Sept. 25 th at 7:30pm in the Choir Loft (All meetings held in the Vestry) unless otherwise stated) STEP BY STEP Some tasks are just too big to face all at once. Major projects like moving to another city, renovating your home, starting a totally new career can make us feel overwhelmed with all there is to be done. When we stare down that long road of detail after detail we’re sure it’ll never be finished. If our eyes stay focused on that daunting picture for too long we’ll succumb to despair and quit before we’re even started. How may dreams have we decided are impossible without even trying? Living a truly committed, spirit filled Christian life can feel a bit like that. How can we be sure not to stumble on the way? But what we forget is it’s not about the big picture. Jesus wants us to be faithful in the small things first. Those little do-able daily challenges. As Jesus teaches us in today’s gospel, when a servant is faithful in small things, they will be faithful in the greater things too. To prove ourselves ready for bigger tasks, we must choose God’s way instead of the world’s, in all the little decisions we make. Each small step of faith taking us closer to Him, closer to the true and trusted servant He knows we can be. UPDATE ON THE AMALGAMATION OF ALEXANDRIA-CORNWALL AND OTTAWA Within the next month, the Archdiocese of Ottawa and the Diocese of Alexandria- Cornwall will petition the Vatican to formalize the amalgamation of our two dioceses. The petition proposes that the two entities become one archdiocese and that the name of the new archdiocese be the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall. As new developments occur we will provide you with updates. In the meantime, we ask all the faithful to continue to pray for spiritual guidance as the two dioceses work through this process.

Sunday Morning Smile During a children’s sermon, the Children’s Liturgy leader asked the kids, "What is gray, has a bushy tail, and gathers nuts in the fall?" A little five-year-old fellow raised his hand. "I know the answer should be Jesus," he began, "but... it sounds like a squirrel to me."

THE EPICLESIS Following an introductory passage, the priest places his hands over the gifts and invokes the Holy Spirit, that by his power the gifts presented and offered will be consecrated and become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ for the salvation of all who partake in Holy Communion. During the epiclesis in Eucharistic Prayer II, the people hear the word “dewfall.” This word is found in the Old Testament. In Hosea (14.5-6) God promises to be like dew for the sake of Israel, bringing forth new life. In the Psalms, dew is a symbol of God’s blessing descending upon the Israelites. A prophecy from Isaiah (45.8) refers to the coming of the Messiah as a dewfall on the earth, since the Messiah will bring salvation and justice to a morally parched earth. The epiclesis, or invocation of the Holy Spirit, concludes with the priest making a sign of the cross over the gifts.
