't generate the same HIGH income here as other maps. You can tip HERE(1) from a trailer or a front loader into this facility. The company accepts grass_windrow, dryGrass_windrow, wheat_windrow, barley_windrow, silage, forage, wheat, barley, rape, maize, potato, sugarBeet, chaff, & manure. (Like the biogas companies in the original FS2015 maps, there is a limit to the volume of material that can be handled here of 20,000 litres. When this is reached you have to wait for it to be processed some before there is space in the hopper to add more material). Receive the Slurry end product HERE(2).

• 7 Vehicle Shop. New purchases are collected from the front and trade‐ins can be made at the rear.

• 8 Wood Chip Storage. This is where your Wood Chips(1) are stored. The two large fields beside this have been traditionally Forestry allocated, but their use is now up to you (once you own them).

• 9 Gelvin Radio Tower. Just a scenic area really, with a couple hectares of free grass, use as you wish but be careful as you harvest. This area has steep fall offs, sometimes a tractor/combine can get down the hill, but not back up.

• 10 Schooner Beach. Another scenic area.

• 11 Gelvin Valley Garden Centre. This is the ONLY place to buy your Seeds(1) & Saplings(2). They also sell Fuel & Water, probably flowers too... to keep the "other half" happy.

• 12 Ruttledge Farm. This is the Free Range Egg farm. Although not needing much attention (as they are free range), the chickens here basically lay where they wish. So you will have to have a wander around the farm & two nearest fields (19 & 20) to find their eggs. To make it a bit easier, they will only lay eggs in straw piles. If you look closely, the three straw piles in the fields can be just seen. The rest of the eggs will be in straw piles in the farm buildings. There’s also a silage pit at this site (not for the hens, just an extra pit).

• 13 Dunfarmin Wool Graders & Brokers. Sell your wool bales here, inside the blue shed.

• 14 The North East Hill. This is another area of Free Grass, about two hectares. Again, careful harvesting should be applied unless you wish to renew your acquaintance with Big John's Garage & Vehicle Rescue Centre (see#19 below).

• 15 The Two Towers. A long abandoned defense point of years gone by of historical & scenic value only.

• 16 Livestock Auctions Dunfarmin. Sell your Beef & Pigs here(1).

• 16 Livestock Auctions Dunfarmin (Continued). They also will buy Hay Bales & Straw Bales at good prices (first shed on the left on the way in, see #(1) & #(2) below).

• 17 Dunfarmin Town. Say no more.

• 18 The Farm Shop & The Town Merchants. The Farm Shop accepts all Default Grain(1) types & at the rear(2) it sells multiple Fertilizer & Herbicide types (working in co‐ordination with the soil mod). The Town Merchants(3) accept Potato & Sugarbeets. Eggs can be sold at (5) & (6).

• 19 Big Johns' Garage & Vehicle Rescue Centre. This is where ALL your machinery is reset to in event of an emergency. Think of it as "You get stuck & call for help, Big John brings his truck out & tows you away (back to his garage so he can check your equipment over... no pun intended). You then go to Big John's & retrieve your kit."

• 20 Gelvin Bio‐oil Production. These guys are elite, they only want to buy your Canola/Rapeseed, but they do tend to give the best prices for it (although not necessarily all the time). The drop off point is inside the blue roofed shed, beside the white van.

• 21 Gelvin Sawmills. Sell your Trees & Offcuts Here(1).

• 22 Supreme Milk Dairy. Milk is sold automatically on this map.

• 23 Denny's Farm. This is a local neighbouring farm. They are raising Pigs & will buy the following from you (once you tip a load Here(1) it may be some time before they buy again as they have to use at least some of what they have bought first) : Wheat, Barley, Potato, Sugarbeets and Maize. They have a good surplus of Straw so they don't want any of that, nor Hay either. Some Northern Irish of you may well remember "Ding Dong Denny's" or the "Cookstown Sizzle".

• 24 Pheasant Pluckers Inn. They will buy Wheat, Barley & Potato.

• 25 Jonah & Luke's Formula Golf. This is an old race track (it used to have Golf Carts in the 2013 version). Feel free to relax 'n' race some combines etc., whatever you can get on here. Watch out for "the polluted pond" on the way around though.

