HOMEWORK
AbraVocabra: A new word list every other week with a packet of activities due on Monday with a test that Thursday.
Grammar/Conventions: Mini Lessons taught in class with practice and sometimes homework.
Independent Reading (15 minutes at school and at least 20-30 minutes nightly – Total of at least 100 minutes a week at home)
Writer’s Notebook: Regular writing assignments to be completed at home.
Please check your student’s planner – we update it EVERY Tuesday in class. Work to be completed at home will have been introduced and discussed in class. Encourage students to contact another classmate if they have a question or need help.
Extra Help is Available
Library opens at 7:00 A.M.
After-School Study Club (Begins Oct. 2)
– Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:50 – 3:50 PM– Heatherwood Library
Lunch Recess in my classroom- I will invite students in as needed or they may ask for
help.
Standards-Based Grading
Formative = 30% of grade Summative = 70% of grade Student Progress

Unexcused Late Work Policy
Formative Assignments Work must be turned in on the day it is dueFormative work turned in late will earn a reduced scoreAfter 5 days, it is too late to earn credit (NF)
Summative Assignments Homework turned in late will still be eligible for full credit; however…
Any work turned in later than one week from its original due date will receive no credit
Conferences
Fall conferences are October 27 - 30Evening conferences on Wednesday, October 29All parents/guardians are invited to conference with their child’s Period 1 teacher
