“ This is what the Lord asks of you: to act justly,

to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8

[verses from The Psalter © 1995, Archdiocese of Chicago: Liturgy Training Publications.]

From God is Healing, Forgiveness, Tenderness

and Mercy We have been created in the image and likeness of God and are called to be “God-like.” “The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to anger, and rich in compassion.” (Ps. 103) This is the ideal to which we are all to aspire. To become “rich in compassion,” we must first experience and sit in the compassionate love of God. When have you experienced God’s mercy and compassion in your life?

(adapted from Living Liturgy, 2020, pg. 213).

My soul, bless the Lord,

bless God’s holy name!

My soul, bless the Lord,

hold dear all God’s gifts!

Bless God, who forgives your sin

and heals every illness,

who snatches you from death and

enfolds you with tender care.

God will not accuse us long,

nor bring our sins to trial,

nor exact from us in kind

what our sins deserve.

As high as heaven above earth,

so great is God’s love for believers.

As far as east from west,

so God removes our sins.

Good Shepherd: is now back to normal Mass times; 4:30pm Mass on Saturday and 9:30am Mass Sunday with the restriction of 25% of the space capacity

COVID - 19 Updates:

Since we are being challenged to do things a little differently, Spotlight is going virtual! How will it work? A Zoom invitation will be sent out to parishioners with

emails. You can click on the invitation, download the Zoom app and be ready to go.

If we do not have your email, give us a call! If you do not have email, we will try to find another way to

share the event with you. Just give us a call! Join us for a “practice” zoom meeting on September 9 at

6:00pm. We will walk you through how to use this technology. If you need help getting on, give us a call!

On September 14, 2020, the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation will expire and it will be the responsibility of those who are capable and not prohibited by other circumstances to attend Sunday Mass.

There are circumstances where the obligation cannot be fulfilled.

One example is the impossibility to attend Mass [like during COVID when public Masses were not allowed].

If a person is ill, especially during this pandemic, they should remain at home.

Likewise, if a person is at risk because of age, underlying medical conditions or a compromised immune system, one would be excused from the obligation.

If a person is caring for a sick person, even if they are not sick, they would be excused from the obligation out of charity.

It is up to each individual to weigh their own circumstances through an examination of their conscience and determine, by use of their conscience, whether or not they are excused from the Sunday obligation. Remember, a well-formed conscience is upright and truthful.

A “google meet” adult offering presented by Dr. Dennis Sylva

The fundamental human drive is for closeness with God, others and our environment. As people await the results of the testing of vaccine candidates, many seek guidance on God’s acting through separations to bring about even greater degrees of closeness than previously experienced.

These online sessions begin on Thursday, September 10

th and are at

10:30am. Cost is $25. Checks should be made payable to St. John Vianney with “Bible Study” on the memo line. Contact the St. John Vianney Christian Formation office at 262-796-3944 to register and for more information.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP

The Lord is kind and merciful; slow to anger, and rich in compassion.

Pray for the grace to forgive.

Death Valley National Park is recording temperatures of 125 - 130 degrees. People hike in the Park for fun in extreme temperatures to test their endurance or to take trendy photos. Meanwhile, immigrants (20,785 in Adult Detention Centers and 222 in Family Resident Centers, August, 2020) crossed into the U.S. via the inhospitable terrain for survival. These amazing ministries are working

very hard and are even more important

and in need with the Covid-19 issue.

There’s a line on your stewardship letter

for each of these.

Milwaukee Careers Cooperative is a non-profit employment agency in Milwaukee connecting

employers with work-ready employees. MCC prescreens all job candidates and provides job training to

economically disadvantaged individuals before linking them to new job opportunities throughout

Southeastern Wisconsin. All Milwaukee Careers Cooperative job candidates have demonstrated

motivation and ability to complete a pre-employment training program. We provide temporary job

placement, temp-to-hire job placement (trial basis employment), and direct hire employment in the

Greater Milwaukee area. For more information, check out http://www.mccjobs.org/

Repairers of the Breach, located in Milwaukee's central city is a Greater Milwaukee daytime refuge

and resource center for homeless adults. Our daytime sanctuary is an empowering place where

homeless and at-risk men and women can get the resources they need to get back on track. Whether it

be food and clothing for the short-term, or education for the long-term, we are here to provide as many

resources as we can, and we proudly partner with many other programs to ensure

everyone gets the tools they need. Good Shepherd participates in a Brown Bag

Lunch four times a year at Repairers. Unfortunately, some of these Brown Bag

events are suspended due to Covid-19 concerns.

So donations particularly appreciated!

Capuchin Community Services ~ (St. Ben’s Community Meal Program and the House of Peace)

Inspired by the gospel of Jesus and the example of Francis of Assisi, the

Capuchin friars of the Province of Saint Joseph, together with our partners in

ministry, prayerfully build sister-brotherhood in the world. We attend simply

and directly to the spiritual and other basic human needs, especially those of

the poor and disenfranchised, promoting justice for all.