• 26 East Hills Biomass Energy. You can sell your wood chips to this establishment.

• 27 AAA Stables. Sell your Barley, Maize & Sugarbeet Here(1). Hay Bales & Straw Bales Here(2). (Once you tip a load it may be some time before they buy again as they have to use at least some of what they have bought first.)

• 28 Bannagher Lake Campsite. A Relaxing Scenic Area, enjoy.

• 29 Gelvin Standing Stones. Another scenic area, bathed in ancient history, for visitors to ponder & relax around. Rumour has it some of these stones have long forgotten powers.

• 30 Old Joe's Farm. This is a local neighbouring farm. They are raising Cattle & will buy the following from you (once you tip a load Here(1) it may be some time before they buy again as they have to use at least some of what they have bought first) : Silage, Hay Bales & Straw Bales.

For those who like to add placeable mods, there are about 10 areas of various sizes scattered around the map that have been cleared & leveled, ready for your additions & customisation.

The following are mods that many will find useful playing on this map:

SoilMod ‐ Soil Management & Growth Control (v2.2.x); if you wish to have to deal with weeds, soil nutrients & soil moisture.

PlaceableHeaps (not available on FSUK site use the link below.) https://www.modhoster.com/download/ywh91; if you wish to place manure from the cattle or pigs in the manure pits.

AAA_UniversalProcessKit (not available on FSUK site use the link below.) http://www.modhoster.de/mods/universalprocesskit‐‐2; this is needed to get PlaceableHeaps to work.

OBE_Livestock_Trailer; needed for taking the pigs and/or beef cattle to market.

ZZZ_FeedBales (AKA "Bale Feed Mod"); a handy mod if you wish to feed your animals with hay or bed them with straw manually from the bales.

With regards to the "PlaceableHeaps" mod, I have heard that it can cause lag in multiplayer games. I'm uncertain if this issue has been corrected, but on a quick web search there do seem to be a few other options out there for folks to try. Goodluck!

Extra Info: There are 56 fields (Biggest is 11.83 ha & smallest is 0.4 ha).

They are all priced according to how flat & easy to farm they are ranging through 6 different levels of "flatness."

The flattest & easiest to farm are £40,000/ha through to the roughest to farm at £8000/ha.

You start off with 18 of these fields:

• Field 1 is 1.12 ha & has wheat ready to harvest.

• Field 2 is 2.41 ha & has canola growing.

• Field 3 is 1.03 ha & has grass.




• Field 19 is 0.4 ha & is ploughed.


• Field 25 is 1 ha & has wheat growing.

• Field 26 is 0.6 ha & has wheat growing.

• Field 32 is 1.8 ha & has barley growing.





• Field 42 is 4.2 ha & has grass

• Field 43 is 2 ha & has grass.


These are, in my opinion, the 18 worst fields in the map. The reason they are your starter fields is because "the previous owner sold his/her best fields to try & get out of debt". Basically, if I had given you better start fields, you would have been unlikely to buy any of these for yourself. You will have to aspire to owning better land.

The rest of the fields (which you don't own) are mainly grazed bare with some grass around the ditches. A couple are freshly cultivated.

The only two areas you can mow some sneaky free grass is at the tops of two of the hills(one NE & one NW). There are a couple of ha of mowable grass... but it's a steep drive up to it.

While driving around this scenic valley please be aware that there are certain roads that farm vehicles are not permitted on, so keep an eye out for the following signs (venture beyond them at your own risk).

Some of the fields in this map will be difficult to harvest due to their steepness and/or unevenness. For example, when baling with the start equipment you will no doubt find yourself in a situation where the tractor cannot pull the working baler up the incline. There are a few ways of dealing with this type of problem:

• Bale or harvest across or down the field. Sometimes on a hill you may have to press "b" to cut the power from the baler to get the tractor moving again.

• Save up & invest in more powerful machinery. • If the above two methods fail you may have to earmark that particular field for Grass

Cutting, for Silage, etc., or Forestry use only.

Selling prices are considerably lower than on most maps, but baling hay will turn a profit, as I left Hay & Straw Bales prices as is. If anyone feels the prices are too tough, don't forget that Normal Mode doubles them.
