    Teaching Moment:

What is a Monstrance? From the Latin “To Show”. A Monstrance is a sacred vessel in which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed to the faithful at Benediction and Exposition. It is usually gold, often decorated with precious stones with rays emanating from a glass in the center beneath which the Sacred Host is reserved.

    A Note from the Administrator...

Dear Friends, Last week our parish observed Stewardship Sunday. The virtue of stewardship has two parts:

You reflect every day that all you have and are --- all your time, talent and money --- comes from God.

You dedicate a set portion of your time, talent and money back to God every week as a gratitude offering.

Last week’s Ministry Fair was largely about offering time and talent to God. This week I’m speaking at all Masses about stewardship of money. Some think you shouldn’t talk about money in church, because it has nothing to do with God and spirituality. These people have not read the New Testament. In the Gospels Jesus talks about the good use of what we have … and the danger of greed … more than about any other single moral issue. Stinginess hampers spiri-tual growth, since we have it from Jesus himself that “the measure you measure with is measured back to you.” The bible is pretty straightforward about how much money you should be re-dedicating to God --- a tithe, which means 10%. Some Catholics I know actually do this. And to a person they report that “putting God first” in a matter as personal as finances produces bal-ance, wisdom, detachment and joy. (As a matter of fact, this has been my personal experience as well.) But many --- not through malice but through sheer lack of mindfulness --- pay off their “necessities” first; then if something’s left, God gets part of it. A believer con-siders honoring God with everything, including wealth, the first of all necessities. It has to do with loving God above all things. If you are a Catholic who doesn’t tithe (and remember, a tithe should include Church but can include a huge variety of other charities, including needy friends and relatives) … then this week is definitely a time to pon-der and make a concrete decision to take a very spe-cific step in that direction. It took me 6 years to work into a full-fledged tithe. But little steps each year will add up. Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike

Estimados Amigos: La semana pasada nuestra parroquia celebró el do-

Padre Mike
