I was one of these 45,000 Scouts that were picked to attend this year's National Jamboree, along with my friend Spencer Mikulski, who is also a member of Troop 2214 in Cape St. Claire. Since 2010 is the 100 th anniver- sary of Boy Scouts, the Jamboree was better than it has ever been. Every day there were shows at each camp's arena. There were daily activities such as canoe- ing, mountain boarding, BMX, obstacle courses, and much more. There were also special activities every day. The Jamboree is held at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, on over 40,000 acres of land. The Jam- boree is so big that it even has its own radio station where any Scout could go make a shout out to his family or troop, or request a song. There were mul- tiple kiosks for food and there where AT&T kiosks where a Scout could call home or use a computer. Everyone is required to wear an ID tag because all of the really fun activities require you to have one. All throughout the day you could see thousands of Scouts sitting on the side of the base roads trading patches. There were patches there that you could not believe! There were patches that glowed in the dark, patches that changed colors in the sun, patches with Marvel characters on them, patches from different countries, big patches, expensive patches, any patch you could think of. There was even a SOBE set of patches. Out of all the activities, patch trading was a favorite of mine. The fun continued when the sun went down with the arena show. Imagine the amount of people who attended Super Bowl 41, then add about 3,000, then sit them all on the ground in front of a giant stage. That is what the arena show was like! At the show there were great acts: The bands Honor Society and Switchfoot performed for us. President Obama delivered a recorded ad- dress to us, and earlier in the week Robert Gates, the Secretary of Defense, spoke to us. Rowe, the host of “Dirty Jobs,” was there and talked to us on stage, too. Mike grew up in Bal-timore and earned the rank of Eagle Scout! To top it all off, there was a fireworks display better than July 4th and New Year’s combined. That show made me realize how much fun it is being a Scout. I had so much fun at Jamboree that I strongly encourage all Boy Scouts (and Cub Scouts who will be Boy Scouts) to at-tend the next Jamboree in 2013 which will be at a brand new scouting camp in West Virginia. I hope all Scouts will be able to go to a Jamboree once in their life because for me, the 2010 National Scout Jamboree was the coolest thing I have ever done in Boy Scouts. On September 1, 2010 the Anne Arundel County Board of Educa-tion unanimously approved a 10 year lease with the Goshen Farm Preservation Society. For those who have been watching our pro-gress you know that this has been a four year process. Our first project will be to reno-vate the caretaker’s cottage. Building materials and volunteers will be needed. If you are inter-ested in helping us please contact us through our website Congratulations to Benjamin Hadden of Annapolis! Benja-min's winning raffle ticket was drawn on Saturday, July 10, at 4:30 PM, and he picked up his brand new Ascend Kayaks that same evening. Ben and his fam-ily live in the Atlantis community where there's plenty of water to enjoy the kayaks!

The Goshen Farm Preservation Society would like to thank all everyone who contributed to the fundraiser by purchasing raffle tickets. We would also like to thank Bass Pro Shops of Arundel

Mills for helping us procure the kayaks at a great price. We were able to raise over $1,600.00 toward the matching grant for the restoration of the property. The GFPS would also like to thank Gordon Pollock of GP Landscaping for the wonderful job that he and his crew did mowing the property around both the main house and the caretakers cottage. Thank you so much! We are gearing up for our An-nual Halloween Ball once again. Last year we had such wonderful support from our community in ticket sales and in Silent Auction donations. If you or your business would like to donate an item to our auction please contact us through our website. The Ball will be held on Friday, October 22nd at 7 pm at the Clubhouse.
