THANK YOU Our sincere thanks goes out to Lance Muhlenkamp,

Ryan Wellman, and Dale Evers, who cleared the trees

(approximately 75) from the Westside and the

Southside of the parish cemetery. This was a neces-

sary first step in the development of the site for our

expanded parish cemetery. Minimal or shallow grind-

ing of the stumps on the West side will be done, so

that any gravesites of stillborn and unbaptized in-

fants will not be disturbed, and the fence row will

become a "hallowed green space" that could include

a memorial to those buried in the fence row. The

trees on the South side of the cemetery were cleared

for the development of a drive to access the expand-

ed cemetery. The power company is slated to take

out the clump of trees near Rt. 67, due to potential

problems with high voltage wires, etc.

How Can You Help…? There are many people who volunteer their time

during Masses to serve, read, usher, distribute

communion, pray the rosary, and much more.

If you feel that you or your family may be

interested in participating during weekend

Masses in one of the ways listed above, please

call the Parish Secretary 997-6450 or email at

[email protected]. If you are currently serving the parish in one of

the manners listed above and need to request a

change in scheduling for the Fall (due to school,

etc.), please email or call the Parish Secretary

no later than Sunday, August 12th.

29 JULY 2018 3 SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The Musings of Our Pastor Perplexing problems, just like weeds, tend to crop up in our lives and can be such a source of frustration because effective or quick solutions for those problems may not be easily attained. We know this to be true from personal experience! We had such a perplexing problem here at Holy Trinity Parish this summer, but it seems the problem has finally been resolved. (I sure-ly hope that is the case anyway!) The problem required us to "dig deeper" for solutions and to put our heads, as well as our collective knowledge and experience together before a "fix" was found with the expenditure of much more time, energy and resources. Some months ago, excavation work was completed to install a new drainage system around the school building because of the prolonged water problems being experienced in the basement classrooms and storage area of the building. This was viewed as a critical first step that would enable us to upgrade the basement classrooms and make them more suitable for use with the Religious Education Classes or other parish activities. When the excavation work was completed, surges of great delight were experienced because the floors in the basement along the exterior walls were wonderfully dry and free of water seepage, with the exception of one small area in the basement classroom just below West entrance to the parish hall. Did we miss something? Was the problem simply water and moisture leaching out of the walls? We took a "wait, observe and see" approach to the problem. To our befuddlement, the small area of moisture never did dry up complete after several month. By the same token, even after some extremely heavy rains or frequent rains, the small area of moisture just never got any bigger or any worse. The floor would be mopped, but the moisture returned in the exact same place and in the exact kind of for-mation on the floor. GADS! What a perplexing problem! Enough observation and waiting! It is time for action and a resolu-tion to the problem! On Friday, July 6th, we did, in fact, put our heads together and opted literally to dig a little deeper near the West entrance to the Parish Hall. Coming up "dry", so to speak, in the quest for some plausible explanation to the problem, small traces of moisture were finally detected along the foundation of the building after scratching away mud and other obstructions. It was decided to take a bold step of aggressively drilling a hole in the wall just above the foundation. Before long, a voice was heard to say: "Look at the water coming out of that hole!" The water gushed out fairly steadily for several minutes from the hole and finally trickled to a stop. There is still a great deal of puzzlement as to how the water got inside of that space and trapped to such an extent that it only seeped out ever-so-gradually and in such a small area of the basement classroom. That mystery, quite honestly, may never be solved. However, a small drainage pipe was shoved into the site of the problem, the floor in the basement classroom has remained dry ever since, and the excavation work was completed with some degree of relief and satisfaction! At least for this day, all the work was not merely a "wild goose chase" or wasted effort! Perplexing problems are often not easily solved, which means we need patience; we may need the wisdom and counsel of others; we may need to be creative and resourceful by thinking "outside of the box" or by exploring different and untested and new possibilities; and we may even need to risk the possibility of failure and disappointment. Perplexing problems, though, can be valuable "fodder" for personal growth and maturity in everyday life, as well as in the moral and spiritual life. Perplexing problems may, in fact, be a humble reminder that we just simply cannot fix everything or resolve every problem that is encoun-tered over the long haul of life. These are moments, when we can turn to the Lord God beseeching his timely graces of strength, persistence, and trust as we carry the cross of our perplexing problems, and seek, to the best of our ability, to display virtuous behavior in all that we say or do amidst the ongoing difficulties in life. There are occasions, thank goodness, when God surprises us with the particular graces or resources to resolve lingering and frustrating problems, when we are not even looking for specific solutions! Our God is an awesome and wonderful God, full of wisdom and love! Should you ever need some measure of prayer support, especially in light of some perplexing problems, do not hesitate to ask. God bless you.
